Reminds me of when I worked in restaurants, one of the most important things was when a customer was about to pay, if there was nobody at the register we would be yelling cash up front until somebody got their butt up there to take the customer's money!
i went on a date with a guy from jamaica and he said that his dream was to open a jamaican restaurant that staffs jamaican immigrates as cooks but only hires americans as the servers for this very reason 😭
One time I was ordering food and the lady was acting like that and I said “you gotta bad attitude Ik this food is gonna be good” and the lady laughed and changed her tone
@@jamaicanprincess4124this is NOT an exaggeration! I live in New York and this is the stank attitude of the counter person at EVERY Jamaican restaurant in the hood ! Their food may be great, but their attitude is disgusting, so I stopped patronizing these ignorant places! I rather make my own at home, thanks to RU-vid university! 👏🏾👏🏾😆
I went to one only one time and was warned by the angry lady leaving about how she’s never met anyone so rude working in a restaurant… so when I went inside and the lady just stared at me, I said just bring me whatever you’d like, I’m happy to finally relax. She stared for a minute, yelled some words I didn’t really understand towards the back. Told me to go sit. Best meal ever 30 minutes later 😂
Best practice for real is just see what they got when you first walk in the door cause they slow, you will wait in a line with only 2 people in front of you for liiiiike 30 minutes…. Just to be told no we are out of everything you want!!!😂😂
You say that until you have subpar oxtail.. I just try not to take the attitude personally. They put all their love and joy into the food so they have nothing left for the customers 😂 I'm fine with it, just don't hold your breath for a tip 😅
In my mind this works, in reality, I just know they are gonna point to the menu and ask if I can read😭and I be wanting that pattie far too badly to just walk away.
Well I'm cuban from Miami and I can say the same about cubanos. The older women sometimes have bad attitudes and talk loud and rude 😅 but I just shrug it off order my food pay and then get outta there!!
Honestly the best strategy I've found for the Jamaican places I've lived near is to just ask what they have that day. I feel like the menus are more like "Everything that might ever be served here" and not at all "What you can order here today".
I come from a country that was occupied for centuries and we were second class citizens in our own land. We are also bad at service industries, and smiling at strangers all day like an idiot for no reason, like they are our good friend or something, rather than someone asking you to do something you would rather not be doing...I'm not saying its right, its just that i identify.
I’m part Jamaican and I hate most Jamaican restaurants I’ve been to in the US (especially if there’s no auntie at the counter). There’s one in my black where I go with my white boyfriend and they treat him like a king and me like shit 😂😂😂
Say you've never had authentic Jamaican food without saying it. Say you've never seen the Soup Nxzi episode of Seinfeld where George continuously fails to order the soup right and get's "NO SOUP FOR YOU". If the food is that good, you cater to them to get it. Not the other way around.
@@neurodivergentpixi6736 Hm, sounds like yet another aspect of this culture that needs to change. Amongst so many other things that could be said about the Jamaicans, lol.
@@neurodivergentpixi6736a lot of us haven’t had authentic Jamaican food, which is why we’re asking questions. Would be nice if someone explained this lmao. Like, if it’s just that their bedside manners are poor then that’s okay, we just wanna know what’s going on
She ain't lying when they asked what my name for my order the lady aggressive asked "what dey name ya dat for?!" Everyone stopped eating and watched after that then she came to me talking nice 😂
When they say no, ask them what have they got today, half expecting to walk out the door. I tend to go for places where you can see their warmup station only for that very reason.
I just ordered from a Jamaican restaurant a couple days ago and it was probably the best customer service I've had in a long time. The girl kept calling me baby, and reassuring me that everything I ordered was there she didn't pressure for a tip they were so friendly and they kept smiling. They were awesome
@@kourkiedekreator4365 😂 hell nah I'm not showing her the video. She looks like she hasn't laughed since Mufasa died. I don't even think she knows how to laugh or take a joke and I enjoy the food there so nope. 😂
@@Robdee999 I’d honestly just post an anonymous Google review with the link to the video (and a short caption just so it doesn’t look like spam). Might be the best way to have her see it 💀
Lmaooppp u sound like my former boss she was from China She said " if I see lots of white people at a Chinese restaurant I know they aren't serving authentic Chinese food and won't even bother going inside" 😂😂😂
@@akosua8779 for a Chinese restaurant I am looking for the owner's child doing homework at one of the tables, otherwise I know the food isn't going be be authentic
This is why I stopped frequenting Jamaican restaurants coz this is legit my experiences every single time. I don't care if you're a black owned business, you ain't getting my money. Plenty of soul food restaurants out there with much nicer black grandmas/moms still running it; I'll support those instead.
Jamaicans are rude people. When you go to Vietnamese owned restaurants they are so friendly and ready to serve you. Of course they know in business that when you treat your customers well the more traffic and money it brings to your business
I could say that about some people in any country. Don't generalise, the majority of Jamaicans are jovial and friendly. They shouldn't try to put everyone in the same boat. It is a personal experience!!! I also know these are not Jamaicans 🙄
@@UndertheNeedle282oh snap, I've literally never heard this advice before, tysm 🙏❤️✨ YOU'VE SOLVED MY SOCIAL ANXIETY. /S/ How about just be grateful that you don't suffer from social anxiety and not crap all over other people who experience things you don't? You literally don't know what it's like to be anyone other than YOU.
For real! It's a NYC thing. I went to a Little Cesar's in Bklyn and nobody was behind the counter. I gently said, "Hello??" And this girl came out and just stared at me. So I said, "Hi, how are you?" .....Still the blank stare... so I just gave up and ordered my pizza. I love my city but dag!
interesting. in my experience, some Jamaicans have an aversion to working, and bring their bad attitudes to the customer service desk. you can get good customer service, just ask for it. if it's not provided, then leave. that's what I've always done, even at the Chinese restaurants where their attitude many times rivals eastern europeans, and caribbeans
I remember being lectured by a carribean lady in Publix bed I wanted extra mayo. They get crazy about portioned food and will jones you for eating too much 😂😂
I have social anxiety and have been wanting to visit a jamaican place to try out oxtail and a couple other dishes💀 this just convinced me ill never be able to taste it 😭😂
They’re not acting like that bc they hate you specifically or something, keep in mind it’s like a cultural thing. Everyone has to prove themselves to earn respect(edit: as in, in their culture; I personally think it’s backwards. Maybe it’s a low trust high crime society)
Where??? Jamaican restaurants in America or Jamaica? Cuz I’m Jamaican and they don’t act like this when I go to restaurants unless someone really gives them a reason to be like that.
@@jamaicanprincess4124 might be an exaggeration generally however there's plenty of people with an experience similar enough to this where it isn't an "exaggeration" to them. Sometimes they really are rude. Are Jamaican people rude in general? No not necessarily. However this is not uncommon at all
Ive never had this experience ever. Maybe because they're super nice out here. Thank you Ms. Sima for always serving it up with a beautiful smile and a wonderful attitude.
As a white man who enjoys Island cuisine, I often find it necessary to have my black wife place our food orders. This is because I consistently receive smaller portions and am charged more when I order myself. This treatment feels like clear discrimination.
Oh damn that's terrible. There's a couple of BBQ food trucks near where I live, that will hook all of the white men construction workers up with mountains of food. And it seems like they only give the Black customer's (I'm black female) really measly portions. Like WTF! I stop going there.
I sweeeear. Went to south Florida for the first time and it’s like you’re bothering them by even coming in and spending money. And yes, half the menu is unavailable! But did I go back a second time? You bet I did.
I had a layover in Hollywood recently and mostly everyone there were literally some of the rudest people I've ever encountered, and I've been all over the US.
@@Foreverforestsyes! I’m from South Georgia & we went to Miami & the whole time we were talking about how rude people are then we met a girl on south beach from New York & we asked her how she felt about being down here & she said “it’s fine but people are weirdly overly nice” & we were like what!??? 😂😂😂
@@lovelace01107I’m from the Bay Area (California) and I was visiting friends in Fort Lauderdale a few years ago. We went to the flea market (swap shop?) and it made me realize how much I miss the San Jose Flea Market lol
I got some bomb ass food from a jamacian spot and i had to go get some more sides because it was so damn good. They rolled their eyes and complained how theyre not going to have enough to take home. Honeslty should've just walked away but i already paid. But im never going back for something i can look up on youtube to make.
@@ShiningLight411 You need glasses? You don't see the comments talking about "This is so accurate". If jamaican restaurants did not have food and treated customers poorly, then they would not exist.
I’m gonna be honest, the Jamaican restaurant next to the college I went to everyone was so nice and sweet to me. Once the door on my van freaking fell off and some of the guys in the back helped me get it secured back to my car so I wouldn’t miss class!
So true! I bought my food (carry out) and the Jamaican man didn't want to give me bags so the gravy wouldn't spill in my car. I spent over $20 and he treated me like a beggar.
I loveeee my Jamaican restaurant from around my way!!! They show mad love ❤️ and they food is ALWAYS BOMB!!! Bbq 🍗 chicken FALL STRAIGHT OFF THE BONE!!
