Liked Bad News, despite the fact he was a heel for most of the time I got to watch him. Never knew that he wrestled for Stampede or a Canadian promotion in general. Makes sense though, seeing as New York is closer to Canada. Plus the Canadian promotions were always good about giving everyone a chance at a title run, politics and other foolishness never seemed like part of Canadian promotions business model.
Loved Bad News Brown! His tweener status toward heels, his finisher, his promos, and his feud with Hogan. It felt like he was undefeated before that rivalry
From what I've heard he was the "original Stone Cold".. a full heel but didn't took any crap from other heels, and was more happy to kick other heels butts than team with them..
@@radioVHS149Yes! He was the blueprint for 1997 Steve Austin. The crowd was electric at Survivor Series 89 when he squared up with Bossman, and he could’ve been huge if WWF just leaned into that like they did with Austin
I live in Calgary. Around 85-86 I worked at a car-wash on McLeod. Christmas eve day, Bad News drove up in a big car. He gave me a tip of $20! That's like getting $75 today. Not only a generous tip but bragging rights for almost 40 years! Lol.
Up here in Canada we had seen him in Calgary for many many years. He had a lot of great matches against the Harts… right up to Owen… as well as dynamite, and Davy… in the last great stampede era he was in and out of the territory along with such Greats as Pillman, thunder lager, Owen, Benoit, hiro hase, and many others!! Great times. Bad news Allen was usually a heel, but also had a nice face run when he turned on the bad guy faction… the fans were happy bc even as a heel, everyone respected Allen as a legit tough guy who didn’t need to cheat like the other bad guys.
Bad News Brown seems genuinely like a decent person in his shoot interviews. Props to him for calling out André’ . What Andre did to Big John Studd was pathetic… Much Respect Allen ✝✅
Vince told everyone he was going to make them champ. It was part of his big sell to get them on board. I’ve heard it so much many times in shoot interviews.
Bret Hart thinking he'd put a Prime Ultimate Warrior or Prime Hulk Hogan in the Sharpshooter and winning by submission are the most ridiculous stories.
I work in an industry (production music) that has the same guarantee of empty promises as pro-wrestling, and have made it my policy to IMMEDIATELY have everything promised put into writing and inspected by my attorney, and then signed. It's similar to how good fences make good neighbors...
Bad News as the WWF champ would have been good for business. He really played the heel well, and of course his interviews were fantastic. A truly talented guy who should have been utilized more.
Bad News was a solid grappler all due to his Judo background and he would have been a solid Intercontinental Champion and have rivalries with the likes of Beefcake, Warrior among other wrestlers.
Bad News should have had a title run of some sort. Great worker, good on the mic, and he was over. Really too bad that he didn't get that opportunity. Same thing with JYD.
@@joeyravage4798 , he did? I had no idea that he was the only wrestler who had a drug problem. Because Hulk, and the other top stars of the company never did drugs. It's a tired excuse.
Hi, Jake. My name is David Thomas. I owned a promotion here in Calgary with Allen, Hybrid Wrestling Coalition or HWC from 2002 to just before his death in 2006. I can tell you, for shoot, that News loved the shit out of you. he said you were light as a feather and a joy to work with. He loved every minute of it. As for the belt, Vince would have given it to Allen. and Hogan was good with it and supported it. The problem was that Vince wanted Allen to work face and be , as News put it, a f*****g Uncle Tom.
It's weird hearing that Bret spoke highly of working with Bad News seeing as he had trashed Bret in interviews and claimed that he gave him two concussions. The love certainly doesn't seem to have gone both ways.
Knowing what I know now about the situation it would be hard for me to see Bad News as the World Champ, yes Vince might have talked about it but he never made guarantees to anyone, Bad News was big and legit tough but he was 45 when he entered the WWF, his age and knees alone would have kept him from carrying the company flag
Bad News was capable of carrying that belt. This was Bad News a couple years after WWF against a 350 lbs. and much younger Gary Albright. He certainly wasn't moving like a bug on his back in any of his UWFi shoot matches. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-WVK_AjYWM3A.html
Its beyond Strange how so many wrestlers didnt seem to SPEAK backstage and try to go out of their way to help each other because in the end its good for Business if everyone isn't hurt.
That's because there was only so much room in the Spotlight, and those in it were more focused on protecting their spot because that's where the Money was. I'm not helping you if doing so jeopardizes my paychecks. And yeah, some of that was encouraged by the promoters, they didn't want the boys working together like that, next thing you know they'd be Unionizing, and no boss wants to hear that word.
As much as I liked Bad News Brown, it's silly to think that he deserved a title run. It's also strange, considering he said in interviews he didn't care about winning and losing, it was always about putting money in his pocket.
Specifically he threatened Jake with 10 sewer rats, and that many rats could do some serious damage to a snake even as big as Damien if not kill it. The numbers game.
@@thecowboy3217 Well, if we're gonna make it fair then Jake sould respond with 10 python snakes (each rat - each snake) and everything is still back to the initial truth: snakes eat rats!
Love Bad News but I can't picture him as champ, not for a long run for sure. And its not his skin color either,he wasn't slick enough, not on the Mic or the mat . But he was a real badass dude.
Brown a much better choice than Booker T. Much more humble. When Bad News challenged Andre back then, so what. Even a Prime Andre would be destroyed by Lightweight Males MMA in UFC/MMA caliber these days Always the old adage The Bigger they are....
Bad News was fairly old, had mediocre matches and wasn't overly charismatic. No belt. There were several other guys more deserving that did not win one.
Bret actually ripped Bad News a new one in his book. He blames him for killing the Calgary territory by not following instructions. He also said Bad News absolutely refused to sell. He described Bad News as aloof but not a bad guy when you got to know him.
I loved Bad News Brown but I don't really see him a a top guy for a company. He was a great heel but a long run with the title? Eh, don't know about that. He should have gotten something. The IC title or something.
BNB was the type of wrestler that worked better as the challenger. If he became WWF champ he would have failed to connect to the fans and the reign would have been short, or he would have connected with the fans and would have to water down his heel act which would have killed off any appeal he had. And that wouldnt have happened because during that era Vince wasnt going to push a tweener as champion, it took nearly another ten years for that to happen with Austin and that decision was born from desperation. When BNB was in the WWF business was great so why change fron everything that works? Maybe Vince did tell BNB he'd make him champion with a long run but Vince was telling a lot of guys a lot of things that never came to pass
