EDIT: I have not tried this on Windows RT 8.1 since this video was created BEFORE that came out, so I don't know if it will work. Some users have said in the comments that it may not work so keep that in mind.
Here is a video on how to jailbreak Windows RT. This jailbreak allows unsigned ARM Desktop apps. Enjoy.
NOTE: This jailbreak DOES NOT allow all Desktop x86 apps to run (e.g: Firefox, Chrome, Photoshop, Minecraft). This only allows open-source apps that have been recompiled for ARM or apps that are natively written in .NET Framework 4.x.
In this video I demonstrate this on a 32GB Surface RT. However, this can be done on ANY Windows RT device, so it isn't just locked to the Surface.

This jailbreak won't work when using WinRT8.1. It seems to be very difficult after the 8.1-update.

If you guys are having issues downloading symbols do this: Create a folder inside the 'bin' folder of the extracted jailbreak named 'sym' Extract the attached zip into the bin\sym folder

when i run the jailbreak on bootup it runs ok but when i try to install the wscrack32 the installer.exe file it will not install from run as administrator so i can get free software from the microsoft store. Can you someone help me thank you.

Dhiraj K. Shah Charge it, hold volume down button then press power button,(Yes press it don't hold it) let go of volume once Surface logo shows up, then tap Troubleshoot > Reset your PC. You're welcome :P

well I realised too late that I will have to keep RT 8.0 to do a jailbreak, I'd like to ask you if I can switch my tablet back to 8.0 from 8.1 , because just by resetting the device using "delete everything and install windows again" it doesn't work. It automatically sets the tablet to 8.1 . Help me please!

I don't think so. I think there is a jailbreak for 8.1 though. This tutorial is old and I've since upgraded my Surface to 8.1. If I find anything I'll probably remake the video using RT 8.1

***** thanks for your help. I found a way it could possibly work setting the tablet back to 8.0 .. I read on a site where people described an error to microsoft and then microsoft offered them a recovery version of hopefully 8.0. Then I can install that by starting the tablet with "volume down" and "power" using the recovery on a USB-Stick. If that won't work and microsoft is cheating on me and giving me 8.1 with that update, I'm going to take the old 8.0 version from a friends tablet and do a recovery with his data :P
