It never occured to me that since this happened on Pandora, it would be the humans that are the real aliens. In which case, from the perspective of the Na'vi, they are defending against an alien invasion.

A small detail that’s a nice touch; the more intense the speech gets the more the three flick their tails back and forth. The Na’vi both use their tails for both balance and to express emotion, and details like that really help with immersion, and the feeling that these are real people, not just computer generated aliens.

Today 500 indigenous tribes and countless species are being threatened by the intentional destruction of the of one of the most important ecosystems on earth,the Amazon rain forest, for monetary gain. This movie and this speech is more truth than fiction.

As a Native American this scene always gives me chills... this reminds me of the Battle of Little Bighorn

Its very important to note ,, Avatar places Humans in the mirror in the role of the invading "aliens" by symbolic example The Na'vi people hold a very different "lens" or way of "seeing" aka a different "perspective of realty", they are talking about ancestral lands ,, Physical Land ownership to them is as "alien" a concept as one going out buying the sun and stars and claiming that you now own them. Talk to any native elder and they will laugh at the concept of even the suggestion of physical land ownership, to them the land owns us not the other way around , Throughout history its been a common tactic for global leaders to slap a label on those who "see" differently and label "them" as lower life forms then "Us". (the fly bitten savages who live in a tree) I suggest people take a look at roots of our own source code the two key documents that define "who" is recognized as "We the people" . They both have "exclusion clauses", as to who "will be recognized" and "who" can own land . in source refection to roots of our own very real world demonstrated history , Avatar does a very good job of holding up the mirror and asking "Us" to take an inward look at the seeds of our own refection. This remains one of the best movie speeches I've ever heard. It's powerful, vigorous, and invokes courage and determination in all its listeners. Those writers knew what they were doing.

The story may not have aged well but the visuals have aged beautifully! The first time I saw this amazing movie was when I was almost 17 ten years ago in my sophomore year of high school. I’ll be 27 next month! The sequels have a lot to live up to. And I hope they are worth the long delay.

They don't talk about this speech though. This speech that resonates with indigenous, natives, black, and brown people everywhere and their eternal battle for THEIR right to life, liberty, and justice...their right to exist.
