From 1976 to 1993, JAM created all of the station jingles for BBC Radio 1. They were heard by millions of listeners across the UK. Here is some JAM home-video taken during one of the vocal sessions for the 1984 package. The vocals, as well as the music tracks, were recorded at our previous studio on Insurance Lane in Dallas, Texas. Representing Radio 1 is Johnny Beerling, who pretends to have a thick cockney accent when asked about the singers' British pronunciation skills.

It’s a treat to see the people behind the voices. These jingles are the crème de la crème. They sounded superb, especially when Radio 1 went to FM in the late 80s. I can still remember lyrics to some of them to this day and I’m now 55…. Send a Request We Can Play on the Air From Cardiff, Belfast, to Glasgow Square…. The Best Sound in Britain. Sadly, there is nothing this good on the radio today. When Heart Radio introduced its 80s service did they spend a penny on a retro jingle package ... No. Thankfully online station Solid Gold Gem AM has a JAM package and I can tell you they still sound as good today as they did decades ago.

This package is still fondly remembered by us here in the UK. This composite sounded brilliant on the air. Bruce, Mike,Chris and Johnny really give those vocals "maximum power" as well (spot the link?) And see if you can spot the reference to another BBC JAM package by Johnny Beerling towards the end of the clip...😃 RIP Chris and Dan.....

The 1970s jingles were absolute dope when heard on BBC Radio 1 and 2. Total classics that everyone from that era remembers fondly today.

Dan Alexander also did the main voicing for the PAMS pirate Radio London jingles, back in the 1960s - including the Sonovox.

I think this is the Denver KIMN package that was adapted for Radio 1. Is that correct?

"Rockin' the UK" comes from The Flame Thrower (Z100) package, "Ask for a song and we'll play it for you/the best sound in Britain..." originally came from The Best Show for KIMN in Denver. "England, Scotland, Ireland, Wales" was a custom cut for Radio 1, later being released as a jingle for New York's WPLJ/Power 95.

MCI JH-600 series. This console was on it's side in my garage about five years ago before I sold iy to a guy in Minnesota.

Doesn't all jingles coming from JAM have a characteristic sound, making it hard for them to sell it as an unique identity for all stations? I mean, it's not very strong on identity when it sounds just like the jingle package that went out the door for another station the day before this. Jingle studios should instead try to leave a defined sound and be diverse.
