Jakarta gives me a South Korean vibe city, wide roads, buildings are not too close to each other. And Manila is kinda have New York and Chicago vibes to me, buildings are close to each other with mix of classic and modern style buildings, trully well planned city especialy BGC,Makati, Ortigas,Aseana,Rockwell, and Eastwood city

It is amazing to see other asian country improving, I’m from japan and I’ve been to Philippine before for a travel and I can say that BGC has a bit similarity to my country, the infrastructure and the buildings are amazing the difference is that the Philippine building is more of a wide type of building not so many tall buildings but horizontal buildings and i like that there are so many trees in the street, i also remember that one tree that is like a cherry blossom but the flower is red, i saw it in Philippine before. I want travel again to Philippine but pandemic 😷
maybe what you saw was the Bougainvillea tree. Yes, it's like cherry blossoms too. It's very common during summers. It also has other colors like purple, yellow and pink.
Jakarta's buildings are glassy and modern while the buildings of Metro Manila are mixed, from brutalist, classical to modern. Jakarta's buildings are spread out.. though there are few CBD's emerging while in Metro Manila, its buildings are dense and situated in CBDs. Jakarta for me, feels like Dubai. Wide roads and avenues with skyscrapers side by side while Manila feels like a typical American City...like New York or Chicago. In terms of Infrastructure, Jakarta wins in this field, while Manila has yet to finish their major infrastructure projects. Talking about the historic districts of both cities, I can say Manila is stunning. Lot of colonial buildings with different architectural styles. They even have a walls with fortifications still standing. And a World Heritage Site Structure inside the Walled City. Jakarta however don't have many Colonial buildings present but old Batavia is impressive as well. The square is beautiful together with white washed Dutch Colonial Architecture. Anyway, both cities are unique.
@Amanda Hoyal it depends on how Colonial powers handle their colonies. As for the Philippines, Spain did introduced their culture, tradition, language, and religion to the islands at much extent than any other Western Powers in Southeast Asia, and Filipinos slowly embraced it through time. Filipinos would be more like a Latin American country if Spanish was still used as the lingua franca of the islands. (There are still a million of documents written in Spanish are yet to be told to the Filipinos). After the end of the Spanish rule for more than 300 years, the Americans did introduced liberty, widespread education (though the Spaniards did it first), modern infrastructure and of course entertainment. Since Filipinos are mostly Christians and are proud of it, still speaks Spanish loan words in their daily conversation, still adapts Spanish inspired menus on their food, still adorn the Filipino-Spanish Architecture and the civic Architecture of the US that dotted throughout the islands, still speaks English though badly needed today, embracing American culture, entertainment, and way of life, I can see the past colonization did a good mark on colonial era. But of course, the oppression, slavery, massacres, and exploitation will be still on the back of their heads. As for Indonesia, I don't have a lot of knowledge on their history, but I can say Dutch influence to the archipelago were minimal compared to the Philippines. Dutch atrocities and oppression was rampant. I can see why most Indonesians hated their colonial history. I want to know their history coming from Indonesian friends here.
@Amanda Hoyal Well, it was different for the Philippines because the Philippines as a country did not exist before it was colonized. So simply, we could say if the Philippines was not colonized, there would be no Philippines today.
@@JC0820 you are wrong. Clearly you have no idea about the Philippines pre colonial history. Philippines is one of the center of trade in SEA during those times.

Mabuhay from the Philippines. Excited to visit Jakarta soon after our short stay in Bali. I've been to Bali once and will visit it again. We plan to spend a few days in Jakarta as I haven't been to the capital of Indonesia yet. Jakarta looks like a vibrant city. Also excited to try Indonesian cuisine other than Balinese food that I love very much.

It's nice to see that the Indonesian economy is growing to be one of the leading in the world and the Philippines is slowly gaining back it's economy. These brother countries are surely to watch out for. Cheers from the 🇵🇭
Manila is the New York of south east asia. Hands down. Looks expensive and world class, congrats to the Filipino magnates for making Manila a better and develop city.

Check back in 5 more years...Metro Manila will be more Modern than as it is now. Two Subway lines under Construction plus more MRT's and major Transportation network of Rail lines........Including a new Multi Billion dollar Airport.
Yeah maybe, but Jakarta will be more developed too, MRT phase 2 and 3, LRT that connects Greater Jakarta area, more integrated transportation system, high-speed train, more highrise buildings, Jakarta International Stadium, parks and many more

Yes, Manila (and Metro Manila) has a lot of firsts. First Chinatown, the oldest university, the first LRT metro line in SE Asia, and others prove that it was ahead of its neighbors before. Despite that, the transportation system in other SE Asian cities like Jakarta, KL, or Bangkok are now much better. I hope we can also improve on that part.

Correction : 'Jakarta' comes from the word 'Jayakarta' ,Jaya = victory ;Karta = Town ,named by prince Fatahillah of Demak (Central Java) after he defeated the Sunda Kingdom in 22 June 1527 ......
According to Atty.Karen Hudes a former World Bank lawyer, The Philippines had a million metric tons of gold that need to be used for the welfare of the Filipino people.
Among ASEAN countries Indonesia and Philippines are the closest not only geographically but also in looks and treatment, We rise as one and we progress as ONE Mabuhay Indonesia !
The wider motorways part you got right. But in terms of being more organized I’ll have to disagree. Jakarta looks more of an urban sprawl while Metro Manila’s business districts appear zoned in a multi nucleic model. So I guess from above Manila would look more organized but on the ground Jakarta would because of better road and railway infrastructure

The area of Jakarta is 2x that of Singapore and has many buildings but not close together, while the Philippines also has many buildings close together and has vibes like New York. Big cities in Indonesia are not only Jakarta, there are still many provincial capitals in Indonesia which have big cities and different atmospheres, Surabaya is the second largest city after Jakarta and has an atmosphere like Japan, because it has tabebuya trees like cherry blossoms, Then there is the city of Batam which has an atmosphere like big cities in Europe, there is the city of Jayapura which has a beautiful city and blends with Green Nature, And the most surprising thing in Southeast Asia, Indonesia is the only tropical country that has snow in Papua Province, the peak of Jayawijaya,, And there are many more big cities in Indonesia, not to mention independent city projects, modern cities, Indonesia is a big country in ASEAN, Greetings from Indonesia, the Philippines is also so beautiful, May ASEAN progress🥰

Where's Manila, QC, Pasay, Paranaque, Muntinlupa, and San Juan's skyline? Most parts shown are only from Taguig, Makati, Pasig and Mandaluyong... It could be better if the whole stretch of greater Manila's skyline is showcased to give the viewers the awesome scenic beauty of our capital. 😁
Jakarta is more photogenic. But Manila has its charms too. Filipino Tourism is just so naive about what to glorify. Because 97.98% of these people working for the tourism department know nothing about tourism culture or theories. Jakarta has one thing that kicked Manila’s ass, An Iconic National Monument. Philippines and Indonesia both had Iconic Dictators, but Philippines replaced their strong man with a house wife turned president. Indonesia’s Mighthy Tower is the symbol of that dictatorship. Malaysia had the Mengara Tower to represent Mahathir Mohammad’s reign. Suharto had his own Tower of Pride. What Philippines have is Pinoy Pride in the internet. The centennial tower of the Philippines is a sad joke standing shorter than Micheal Jordan in Rizal Park, which once became the sleeping grounds of homeless people. Manila is beautiful. But if you only spend 3 days in both cities, Jakarta kicks ass.
I guess I didn't see much of these when I went to Indonesia last 2016. Are these cities near the airport? After landing, we went straight to Lippo Karawaci opposite that nice university and stayed in a hotel opposite a Lippo village mall. We didn't explore the city for we only went there for work. My impression was it was like Manila and I really like that area in Tangerang. It was so peaceful and clean. I hope I'll have an opportunity to travel there again someday.
