Artist: "and it's really where hardcore punk was all it had been but outta left field now, for me anyway, in the sense that it made me grab my titties and blow kisses at the mirror rather than punch it." General Goon Reaction: DUDE...SNOB MUCH???
A lot of opinionated idiots in the comment section. All three guys from HEALTH are each incredibly talented artists and awesome humans. Fuck those haters.
I've read several books on psychology, and my observation is that they look sleepy because they're up early-morning shopping mid-tour. John actually looks more sleepy than Jake, so I theorize that his hat somehow drew aggro away from the others.
It's been well documented that people who wear hats are insecure about their musical tastes and project that onto other people. They surround themselves with hat none-wearers to shift focus from themselves into a new paradigm.
I have to say thank you to Jake because you talked about Composer William Basinski. I looked up his music and I bought his Album The Disintegration Loops IV. It's a deep experience now I have to go find more music by William Basinski.
The armchair analysis of that footage by some was pretty funny ngl. We had a good laugh about it in the band's discord. I've met at least Johnny from HEALTH before for any notable length of time, and I know many that have met all of the boys. They are always the chillest dudes from everything I've ever heard lmao, and if they seem remotely distant or w/e, it's cos they're busy or tired, as musicians on the road will often be. Great quote at the end, too. Let a man be tired and maybe just a bit introverted, for god's sake
XD This is awesome. I saw the comments for that video also and wondered if I was missing something, because the only real vibe I got was "Okay, we're here. Let's talk music." I also suspected these were filmed in the early morning, as there usually isn't anyone else in the store.
Same! As someone who loves ambient and heard about disintegration loops years ago but never looked into it this recommendation made me deep dive into his discography. What a revelation!
My introvert friends and I have the same mannerisms. Whenever we spiel we kind of lend the ear up more than the eyes. We rarely look eye to eye, especially at cons because we geek out
if it were me doing a video like that i'd have been the exact same way my first thought towards the silence was that each member just shut the hell up and let the other guys talk when it was their turn, it seemed respectful more than anything else
Each to their own. Never heard of your band before the clip. I appreciated that you were all perfectly human, chose some interesting albums, and provided context to choices. The commentary from the internet parallels the dystopian nightmare we're living through. Give them the weight they deserve.
I have met health 3 different times in very natural settings. they were always cool as fuck and friendly. in 2007?08? I was rly drunk at their show and dancing everywhere and I got kicked out. but it wasnt them that kicked me out, it was the bar staff.
The episode was so great. I'm quite big on electronic/ambient soundscapes but never properly checked out Basinski before, but the way you described it sold it to me and I listened to TDL for about 3 hours later on that day. So cheers for that
this is the funniest fucking shit ever. just because HEALTH are just a bunch of chill dudes suddenly means they hate each other now?? and also the hate towards jake is just not necessary like wtf...though it is kinda funny that john and BJ didn't get any comments about them lol (love you three
This is funny. Jake had the best pick. The Natural Born Killers OST is very important to musical growth as a young teen and was my introduction to Lenard Cohen.
no, no, no, no one of my good friends had a meet up with ya'll after winning a contest, ya'll had a spa/manicure style hangout, and she said ya'll were the kindest and most humble dudes and it was really chill and a really great memory for her. people are projecting. ya'll's WIMB ep i thought was really cool and ya'll seemed like genuine dudes!
The comments were totally exaggerated (seriously did they conclude that by watching the video?) and the albums chosen by Jake were my favorites. Crass, Coltrane, Basinski... pure genius
Buddy… why are people allowed to comment without experience? I genuinely don’t get it. Health has legit stayed together longer than most of the bands I listened to along side them. I hate people 🤦🏽♂️
I genuinely believe anyone who uses the “you must be fun at parties” argument was dropped on their head as an infant, because they’re clearly not all there.
I was laughing my ass off reading through those comments on that video and I felt like most of them were in jest. Don’t take it to heart either way the interwebs are a cesspool of untalented homebodies and you guys are doing great work.
Don't listen to the haters, Jake! I'm right there with you in your pics! I guess judging by this video, if I talked about music I like and went into it, the internets would think I'm a pretentious twat! (full disclosure, I ran two record store for 14 years so, there's gonna be the deep cuts 😂) I love you guys, your musical acumen spans so many genres and it's awesome. I'm very happy to hear about the albums you guys love collectively. Makes sense, given your badass sound!!
I feel like this is the third or fourth time the comments under a What's In My Bag have been like that - "You can see the tension like its another band member", "This group isn't long for this world", "How long til these guys have a fight on stage?" And so far, they haven't been right once 😂😂😂
But the short guy is just so cool tho. Just saw the Vancouver show and my goddd I’ve been revived Jake ur face card when u sing gives me all the feels omg
I mean, goddamn, everyone they worked with on Disco4 I've at least given a shot, if not found new favorite bands. I want more DIsco4's just so I can get introduced to ever more cool artists :D
@@hypermagical_ultraomnipotence When DISCO5 rolls around it's probably gonna be another collabs album, back during the DISCO4 press cycle the boys said the reason it was collabs instead of remixes is because the remix culture that gave us HEALTH//DISCO, DISCO2, and DISCO3 isn't really as much of a thing in modern music as it once was
Love it 😂 this reaction vid made me laugh. I just watched Amoeba vid after this…these people in this Amoeba comments you’re reading are being silly. I’m gonna check out that tape disintegration loops v4, never heard of it and love the music clips they played from it.
I get the sense some of the commenters showcased won't associate/collaborate with people unless they're exact clones of themselves LOL Enjoyed this response, keep being rad artists :))
Gawd. I just watched that video and I really don’t know how those bums interpreted all that. Maybe they should look inward, and if they want to see people being happy, maybe they should try being happy themselves.🎉
Damn, I just read exhaustion. I was in a coma last year, diagnosed with cancer this year, and exhaustion and life shit, it just fucks with you. I would expect touring creates a different form of exhaustion, but still brutal nonetheless. Hell, life fucks with you. They seemed like decent guys back in 2022 when I met them, and I honestly just wish them the best.
Thanks for the highlights. I'll be sure to avoid that Amoeba video. But why is this band named after a barely released 1980 Robert Altman film with Carol Burnett and Glenda Jackson?
Bro you guys all had amazing takes on record picks and turned me on to a bunch of your influences even before this video. I text Johnny every now and then. You are honestly the best band out there right now, and this isn't even hyperbole. When you showed off an album by Coltrane it probably broke their minds. It's a sin to be rich.. but it's a low-down shame to be poor, am I right?
lmao to be fair you did legit look pretty uninterested, to the point that when i saw this thumbnail i was like "i think i know what this is about" never did i think it meant trouble in the band or some shit, tho lol
My favourite hippie band. "Rat Wars" had a great anti-war statement behind it, - I loved it. Really hope the next album will be called "Love Magic". Peace, brothers! ✌️
Probably also a fault of no direction or blocking on the set -- they're asking one member at a time what they got, so I would figure that the camera would be on them and not the other two the whole time, instead of including the wide 3-member shot. If it was important to have the others do reaction shots, director/producer should've said so! Jake probably felt at the time that he was "off the clock" and could think about other actually-important things. As to judging his picks and opinions, people need to remember that "hating what other people like" isn't a substitute for having your own compelling personality.
