Where there's a will, there's a way. And jailbreak enthusiasts came up with a creative way to circumvent security restrictions on the Switch back in 2018. Best Homebrew apps: • Best HOMEBREW APPS - F...
Fun fact I'm pretty sure the DS had a game with a VULNERABILITY that allowed users to jailbreak their device. I don't remember which one it was but that company probably made bank that day. edit 7/7/24: CUBIC NINJA SWEEP RAAAAH
@@FredDoesStuff0423 There was one that was a game card with a micro-sd slot in it which allowed for gba and ds roms. I have one. I'll go check what it's called.
@@Brain_pocketer Not if we find another boot rom exploit or bug then a new switch will be released and keep doing it until Nintendo gives up or adds a way to detect hacked nintendo switches and even then people will find a way to bypass it if a bit of technology exists, someone will find a way to jailbreak it.
I’m gonna jailbreak my old PSP 3001 on Sunday when the new battery and charger get delivered I recently found my old psp from my elementary school days in the early 2000s 😝😝
I modded all my psp's my vita's a beast all emulators and can play any vita game for free. My switch was patch but I would mod it if one becomes available
psp wasnt this complicated even during its infancy of hacking, even when they invented the pandora battery that not only hacks but said to be able to unbrick a psp which was common during the original psp hacking experiments p.s hacking all the psps and vita i can tell you psp3000 is the biggest money grabbed ever, looks exactly like a psp 2000, also i heard psp-e was made, lazy sony…
Me in 2019 looking to buy a switch: I better make sure it’s the new battery life version. Me in 2022 getting interested in emulation and watching videos about jail breaking: dammit!
I'm tempted to get the OLED switch so I can transfer my current Switch profile to it, then homebrew my original Switch for emulators and other apps. Nintendo just isn't doing it for me at the moment when it comes to their older games. The state they released OoT in should make them ashamed, and still no Gameboy titles on the Switch as of yet either. This console deserves so much more.
I still have an original realease date switch, and I have chosen to not jail break it. But in the future I have the same plans as you. I will most likely purchase another model probably the OLED version, and turn my older one into a homebrew machine.
@@Schnort There's no shortage of people willing to pay through the nose for a remastered Metroid Prime Trilogy. And despite all the rumors, nothing has come of it yet. It's like they hate profits or something. Idk.
i truly love my modded switch themes, stream ps4/5 to switch to play games portable, retroarch - emulation, android etc the list can go on. i paired it with a battery pack which give me extra 10 hours of battery and has a similar kickstand as the oled.
6:22 Funny part here is: Kate submitted a bootrom bug for up to a $200k bounty without consent from the person who found it. And that's a massive breach of trust.
Yes, I can believe that that word is in a dictionary. It is fairly common among anyone who is a bit tech savvy. Language evolves, and dictionaries should evolve along with it. This should also include words which are so commonly misused and misspelled that people need to consult a dictionary to know the "right" way. For instance the word "theory" which has a common meaning and a scientific meaning. In common use it's more of a hunch or something based on headcanon. But scientifically it refers to a thoroughly tested and proven concept. So yeah, "jailbreak" should definitely be in a dictionary
Are you able to flip back and forth between the homebrew interface and the original stock operating system? If so, will your system be detectable if you go online?
Yes you can boot into either a. Your sysnand aka your basic switch, b. Your syscfw aka your basic switch but with modding capabilities, or c. Your emummc which is like a separate switch where you should do your modding stuff and bannable stuff. If you want to go online on emummc for whatever reason, you will need to setup 90dns which blocks Nintendo servers so Nintendo doesn’t detect your switch
I got my switch before the lite and new chip came out so I probably have one of the ones you can do this with, but I would never do it, I would love for Nintendo to make an update for something we can download to watch films on, without having to watch them on youtube if you have bought them, I would just like to put in an SD card of films I have already downloaded and watch them, that's the only thing am missing from the switch or to watch Disney plus. If they could add them two things I would love my switch even more than I already do lol.
"even to this day nintendo haven't been able to do anything about it" shows a list that says "all versions" claiming it can be done on any switch closes the video saying that it's not been possible for 5 years seems legit
Just to clarify, you should not use the paperclip or tinfoil methods to do this, sure it works, but you risk scratching the connectors and possibly cause them to stop working right; it can damage the connectors in the rails, always use a jig, they are design to be less damaging to the connectors.
@@alt.egoistic tbh, any jig works, just get one with up to 4 stars, i got a black one and a red one from two diff shops and they both work fine. Also they are cheap anyways, worth it for how much it would cost to replace your switch XD
@@Duckyy. you *do* have much to lose. if you fry your vulnerable unit that's it. it's gone. if you send it to nintendo for repairs they'll realize it's not patched and send back a patched one.
You're soft-spoken voice and warm lighting make for a nice escape from all the annoying content out there right now even from some of my favorite creators , you're the perfect example of not needing to over do your showmanship in order to get your point across while being entertaining.
Too much of anything sucks. I wouldn't want to only watch soft-spoken people every time I watch a RU-vid video, you're just bias because you don't watch soft-spoken people often so it's a breath of fresh air so to speak when you DO run into one. My comment isn't to take away anything from Rewire because I like him, it's moreso me defending other RU-vidrs from potentially unfair judgement because they don't present their content is a super calm soft-spoken way.
Heck, I don't even finish the games. Sometimes, I enjoy the process of jailbreaking more than actually playing the games. Make some themes, customize and file transfer lol.
Cool tip if you don't want to connect to the internet with your jail broken switch. You can use a second switch by buying one or use your friends switch to send you game updates via Bluetooth. Nintendo Switch has this amazing feature that let you use Bluetooth to share a game update to another switch so you guys can be on the same game version without connecting to the internet and it's used for Lan parties but great for a modded switch as well.
@@myria2834 its very difficult to accidentally run homebrew on the clean boot, since nothing is installed on that one, you would have to deliberately modify the clean system instead of the emulated one
I had a possibly patched switch it was patched after checking I got one in nice deal along with extra brand new extra set of joycons which itself is close to 6500 inr or 80 dollars with full set of unpatched switch in unused condition for about 20k inr ( 250 dollars ) feeling so nice didnt have to buy those expensive switch games now I believe in future the unpatched switch price will rise exponentially unless a soft modding exploit arrives for v2 or the chip for modding switch clone comes and its sold super cheap
One of the hardest nintendo devices to mod… Not because it’s hard to do, but because all nintendo consoles previously only needed an sd card, this one needs a paper clip as well as an sd card.
It took much longer to crack some of the consoles like the 3DS and by the time it was done, the hackers have full knowledge of the system architecture and security. This major bug came early in the Switch's lifecycle which is more damaging. I'm sure the hackers are still exploring the Switch to this day.
Find it funny that this is not the first time that you could jailbreak a Nintendo console by pinching or touching something on the system with a simple tool. The wii could run custom code by touching 2 pins with something simple like tweezers
Too bad we can't install Linux and Android on Mariko powered devices... I don't really like v1 Switch, it gets quite hot and has terrible battery life. Even with thermal mod (removing copper shim between Tegra chip and heatsink + reapplying thermal paste). But the fact it can be jailbroken like that makes it golden.
So thats why my switch overheats and slips out of my hand I have a v2 as my main and the fan doesnt turn on half of the time because its so cool and the v1 gets burning for no reason
If you still use a paperclip as a jig, be careful not to allow pin 4 to touch any other pin. Pin 4 supplies 5 volts of power to the joycons, which if it touches any other pin, reroutes the power to the console and basically fries the hardware.
There's ALWAYS a way around their security measures. But those ways are way more technical and time consuming and most ways involve equipment that most people have never even heard of others require building of new circuits and gadgets on the spot but TRUST me when I say there Is ALWAYS a way around it. 😉
Their devices securities are not even strong the fact that Yuzu (Switch emulator) was first released literally less than year after the Switch came out is insane.
ahhhh yes, stopping people from using their devices the way they see fit after paying hundreds of dollars is completely legitimate, that's why I can't install anything I want my pc
Funnily enough, the paperclip wasn’t the jailbreak… in fact, it still will make the console enter recovery mode to this day. The exploit was INSIDE the recovery mode, and was called fusée gelée… so it’s not as basic as it sounds (although it is just a classic buffer overflow exploit with some extra stuff, so I guess you can technically call it simple) What I’m trying to say is that the title of the video is kinda misleading
This was the first time I’ve ever watched one of your videos and I actually found it quite chilled and calming compared to over tech channels. It was a nice break. Keep up the nice videos
Actually had a vulnerable switch since 2017 and used it alot but only hacked it a month ago. There is no going back and I regret how much money I wasted lol
What annoys me is that you buy the device thinking it's your property to find out it's still the property of ________. How I see it. I buy the electronics. It's MY property and I choose what to do with it.
Thanks for your video. Bought a used switch recently which has been manufactured in 2018 and thus doesn't have the Tegra X1 plus chip (It's the Pokemon Edition). On ismyswitchpatched however, it still says that it is patched and doesn't support jailbreaking. Can you explain to me why?
Hey - thanks, glad you enjoy the vid! I think those consoles are unpatched so Im not sure why it says it is. You'll have to give it a go and let us know!
@@rewire7899 it has got the serial number XAJ70058153XXX but on the back side, it says HAC-001 indicating the old version. From other sources I've read, it also says that the Switches with the serial number starting with XAJ7005 are patched. That confuses me as it's definitely the OG switch version without improved battery and it's from 2018.
just got an oled switch with a beautiful screen, can not wait until someone discovery a way to bypass nintendo's security and give us freedom to install whatever we want. right now, all i can do beside playing games is watching youtube. youtube looks great on it but i want more.
Oh boy! Saw a video installing a working chip for oled BUT it is insanely difficult. Hint: it involves removing one of the onboard chips, soldering the mod to it & hoping you didn't fook it up putting it back together 🙀
