I spent most of the 90s bombing hills in S.F. Always saw Jake around... Later in mid-2000s I was living in Prague CZ and at my local skatepark. I knew there was an international contest on the other side of town, but whatever... Shit, Jake shows up. He didn't remember my name, but remembered me from S.F. and was tripping a bit that I lived there... Total original. There will never be another. RIP. Now go grind a curb! *A.
Met this dude once at king of the roads tour Colombia Missouri. Never met anyone in my life as cool as this cat! Dudes a fuckin legend that always brought the hype. Sad to see him go. Thrash on brotha!
Well, he was a jerk sometimes, and when he was alive, and that was all people noticed about him. But now that he's gone everyone is recognizing the crazy things and good times he had in his life and how cool of a guy he was

he had easy access to heavy pain killers due to all of his surgeries. pills were the only way to stay on the board, stay doing the shit he loved, as he used to feel lots of pain ridin sometimes. they (family and close friends) didn't publish nothing about the cause of death, but i believe it was probably related.

I think you are right. He had kind of a destructive personality. With more money from the growing skateboarding industry, he probably bought a shitload of hard drugs that he would brag about doing the next day. I would see him back in the day in SF at the shop or local SF skate spots and I knew he was a shit talker so I would just not say anything to him.
