Actually a woman told me about a woman who built hers and was never robbed. The man even went and bought materials himself with his own money and built up the house. He said he has children in America and heard how hard it is for people there. The woman paid him when she came home. God is good not everyone is evil.
Thank you so much for sharing. I am an American retiree living in Jamaica. I have been working on building a 3br, 2bath house for over 5 years. During the first year of construction, I had the experience of paying for work to be done that was not done as expected. I was so discouraged and ready to give up. From that time, I only had work done when I could be present. That slowed things done, and there was also the Covid slowdown. In 2021, I was granted permanent residency, so I was able to keep track of the work much better, and I had a trusted friend to negotiate with the workmen for me. There were still problems with workmen not showing up as expected, prices rising, and work having to be corrected. Of course, now everything is so expensive but hopefully soon I will be I an ready to move into a finished part of the house ( bedroom, bathroom, temporary kitchen). Your video has encouraged me to keep pushing to get in the house as soon as I can, as this will help with my overall expense as well. I probably would not have ventured into this had I really known what to expect on this journey. But I am now determined to continue, and I do love living and learning in Jamaica. Thanks again from your new subscriber.
Congratulations on your residency! That’s what I did finished a section and moved in continue to work on your dream house don’t let those dishonest workmen stop you.Jamaica is the best!❤
I am glad you are not discoirage. Next time if you are building a house you need one mason one carpenter one steel man to tie the steel and then you pay some one with experience in that field to see that it done properly other wise you are building two or three house amd his only one you getting at the end of the day tgey will thieve the cement 2 bags per day and a few blocks a day but over charge you a tell I am telling you this not asking them can"t manage me
American woman here, building in Jamaica. Definitely a challenge finding honest workmen who take pride in their work. Everyone is a sammer, even if its in a small scale. Keep your eye in the prize!!!
Hi Gigi, sorry to hear you've gone through this ordeal, my family and I have gone through the same. My past experience as a construction manager in the UK and as a returning resident has put me in a position to create a company to oversee and construction work and manage payment, and auditing of all materials and receipts. I'm currently at my family home in JA overseeing local workmen, maybe I can help.
This is SO REAL. I had an awful experience in the past. I was paying the contractor and he would tell the workmen that I owe him money 😂😅😂 it took one brave one to ask me when I was going to pay the "G" so him can get his money. I said what??? I asked him whats he's talking about, I don't owe his boss any money. Then thats where it all started. I play it down safe and let him go. I don't trust NO workman, Landlord, bor Tenant. Thanks for sharing, and you are right, don't give up on your dreams. I will share my story one day.
Them take the money and buy young gal you no see how most of them ugly their woman att he house no get no money to send the kids to school a mi fi tell you
Mami, it wasn't exactly safe for you as a woman to meet up with any of those dudes on your own. i really wish things were as smooth as they are in the Uk . building a home ain't for the faintest of hearts in the tropics.
@@PHlophe That's true, but I was prepared, I spoke to the police (before I prayed about it, being a woman of faith, I allow God to fight my battle and sgow me where to go) I was so busy that I was not paying attention. But thank God it's over. He didn't prolong with me by the way because I got the cops involved. Was I scared, a little, but I kept praying, asking Lord Jesus for his help, and going to the police helps me out. JA is unbelievable and not all understand the things that some people goes through. Have a great day, and please be safe.
OMG 😳 The same EXACT thing happened to me when I built my house in JA. One workman buss on the contractor. Luckily I kept all the receipts to prove to the workers that I had paid the contractor who stole their pay! The contractor also lied that he purchased materials when in fact he didn’t. All contractors in JA are scammers. Every last one of them.
This has been going on forever. We should all learn from this. It’s more expensive to hire a construction company to do the work but in the long run you have piece of mind and insurance to back what’s going on. These so call work men are very dishonest and take people money to solve their own problems.
The reason why some stays in poverty, it is the obsession with a quick buck. That guy could have had many jobs after that one because he would have built a good reputation.
Hi SMlifestyle, sorry to hear you've gone through this ordeal, my family and I have gone through the same. My past experience as a construction manager in the UK and as a returning resident has put me in a position to create a company to oversee and construction work and manage payment, and auditing of all materials and receipts. maybe I can help.
Lots of Jamaican poor people who usually can't read and write never have the idea of being honest looks like honesty is great pain and sorrow the house Dem grow in honesty was something Dem scorn
Yup, my father has built a great reputation and at his age of 70+ many people still rather get him to do work over anyone else and tell him he can't stop working because if is not him then they don't know what they will do.
One charge my mother one million dollars to paint her four bedroom, two bathroom house in Patrick City. She didn’t tell me or my brother and went ahead and pay half before we found out. It’s like he thinks he was painting Gordon House, the two airports, cement factory, the embassy, Carib theatre, Ward theatre, Half Way tree, all roll into one.
Thank you all for the tremendous support! Much ❤ those of you who have been following for a while know, I’m not consistent with videos I have been working ,and working,as soon as I get some time I’ll answer all your questions. I appreciate you all!!
Bigup mon, rem you have to live your life other than social media... come Tru when you can I really like this topic because it resident's to me... people are badmind/jelous for our blessing for our ambition and our journey given to us from God up above... I can write a book how family , so call friends and professional trademen, painter ripped me .. but little do they know God is with me always.. 2 best people who worked at my place are the " tiler and the electrician".. my own sister was there ha ha but she was not!!! And I know you will understand this rite here. But I can tell people this "TRUST GOD ALMIGHTY" HE WILL ALWAYS SEE YOU TRU ESPECIALLY HE PROVIDE THOSE FUNS FOR YOU TO DO YOUR BUISNESS HONESTLY... and for them to come rob you, over charge you , leave your place unfinished after getting your money, abuse you financially ha they will not enjoy those monies.. their hand and pockets will forever have that big hole in jesus name and they will always found wanting.
I dont know why some workmen in Jamaica are so disappointingly disgusting, i have some stories i tell you. keep the faith, thank you for the encouragement...
if you think those in jamaica are a piece of work . Those in Ghana will say "Hold my beer" , we are way worse. I done seen it all down there . Y'all heard about the woman who bought a piece of land from a senator and it turned out mufuka sold it to 10 people and she was the 8th.
My sister I hear you loud and clear..we need a forum where we as sisters can sit and discuss what (personally ) have gone through with dem. Especially family, i will not a red cent for them to puck it up.. Respect my sister.. One Love. 🙏
Listening to you I went through the same situation and I vow I would never build again until someone introduced me to a young man , I prayed before and God to take the lead , To my surprised it’s the best thing as ever happen to me so never give up🙏🙏🙏
Foolish workman lose a job over a a loaf of bread when the job would have seen him eating for years. When people rob you you feel violated for sure but like you say you can't let them stop you , cause them a di least you got important things to achieve.
@@smlifestyle1811Lady I'm sorry to say this but your naive to trust some Jamaicans to build your house especially if you're a woman who lives abroad. You should have instead bought a small house. I don't know why Jamaicans abroad especially women who build these extravagant ordinary looking houses.
Thank you for the encouragement my sister. I too got ripped off in the worst way. The mistake I made I wasn't going down often enough to see what was going on. The builder was just collecting my money and not doing the work. He was dragging his feet. At the end I had to fire him. Now I'm broke and struggling to move on
I am watching from connecticut.sorry to hear that you was robbed my dear.i can feel your pain when one come to live abroad it seems like some think that money grows on trees.i was in Jamaica last year and was told not to go in Mandeville market I would be charge more than who live their.when one is building a house in Jamaica it is best to stay for a little time and sort things out .my police friend family living in England was robbed by these workmen who did a shabby job and the person who they claim was a friend overseeing the work was just as dishonest .my friend family wanted to put him in charge but he refuse
Most contructon worker are thieves one any site you see you can get cement ,blocks to buy from them also people lumber 99 percent of them sell your material because them no live any where have no ambition ,the one with the ambition move your material to their premisses and build a house out of you you could chaw iron we all get rob by them but my dear sis keep the faith them can't keep a good woman down bless up YORSELF SIS
@@smlifestyle1811 The hardware sounds like a good way to go. Put a plan in place that whenever they need anything they should go to the hardware. Then get the receipts etc from the hardware. These people have no conscience. They don't realise how much some of us go thru a foreign to get to where we are. Just sad! all the best my dear. It will be worth it in the end.
THIS IS FACTS I CAN RELATE TO THIS RIGHT HERE... RIGHT NOW ONE IS OWING ME $280,000.00 JA.. ONE TOOK MY MONEY START AND LEFT MY PLACE...EVEYONE WHO work on my house are thieves, they over charge me, let me have to go back to get more unnecessary materials... they get my money and because am in the us the just take money tell that they finish when we see pic they are not done... so i have to call different people..panter a robber ,tradesmen are robber, even family members but i left them to time and God.
That is painting everyone with a wide brush, not all Jamaicans are dishonest, and just so you know there are dishonest and unreliable people throughout every nationality. When we decide to take on ventures of this kind the its imperative we are constantly on hand whenever possible and to always choose professionals and not cobblers and this is speaking from personal experience, because there is always a few crooks in the mids aiways trying to scam.
Your channel just came up my feed, being a JA and it's nothing scandalous 😂😅 I click. You can check out the directory, that's how I found a company, wnd he finish up the house for me. Please don't use anyone in your area, security purposes. Bless up and do yuh ting🙏 no food like JA all when we deh a faregin and cuk ee😂😅😂
Just sub to your channel and the same thing happened to me my building should have have been finished and I have to start over the good thing you can go home but I found someone who is really good thank you for your encouragement
S & M, I ran into your channel accidentally but it was woth it. I am sorry for your misfortune with dishonest workmen but I like your spirit. You are a motivator. It is said, " A crisis does not make a person. It shows you what he or she is made of." Their dishonesty will not make them better nor will it make you worse. I have built in Jamaica while I was there and I have no regret. You are a blessing. Keep on trusting. It's all about God and time.
You are such a beautiful person inside and out. I feel your pain and experience with some of what you have gone through. I am sorry that i started building, should have purchased a house instead. The level of envy that these so called builders have is on another level. They even knowingly mess your work up. I hope the Chinese will be able to start building for local Jamaicans soon. These so called builders belongs on the plantation. I have nothing but contempt for them. With that being said, I trust you will continue to have better experience and have your project completed with minimal stress etc...
The chinese dont build quality houses like the locals but they work faster and are more professional. The other day when the earthquake happen, the buildings affected were the ones built by the chinese
I can sympathize with this lady. I too, was robbed by three different so-called professionals. First one was the actual so-called contractor! Second was a builder and lastly, a carpenter. You simply cannot trust anyone in jamaica!
Spoken like a real dunce, there are dishonest individuals all over the world, its on you to try and find the right people to work for you but in doing so you also need to be as vigilant as possible because in the end you want to know that what you are trying to accomplish is to your benefit.
....My personal view is that most are dishonest to the core and cannot be trusted. Sorry to say but most have the teefing mindset ....You need to be physically there while the work is being done .....When you find good workers, you need to hold on to them
I use my brother to build my place and whatever material is needed I call all the hardwares and get prices and get a friend go to that particular store where I get the best price to buy it. I work too hard so I make sure I do my checks. I have a really good and honest friend still and my brother just want to know the material is their all he needs is the labour cost that he charges.
I love this video for the transparency about the situation and the price. Even though I am not close to purchasing property I hope to be present when things are being done due to how dishonest people can be. Thanks for sharing. Sorry that had to be your experience
That is Jamaica for you, bare tief deh a yaad! It's really hard to find honest people to work with. DON"T GIVE HM THE TOOLS, him naah guh pay yuh back.. Karma will get to him soon.
I am building in mandeville.i pray to heavenly father to send me the right people and he did.i have no problem with my work people thank be to god and i live in Canada
Mom you real motivated me because I’m building something from 2019. I did not have the time to go start it but my mom did and I let her. They did bad work and rob up much of the money. 2022 I went with my mom to correct the bad work and deck the top and boy he rob us blind and we didn’t understand a lot of things. I return to the USA and work more than enough to buy materials and to complete the house. The man ask for down payment and the man had us believe he can do everything on the house, my mom was paying him 100,000 thousand jmd weekly and he’s not doing what he supposed be doing and she keep on paying him until she was stressed before she notified me. The same way you tried to work out the money back same thing I try and it didn’t work so I fired him. I’m not going to lie I lost hope and forget about that house because they robbed us 3 different times.
good to see that you carried on to build your dream home after such dishonesty!! but learn to never give money before the job is done. Let them do the work first and then pay them after. Nice video keep them coming
I suggest that people save up their monies, call or go online and price things from where u r. U can sometimes purchase online or over the phone, have ur delivery date set for the day after arrival. Sit there, watch them work take their lunch break. That way they can’t stretch out the work, if it’s a week u there for. U finish up that materials, get back on the plane and repeat. It will take longer, but, in the end u will be saving. If the job take 10 bag of cement u want to see that that’s what’s being used and not 5 bag. Then u move in and places start to leak and crumble. Unfortunately u can’t trust no one down there, sad really.
Thanks for your encouragement , your sister here is fighting d good fight, hoping to get to the finished line .Once there is a vision,God has d provision.Thank u Lord
Sorry for your experience. Let's this be a lesson to others planning on building their dream home, back ah yard! Not even family you can trust. Sadly. You have to be down there most of the time, buying the materials yourself!
Oh, I truly admire you sharing what has been happening to you in Jamaica I am about to build a house and I am iffy about it before you even share your comment. It’s like I want to and I don’t want to. It’s scary.😂😂😂🥰🥰🥰🥰😊
Please do! That’s why a lot of people today want to return, but don’t have a home to live in, don’t let anyone or anything stop you from achieving,do your research!❤️
Robbers, robbers everywhere. I got robbed in Central America, girl I tell u, it sucks. We can only just move on and trust in God that the end results of the house will pay off. God help us all who are building homes overseas.
Sorry to hear that's what they did to you after you work so hard for your money. It seems, though the new contractors you have aren't much better. The mortar on your blocks are cracking, drying out. It wouldn't take much to knock those walls over. Better to buy a pre existing home or from a builder. Less headaches, less stress. If your not there watching they will cut corners to your detriment
There are agencies that protect consumers that are building down here.My advice as a builder don't start a project until you have that check for the total amount to start and finish asap .Because the quotes that you get in January 2022 is a totally different quote in January 2023.
It’s almost like a lot of folk in Jamaica feel that we who live abroad owe them something. Speaking from experience… It is not okay to take what is not yours. They (builders and family) did the same thing to my Mom. But “God Nah Sleep…” I will wait. As Mom used to say “Wants never done” and I know going forwards they cannot ask this side of the family for not even a grain of rice.
@@Onemorgantolove😅😅😅 same so , my brother works in construction, some folks feel to come with a little money to pay people and want shit done ✔️ some of us needs to stop lying no have no money
God is good my Daughter, I am from Jamaica ,living in the USA for years. I was robbed years ago, that was to do in Edgewater St Catherine to do work to enclosed areas like enclosing with glass parthsions to back porches, to enclose front areas with glass to other things which cost me over Five Hundred Thousand and hon that was hears ago, at that materials was even much cheaper hover I was robed so much. Yet that was a Registered Contractor for to do whatever He had to apply for plans etc to do the work.. But God stood by my side. the way he stood by you, so we have to give him Praises continually for his many mercies towards us. Please my Child do continue to do your best The LORD BLESS AND KEEP YOU ALWAYS. Yours 42 Empress. Peace to everyone/
you are blessed by god and he will guide you in every way, the scum that steals from you his time would come very soon ungrateful (Fu***) you are a very strong young lady and I would be praying for you, wish you all the best and take good care stay safe and strong,
I'm sorry to hear that but never let workmen purchase a pin for the work he's doing. Get a trusted person to buy materials, visits the site, video call and take pictures, pay workmen in stages as to what is done. When peoples are unfair they'll get their fair share in time. I was rob over 2mil and some of the robbers in jail, in cemetery and some on the run. God will deal with them accordingly. No sin go unpunished sister.
So sorry that you had to go through that I have heard too many o these stories, but Jamaican in the diaspora, in my opinion, is that you should use a reputable contractor, not just "builders" check the .aster builders list. My sister you should expose this individual and report them to master builders association
You are not the only who.get rob from mason in jamaica me too 😢 .when i found out and call the mason from germany that theifing mason tell me he is going to come here in germany to kill me, for my hard working money.many jamaican think we are rich when we live abroad.i work 8 HOURS a day to earn some money to build my houes. But thank god the almighty i get a very honestley mason to finish my house in Montego bay.🙏🏻.
I want to build my house in Jamaica so badly but I'm so afraid of the Jamaican so called contractors. I'm waiting for the Chinese to start building houses in Jamaica like the Florida builders, then I will hire them to build my house to my liking. I know the chinese will do so very soon. Most Jamaican so called contractors will never work to meet my standards, and they are also very crooked.
@gennisparry4352 I guess the roads and bridges that the Chinese are now currently building are built cheaply won't last and not of good quality? Just asking 🤔.
One thing I learn when you building.take off 2 weeks evey six mts and go down and do your thing and you will see.i am building and that's what I do.if I was sending money I sware that I would say they rob me.things very expensive
I am planning on moving also but when I do I will have to have 3 months to watch them and then I'll come back again for another 3 months. There are some good Christian people though, they will do the right thing and some of them have nice houses so they don't have any reason to steal.
I know the feeling, I was rip off by the contractor although I had a contract, I dismissed him and had to go over the works he’s done which is costing me doubled now
Yes God will see you through and leave them all to God!!! Most of these workers are so dishonest and wicked especially when you live in USA or England!!
I am sooo sorry this isn’t good because you work hard send to down your money 💰 its not easy. I am watching you from ST.THOMAS US Virgin Island keep your head up ,and its hard to trust ppl with your money
For the record, I live in Florida and I got burnt building my house in the United States of america. And for the record I live in America these contractors stole all my money I had no way of suing them because they just file for bankruptcy. A thief is just a thief no matter what country they are in and these contractors are professional legal thieves..
I honestly thought you’d have a better chance in the state, but like you said “a thief is a thief”.Sorry you too went through that, just continue to move forward ❤
