I appreciate the footage but, I find no pleasure in seeing my ancestors in servitude.

“The two hours for lunch club” What an ignorant remark. If the leisure club expended even half the energy by that time of day; in the tropical heat; they’d be dead.

Kingston sure looked a lot cleaner and safer in those days compared to now.

I remember a rural Jamaica where up to 1979 one was able to leave one's windows and doors open at nights. Except for Kingston, one could get lost at any part of the island without fear of being in the wrong place. Then there was the matter of guns in Kingston, how did poor people who could hardly afford anything, afford expensive assault rifles? Drug pushing came about after the late 1980's, long after serious gun violence began to rule Kingston. Obviously they were being given the guns.

My Jamaican grandparents, Clifton Hurlock and Isolen Hurlock (Erskine) were both in their 20s when this footage was filmed!

My parents were born towards the end of the 1930s in Jamaica so it's amazing to see Jamaica in that era.

I think Obama should do us all a gigantic favour and release classified CIA documents detailing how guns were transported to Jamaica and which politicians living or deceased are implicated.

Unlike some who think Jamaica was better-off before independence, there are a lot of similarities, then and now. Except in terms of demographic shifts, and changes in crime patterns, etc. Jamaica today has: more, and bigger banks, more hotels (some locally owned), financial companies all over, higher literacy, more widespread rural electrification, more households with indoor plumbing, more miles of paved road surfaces, etc. Prime Ministers that reflect origins from diverse walks of life in

My father was born in 1930's Jamaica. My Mother in 1940's Jamaica. I was born in 1960's England. Our children were born in late 1990's and 2000's in The Netherlands / Holland. So my side of family has gone from Jamaica to England to The Netherlands in 3 generations. Still, its nice to see pictures of the environment my parents lived in. And guess what? A yard, we still chat Patois.

Oooooooh 🥰🥰 it's such a beauty to watch , so much memories , and see how that young man actually ran up that tall coconut tree , and how they husk the coconut on the stone , people were more slimmer , healthy and stronger in those days , because it was more manual labor , Beautiful , God bless Jamaica land we love 👍👍👍♥️♥️♥️
