The selection of this character to be made into figure form is pure gold. I would love for Jakks to do Tikal next regarding new characters as she would complete the main cast for Sonic Adventure and Sonic Adventure 2 Battle (Multiplayer mode). Zavok, Wave and Storm would also be great additions to the line.

The main center part of the head seems way too small and weirdly squished. It's like they messed up the head shape last minute to save more box space.. Also kind of an odd choice to give him fist hands and not like one outstretched/open one considering every shot of him when he's in this form in heroes he's doing some kinda gesture. I'm glad they finally sculpted the lines in on a 4inch metal sonic torso, though there seem to be slightly too many here looking at the actual fmv model and the appearances in other games. Should just be Metal's torso vent but a bit wider at the front than usual.

Nah, I don't think it's a prototype, I think it's just because Neo's model is REALLY complicated for a Sonic figure so some of it was hard to adapt to a figure, though I think they did really well.

This is a really cool figure, but the head size makes me hesitant to pick it up. I do wonder how he looks next to the 2.5" figures. I'm not sure if Neo Metal is supposed to be bigger than Sonic and the others, but the size of his head here definitely matches better with them.

Am I the only one who is bothered by that pointy part on the neo's back? It's very ugly, it looks like a mosquito. I keep imagining the neo trying to lie down with his. In idw the neo back does not have this pointy part. And I must say that this is much better

though hard to spot, he did always have it. we don't get a good look at his back in heroes, but you can spot it in a few frames, and the shadow casted on the gray background in one of his renders. the idw artists probably didn't get a reference sheet of the character or notice that subtle detail. it's also visible in the speed simulator model. it was definitely jarring to see for the first time, so i absolutely get what you mean.
