Super late to the game but you imagine the reactions between jak daxter samos Gol snd mya after meeting again hundreds of years later? What a fantastic plot.

speaking about the sages 2:36 ever since Jak 2 and onward the three sages(blue,red,and yellow)have never been mentioned ever again or brought up again by any of the characters,since Jak 2 I've always wondered what happened to them,we know that samos is from the future and he would have been born years after these sages,do you think they could have been killed by the metal heads?

Gol becomes the metal head leader after hundreds of years of exposure. They even fall into the dark eco in a METAL HEAD

I'd love to see them come back, also for the story, it would be interesting if they both play the villain for like half of the story but then one of them (the one that went less crazy from dark eco) seeing that jak has some sort of connection to light eco, might turn good to save the other one from going completely nuts and self destruction, and work together with jak to try and go back to normal, after all that time imprisoned, they might just wish for a normal life again, and after the end of the conflict, they'd try to reveal secrets of dark eco that could be used for genetics like healing with mutation, like giving a new limb to a person instead of having to have a mechanical one, and also studying white eco with jak, they could balance dark eco and introduce eco back to the world like it was in jak 1 but this time with better tech to study it and use it too. This would give them a good ending and also leave plenty of room for other games if they make money with jak 4 and want to continue the story from there.

I believe they're not only alive but also got out long ago, sometime after Jak & the gang went to the future at the end of Jak 1, AND are the ones responsible for the mysterious Dark Eco facilities found all over The Brink during Lost Frontier...

What is hilarious is that Gol & Maia had no idea that precursor dna is apparently contained in Dark Eco. Because like Jak & Daxter find out, Daxter thought he was cursed, when he was actually blessed. Maia had said to Daxter, "just wait little one, you think short & fuzzy was bad" which to me, proves that Gol & Maia were obviously still ignorant as to how Dark Eco works completely. I agree that Dark Eco effects everyone differently & that it also effects everyone who was already touched by it differently.

I'm not sure if I have already said this but your intro and outro are beautiful. And Daxter was blessed by the Precursors when he fell in the dark eco pool so maybe dark eco doesn't behave that differently after all (meaning that if the Precursors didn't interfere he would probably have been destroyed or something). But Gol and Maia however were already exposed to it for some time and perhaps with only a little exposure at a time until they got more used to it. I would be very interested to see what kind of powers they have.

I believe it's possible Gol and Maia have something to do with the Dark Makers, they seem to share an agenda - remaking the world using dark eco. Perhaps Gol became a master by studying with them? Let's not forget they were also in possession of the Rift Gate that set the Metalheads loose. I'm intrigued to know your thoughts on this.

Jak 1 was in the past. Future jak from the past saved the day in Jak 2 but younger jak was sent to past to defeat gol and maya. Only to befriend an old samos but was watched by a younger samos in the future...... WTF ???🤦🏽‍♂️⚡️

The way Samos acts in the ending of Jak and Daxter TPL made it seem like there could of been a small chance of them surviving with how much doubt was in his voice. I get Naughty Dog wanting to go another direction but I really wish they didn't walk out on this series and just let it collect dust. I get the reasoning, but I sincerely feel has a life long fan of the trilogy, Jak 4 at this point wouldn't be the true spiritual successor needed for this game, lore wise or energy/vibe wise. Such a shame cause the lore hits on a very deep level

Maybe since they were in the catacombs they stumbled upon the precursors, before haven city was even started. Then they became dark otssel precursors and created the Dark Makers. Like the one seen in Jak 3

Jak 4 should probably be set in the Metal Head war, before Jak 2 and after Jak 1. I theories that the Metal Heads when first invading from the rift needed Dark Eco to grow and get stronger as it is obviously needed in their development to take over the humans. So that would mean they were too weak to destroy the villages completely and would fly to the closest sources of Dark Eco, most of which are silos which they probably covered in eggs. So chances are, if they were alive, they were somewhat freed when their dark eco silo was opened and then probably killed. But if you were to make a Jak 4 in the time period I referring to you’d have Mar vs Metal Heads and maybe one of the twins survived and helped the Metal Head first assault, becoming the first story arc or second arc boss. Since Jak is Mar names after the family of Mar who were related to Mar from the House of Mar. He could easily be played as Mar fighting along side his great great grandparents in the 300 years of war against the metal heads (only 200 because mar disappeared). So yeah, that’d be interesting

I'm pretty sure sages can't die of old age. They all appear to be old and Samos was old even in his own timeline well until they switched places so thats kind of out there. However it appears being a sage can be passed down from person to person. As it was passed down onto Kiera as well. Since Gol and Mia are dark eco sages my guess is that they could survive the effects of dark eco as they can control it. The whole sages thing is rather mysterious as they are never really mentioned again until Lost Frontier where a successor Dark Eco sage was revealed, as well as Keira who appears to be a universal sage judging from the fact that she can work with every type of eco. The Precusors mysteriously can not control Dark Eco, attempting changes them. Plus it is unknown who is the sage of Light Eco. But it is known to reverse the effects of Dark Eco.

its a good theory buuuut you miss something. in jak 1 they find the time travel engine thing. in jak2 they travel into the past where the very young jak/mar and samos were. in the end if jak2 jak sends young samos and mar to the future so jak 1 will play again like he is in a time paradox. but the older jak stays in haven city and jak 3 appears so isnt the gol and maia return theory actually nonsense? i really want to know your opinion to it

Maybe the Sages are immortal I mean sure Samos is the only Sage in Haven City and it’s the future of Sandover Village but the Sages would’ve still been immortal Mar isn’t immortal because he’s not channeled by Eco So their still alive but not in Sandover Village

I'd love for their return, maybe even tying them to the creation of the Metal Heads (always thought the monsters they make at the end of Jak & Daxter moved like a metal head) but along with them, I'd want the main villain to be Krew's daughter (forget her name at the moment) to wrap up that loose end from Jak X. Uncharted got a 4th game (and it was amazing) cmon naughty dog, give us ONE more Jak! :D

Gee, I only played Jax and Daxter only once in my life. I only admired Ratchet and Clank, Rayman and Sly games, because those are the games I've played frequently When I was very little.

Naughty Dog will never go back to Jak because they want to make serious cinematic adventures not make fun games to play with. So as a result Jak will prolly not see the light of day anytime soon which is unfortunate

I just watched a bunch of your videos, and i'm amazed and delighted to see that there's a J&D community alive after all those years. I would have a lot to say but it's 3am where i'm from. So in short, the most recuring thing: You always mention the lost frontier and people always call you out for it; i can understand both them being pissed off and you wanting to cover possibilities of people calling you out for not being thorough. I propose you just put a disclaimer, saying the lost frontier was not develloped by ND and is not cannon, and thus it will be completely disregarded. That way you're covered again every possible kind of nagging.

The only possible way I can see if Naughty Dog or another developer are going to continue this franchise is to bring back Gol and Maya. That way they can bring back old fans from the series and also new ones. And if they do that they should really try to bring the light tone from the first game combined with the dark one from Jak 2, kinda like Jak X because the story was serious, dark and humorous when it had to be without having issues with the story having too comedy or seriousness.

I always felt like Gol and Maia were never really explored in J+DTPL. It was like, they were just the bad guys and the levels were more important. "Oh they just experimented on Dark eco" is not enough lore for me. The other 4 safes obviously knew about dark eco and it's dangers and yet they just let Gol and Maia just have fun with it. I always felt like there should have been lore books in the citadel that note what they had found on their expirments. Thoughts and diaries that showed them descend into this dark corrupt way even finding out WHY they wanted to plunge the land into darkness using the dark eco silos.

Idea: Gol died in that time and drove Maia even more insane. She blames Jak for it and contacts the dark makers resulting in a full invasion.

Honestly, if Jak 4 ever does happen, I think the idea of Gol and Maia returning in the way you suggest should only be like, half the game’s story with the other half featuring the Dark Makers making one last desperate push to take over the planet now that the Precursors are gone. Perhaps, after Jak opened up the catacombs and Gol and Maia have escaped and started to reek havoc across the globe, the Dark Makers have one last large scale invasion, using Gol and Maia as another diversion to send in scouts to the planet (which we will get hints of through the use of reports of meteors). Basically, during the first half of the game, the mission and story is more light hearted, similar to the first Jak and Daxter game although with the necessary edginess from Jak 2 onwards to fit within the current world. Although I do believe the main enemy types during this section of the game would be Metal Heads and some brainwashed Lurkers (to cause some tension between Jak and Bruter). But as the battle between Gol and Maia draws nearer, a few stray Dark Makers will get caught up in the fray. After a mid game boss fight with a Dark Maker scout drone, Jak brings up the appearances of Dark Makers, but everybody just assumes it’s just remnants of the Dark Maker’s forces from before (except for Seam, whom believes that the Dark Makers are returning with a vengeance and might be using Gol and Maia as a distraction but Jak is the only one to believe them). After a few missions in the second half of the game’s story, Jak is battling Gol and Maia, and just when you think the battle is over, some kind of Dark Maker Scout appears and either kills both Gol and Maia, kills one of them and injures the other or injures them both (if injured for one or both of them, this sparks an uneasy truce between Jak and his oldest foes). The later half of the game is basically Jak working with all his allies (and Gol and Maia if they are still alive), trying desperately to stop the large scale invasion (imagine a fleet of Dark Makers, larger than they thought possible), only to fail initially. Maybe, after some time, Samos (and Gol) suggest finding any Eco Sages (new ones, because like you say, the originals are likely dead) that could be around. The final parts of the game is similar to the original in that Jak is travelling to different locations around the world and is trying to the find the Sages. After a while, Jak and Daxter return with the new lot of Eco Sages for the fight. The big boss battle at the end could have Jak protecting the different Eco Sages instead of fighting the final boss himself. Throughout the fight, the Sages could all be doing damage to whatever the head Dark Maker is, slowly chipping away at its health bar. In the end, after what I would hope to be a highly stressful boss battle, they defeat the head Dark Maker, but they discover there was a cost, seeing Gol, and/or Maia, and/or Samos lying down on the ground, dying from exerting too much of their power to take out the Dark Maker. Before they can mourn, Jak is attacked by a weakened Dark Maker leader and is separated from the Sages. There is a second stage to the battle which involves Jak fighting the Dark Maker leader one on one, no Daxter, no Sages, no guns, just Light and Dark Eco at his disposal and his fists. After this battle, the final task of the story could be that Jak has to escape the Dark Maker mother ship as it explodes using nothing but his platforming skills. After this, the story could end with a final send off for them, all pretty much settling down to not worry about Dark Makers or Metal Heads or Dark Eco ever again. This is just me, but I personally feel like this would be a nice Jak 4 and finale for the series. Of course, everybody is going to have a different opinion on how Jak 4 should go if it ever gets made and this is mine. Of course, a few changes to story beats or new ones should be added to what I suggested if this is a similar enough story to what Jak 4 would be. Hell, for all we know, since Jak X is part of the main canon, characters from that one could show up to help Jak, maybe give him weapons/armour/vehicle upgrades.

I've personally given up hope on a Jak 4 just so when it does come out I'll be that much more excited. Right know I just want to know what's going to be done with the ratchet and clank series next.

By this time, Gol and Maia probably mastered dark eco by now, if they do come back, most likely they'll prove a real challenge for Jak.

Always though about it, especially with the Jak 1 lines of Samos saying "Hm yes they probably dead, hmm yes probably" clearly showing they not Could be amazing to see Jak 4 still in the same world with haven city etc but also mixing time travel and space Like Gol and Maia taking over Haven City, being unstoppable because of their perfect control of Dark Eco, even by Jak, that should travel in time and space to find Gol and Maia weakness or find a weapon/knowledge to stop them Why is there no Jak 4 :( so many lore, the story could be easily made

They were exposed to dark eco to much already wouldn't they get destroyed if they came into contact with any more and in spider caves crystallized dark eco exploded when touched they could have been destroyed but as you said dark eco is unpredictable who knows what could have happened to them

It would be cool to see Gol & Maia return to go to revive Mar using Dark Eco like a Lazarus Pit to create “Dark Mar” to battle Jak & Daxter, then Jak has to try to find a way to use Light or White Eco to defeat and cure Mar who leads a new DarkMaker Army against Haven & Spargus

Hello, a day days ago I wrote a journal blog regarding this topic here it is: 12/25/20 Lately, I was playing Jak and Daxter: The precursor legacy. For some reason, I have become interested in Gol and especially Maia, the “villains” of the game studied dark eco, which somehow transformed them not for the good. Prior to their transformation, Gol and Maia were known to be nice people. I once watched a video about possible return in the postponed game, Jak 4. I believe they both are redeemable, meaning they can be changed back to their original state and be the nice, sweet people they once were. I would like to witness their redemption as well as their back story.

I think Jak 4 is all about young Jak and he fights Gol and Maia again, like the first Jak and Daxter, but with new skills, locations and maybe with new eco. And after he defeats Gol and Maia, young Jak starts to build Haven City as Mar.

the official guide also mentions white eco can mutate things on page 38 if we had a jak 4 would this also have been a potential plot point.

It would be cool that game reaches Full circle so that you defeat Bosses from first game once and for all. I would also Like to see some time traveling Like in second game, so that you go back and forth in time in order to solve some mission etc. And also asembly of New order of sages, deepened lore about echo, maybe a good dark echo sage to replace Evil gol and Something more about Light echo. And i Hope that they reduce mistake from jak 3, that they balance content with actual gameplay

You can argue that it takes place where JakX combat racing takes place. But the back of the jak and daxter lost frontier truly said where the previous trilogy left off. You can argue that the precursors just got lazy on it and than they just give up on finishing the planet but my question is about that is why ain't jak back in the waste land where it truly ended at. And how come Samos are not in the game.

It would be cool to see them again they were my favourite villains in the series! Also, Gol and Maia were dark eco sages if i remember correctly? They could have controlled the eco somehow to save themselves? :O

The idea that Gol & Mia would have returned in Jak 4 (if it ever came out) relies heavily on the idea that the dark eco kept them alive, and so far, all the evidence we've seen shows it either kills you or mutates you. Unless their previous exposure gave them an unnaturally long life, they'd be dead at this point. Even if they were granted such longevity, they'd still need some form of protection from the dark eco in the silo, so either the robot head needs to be "eco-tight" (probably not the case seeing as it was damaged in battle), or Gol would have needed to be able to crystalize the eco onto the robot head VERY rapidly to seal it up. Even then, oxygen, food, and water would still be a necessity. But let's imagine for a moment that their previous exposure removed their need for food, water, and oxygen. By the events of Jak 2, either Baron Praxis or Kor would have found the dark eco silo and drained it for the eco grid or whatever the metalheads use it for, thus freeing Gol and Mia (assuming they could survive the dark eco crystal explosion or find a way to cut through the robot head's metal shell). The only evidence that either of them is particularly powerful is that they were able to capture the other 3 sages, but those were presumably 2-on-1 battles, and nothing shows that any of the sages have any combat ability. Everything else they accomplished in Precursor Legacy was thanks to the lurkers and ancient Precursor technology. My guess is that the Baron's forces found them after draining the silo, captured them, and then tortured them for information on controlling dark eco before either killing them or using them as test subjects for the dark eco super soldier experiments.

Gol and Maya would gave been better villains for Jak 3, instead of Erol. It would have made sense for them, Sages of Dark Eco to side with the Dark Makers.

I like to think that Dark Eco working differently might also be affected by its present forms. Like with Daxter turning into his dark mutant/'Otselhulk'form, the eco was mostly in liquid form, except at the final one transformation. Jak got experimented with 'energy-form' variant, and the environmental hazard one, that also turned Daxter, seems to be some sort of "Raw/'Unrefined'-form". Just tossing these thoughts in for the theories.

I do hope they return. After Veger opened the catacombs and Errol's demise, they could in fact be the new leaders of the dark makers and acting as the primary antagonists. Their goal is to engulf the world in dark eco to make it more beautiful. Rayn and the new leader of the metalheads (they'll never go away) could act as the secondary antagonists. Rayn wants to seize control and the new metalhead leader wants to revive their previous leader Kor through time travel shenanigans which could pose a bigger treat in the endgame...

Precursor buildings and artifacts last and work for seemingly eons, unless there was some massive seismic occurance I doubt the silo would be going anywhere. What I feel is more likely that they along with many locations were connected to the core in some way instead of being simply made for storage. Jak was slowly exposed to Dark Eco over couple of years and trough his connection to the Precursors was given control over various powers and abilities, Gol and Maia (having no connection to the Precursors themselves) may not have exhibitied said powers and abilities but having been exposed and studied Dark Eco for a better part of their lives most likely left them with knowledge and understanding that would easily help them survive even direct contact. However as you said the results from this are nothing if not unpredictable so their survival could hinge on them either gaining total control over it to somehow simply being preserved in it, be it as some freakish abominations or Dark Eco popsicles. Interesting little factoid I had not heard about before and would have been an interesting thing to add to the trilogy.

Nope, not for jak 4... in an interview with someone that worked on the lost frontier he told that the sky pirates and the world running out of eco was a Naughty Dog's idea, so i don't think they were supposed to make a return... What i think is that they were intended to come back for the third game, but since it is super rushed they didn't have the time to develop it and they scrapped (is it a word in english) this idea

May be cool if the Gol and Maia episode lies somewhere on the timeline of the original mar 🧐🧐
