For Variety's "Actors on Actors," Jake Gyllenhaal and Margot Robbie sat down to talk about playing real-life people, separating fame from their personal lives, and more. bit.ly/VarietySubscribe / variety / variety / variety
FemBot Totally agree, he should have had a few Oscars by now......Jarhead, Brokeback mountain, Nightcrawler, Southpaw, End of Watch, Enemy and Stronger. And his whole filmography is so interesting and he puts himself into the role fully. Jake is definetly THE most underrated actor in this generation!
One could even say one of the best actors in general. The fact that he's under 40 only makes it more amazing how much he has accomplished with his extensive history and already a household name.
PietreADI well, jake is also eye candy and the reason I clicked on the video. I have no clue what movies they are talking about, I thought it was the same one, lol
They both could have chemistry with a doorknob. When you've got it, you've got it, and they both have it. Great actors, should do better projects, but they're getting there.
What the heck does Jake Gyllenhaal have to do to get an Oscar? No golden globe or SAG nom, he is pretty much already shut out of the awards race and I don't know why. His work in the past 4-5 years deserves at least 2-3 Oscars (Nightcrawler, Southpaw, Prisoners, Enemy, End of watch, Nocturnal animals and now Stronger)
Some of those films came out in really ultra competitive years. I am totally onboard by the way, I rate him SO MUCH and I honestly believe he deserves an Oscar as recognition of his superb acting. Nightcrawler saw him up against Leo for the Revenant (winner), Bryan Cranston for Trumbo, Matt Damon for The Martian, Michael Fassbender for Steve Jobs, and Eddie Redmayne for The Danish Girl - that’s a tough crowd and a top set of films. I might have had him in ahead of Cranston, because I personally dug Gyllenhaal’s Nightcrawler more, but I get it. Similarly with Southpaw, he was up against Redmayne again this time for The Theory of Everything (winner), Carrell for Foxcatcher, Cooper for American Sniper, Cumberbatch for the Imitation Game, and Michael Keaton for Birdman (that film won best picture), so again, tough crowd. I love the films you mentioned, and I also adored so many others of his. He is one of the best of this generation. He will ultimately win one, but likely not one he properly deserves it for - its a quirk of the system. Leo won for a movie I felt was nowhere near his best. He deserved an Oscar, just not for the Revenant. Same might happen to Jake.
jake is asking really good questions and I like the way he talks about portraying his role. You can see how much he loves his job and how much he works to embody his character. that's why he is my favorite actor.
Daz......... I have, and raging bull is good, a close second behind rocky..... I just found southpaw VERY VERY good! Reminded me or Rocky 3, with the type of character arc.
I actually dont have a favorite actor, its not plural, mix bag, if I had to choose, it had to be Christian Bale, but logically I know its DDL, best actress I would say Amy Adam's on top of my head.
Or that therapist you have an inappropriate crush on so you don't know whether to do the ethical thing and get a new therapist or if it's best to ignore the crush in order to keep the incredible therapy.
He seemed so genuinely interested in what Margot was saying, it's so freaking endearing. He's incredibly talented, super nice, very likable and quirky & I just cannot deal with how adorable and good looking he is. Whoever ends up with him will quite possibly be the luckiest woman on earth.
@@PitbullSubs Just to help, in psichology, what you have done is called a projection. Do yourself a favour and don't put your own thoughts on other people's behaviors.
@@gaila.9852 I didn't have negative opinion on her I only thought she was kind of nothing more than "beautiful poster cover girl" but I didn't suppose she is so brilliant actress
Can we talk about what Jake has to say about the mirror for actors? That's incredibly profound and deep. When an actor is looking into a mirror in a scene, they have to face themselves as they are truly are and who they are portraying all at the same time. The mirror is the place where the actor has to act his or her best.
The only pretentious actor that I know is Will Smith who nominate himself as the biggest movie star in the world. No other actor that I know ever said that.
Jared never claimed to be the best or the greatest at anything. Actually, he is quite humble and often says that he uses method acting because he is not a naturally gifted actor. On the other hand, Will Smith claims the title of the biggest movie star in the world. I know that his wife works as a PR person for Will Smith and it is she who gets the criticism when she is defending her husband's interests as was the boycott of the Oscars and this is because Will Smith doesn't have the guts to put himself on the line. For someone who says that life is lived on the edge, I guess he prefers to put his wife all alone on the edge.
I feel Jake does not like talking about his personal life in a serious manner. When Margot asks a deep personal question he swings it over to how he thinks his character feels.
PietreADI that seems a little like a self reflection of you just viewing her as eye candy... she is a fantastic actress and started her own production company too.
You don't have to carry a film in order to be a good actor. She was the main reason people went to see Suicide Squad (the movie sucks but she was great in it). She has done a great job this year with Goodbye Christopher Robbin too.
2 minutes and 30 seconds. Start of the most important acting advice I've ever heard in the 26 years of me trying to make my living as an actor. Hearts.
Hey, if you're trying to make it as an actor, will you please tell me how's it going because I'm also aiming for that career and want to know the reality of it.
I love Jake but he never had great love chemistry with any of the co-actresses he worked with. Look at Ryan Gosling he has great chemistry with almost every women.
I agree, although I think he had some “love” chemistry with Anne Hathaway, just by watching interviews on “Love and Other Drugs” you can perceive it a little bit
I'm so excited to see where Margot's career is going. She's been fantastic in 'Legend of Tarzan', 'Focus', 'Wolf of Wall Street' and 'Z for Zachariah'. I can't wait to see her in 'I, Tonya' and 'Mary, Queen of Scotts'. I'm really fascinated by her talent, down-to-earth personality and beauty.
kshamwhizzle Margot was brilliant in the WWS & actually deserved a best supporting actress nomination for the role as people had no clue she was Australian as her Brooklyn accent & mannerisms were spot on as the character of Naomi. It was such a pity she was unknown actress at the time because she’d definitely would’ve receive one if the movie had been released now instead of 4 years ago.
I love Jake for doing movies that aren't necessarily "safe" movies. he could be one of those actors who plays Batman or something and does those movies that Hollywood keeps pumping out and are just "passable" but instead he does movies like Donnie Darko or Jarhead or Brokeback Mountain where the topics and characters are ones you haven't seen before.
That's am..azing 😍 of you dar..ling 💕 fannnnn. You fanssss always kept my heart 💓 gladdened with all your mind blowing comments and supports..... May your days be long and God surely will bless you heavily... Where are you watching FROM?
Ryan Parker I have nothing against her. She’s just isn’t anywhere NEAR Leo’s level. She’s just standard to me. But she seems like she has great potential and could change over the course of her career
Both actors are so respectful in this interview. The conversation between the 2 of them felt balanced; one didn’t monopolize more time than the other. Both were very considerate of the one another. Refreshing.
Thanks 😊 fannnnn, your feedback 😇 is really amazing and I must let you know that I'm blessed to have devoted fan like you in my small world 🌎 what a great pleasure to meet you!! Where are you watching FROM ❤️❤️?
Liked this vid right after you showed the clip in "I, Tonya" that they were talking about. I feel like most channels would not have put that in there so thank you.
Thanks 😊 fannnnn, your feedback 😇 is really amazing and I must let you know that I'm blessed to have devoted fan like you in my small world 🌎 what a great pleasure to meet you!! Where are you watching FROM ❤️❤️?
Two of my favorites in one interview, this is legit one of the most pleasing and interesting interviews I’ve ever watched. Margot and Jake are such amazing actors!
Thanks 😊 fannnnn, your feedback 😇 is really amazing.... and I must let you know that I'm blessed to have devoted fan like you in my small world 🌎 what a great pleasure to meet you!! Where are you watching FROM ❤️❤️?
This movie really encouraged me when I was homeless about 6 months. I stayed busy....collecting tin cans. Another day, another $1.50....LOL..Jake Gyllenhaal what a gem of a person.
Oh my, this is one of my favorite interviews of Actors on Actors. They both are incredibly talented actors and even more incredibly amazing human beings.
Thanks 😊 fannnnn, your feedback 😇 is really amazing and I must let you know that I'm blessed to have devoted fan like you in my small world 🌎 what a great pleasure to meet you!! Where are you watching FROM ❤️❤️?
I love Jakes eloquence and accommodating presence in this interview and how he leads Margot into it, he knows how to hold and carry the conversation about the movie and being actor in general. You can feel and hear the experience and generosity in his tone.
Thanks so much fan.. Your feedback is so amazing 😍 and really, I must say I appreciate all your unending support and sincerity towards my art life. May your days be longggg and God bless you... Where are you watching FROM?
I’ve always enjoyed how flexible a person Jake is and it’s played perfectly through his roles. You hear/see the enthusiasm actors have after working with him. When he speaks it just brings a cloud of comfort that can make you joke and think productively. What a human, especially to be paired with Margot for this episode who is just as well spoken and admirably honest.
Thanks so much darling fan.. Your feedback is so amazing 😍 and really, I must say I appreciate all your unending support and sincerity towards my art life. And I promise to get in touch with you as long you are ready to be communicative in my world 🌎 artttt. But I don't know what you think about it! Please 🥺 stay safe! May your days be longggg and God bless you... Where are you watching FROM.....?
These two really really feel comfortable with each other, made me feel the time of this interview was too short and it will be great of having them acting in a same movie
Thanks 😊 fannnnn, your feedback 😇 is really amazing and I must let you know that I'm blessed to have devoted fan like you in my small world 🌎 what a great pleasure to meet you!! Where are you watching FROM ❤️❤️?
Jarhead is a movie that I’ll keep going back to throughout my life it is that damn good. He is that damn good. I saw it first when I was like 13 and I’m 27 now and can’t wait to see it at 57
Going into this thinking how would it be to leave two actors to their leisure and how the two egos would mesh or try and overpower one another but what a humble dude wow usually people are so quick to talk about themselves and Jake took on the role of interviewer and it is so refreshing jesus how can you not adore this man.
Thanks so much darling fan.. Your feedback is so amazing 😍 and really, I must say I appreciate all your unending support and sincerity towards my art life. May your days be longggg and God bless you... Where are you watching FROM?
Whomever is responsible of pairings these actors up in these series deserves a raise or some kind of award/recognition. Absolute genius. They are all so entertaining yet with depth and all actors truly compliment each other feels like the audience is part of the conversation ❤️
Thanks so much darling fan.. Your feedback is so amazing 😍 and really, I must say I appreciate all your unending support and sincerity towards my art life. May your days be longggg and God bless you... Where are you watching FROM?
This is such a cool thing. Actors are interviewed all the time and it's rare that they get to truly discuss the craft of what they do, let alone with one another instead of with an interviewer who can't really relate and are waiting to get to the next question.
these 2 have immense chemistry...wonder if they could channel that into a movie...would love to see it..Jake for me is right up there and Margot is proving herself to be one of the top female talents of our generation too
