Even if they weren't, he has only exposed a obvious problem with aged athletes. Take a serious 21 year old training for a couple of years vs a retired Olympian that has all sorts of problems and go at them in a very specific style that they were never "great" at..... All of a sudden it becomes an actual serious event. Most people cant comprehend because they don't realize that different styles of competing mean very different outcomes. Your favorite retired 400m runner could get smoked by a 40 yard dash sprinter out of college...This is nothing new.
