My Viking friend..., at your finger tips you have the power of the WORLD WIDE WEB to answer any questions you may have about almost everything so punch in authentic Jamaican rice & peas in your search engine and see what's up..., thank me later 👊🏾👍🏾
I represent Jamaicans & Latinos & I can't stop laughing! I'm not surprised by this but as a man that love rice & peas(arroz & frijoles, gallo) this is funny as hell!
Just imagining....someone putting down a plate of oxtail, with LITERAL white rice and pees on it, made my soul damn near leave my body. I almost cried at the thought 😢😂
That's English rice & peas mate straight from the birds eye captain the only thing that's missing is fish fingers...lol😃 That's sweet Green peas & rice for me bean
It' is just white rice with friozen mixed vegetables. As a Caribbean national who lives in England. England donot have a version of rice and peas. Their green peas are just eaten mushy or like vegetables on the side. Only ones cooking rice and peas up here are Caribbean nationals and we know how to cook rice and peas and rice and beans.
One time I was at my British friends house and she said she could make rice and peas and used to make it I was thinking oh she knows how to cook it that’s good next thing I know she’s getting green peas out the freezer lol I thought that was just her lol
Ok, we say rice ‘n’peas, and it’s beans, but like any dish if you haven’t cooked it before, you check it out. Nowadays there’s too much info especially on YT to find out what it is, the ingredients and how it’s cooked....no excuse!!!period!!!
Wow I'm just shocked by the amount of Jamaicans commenting that seem to be forgetting pigeon peas/gungo peas are used in rice & peas instead of kidney beans sometimes so that's probably where the name probably originated from.
@@isaz597 well Jamaicans use all of them in their rice and peas kidney beans, gungo peas dry and green gungo peas, cow 🐄 peas also to make their rice and peas.. r
@@carolwynter7670 agreed I live amongst Jamaicans & bajans so I've been extremely fortunate to experience these dishes. I've just commented to say the "peas" in "rice & peas" probably comes from the peas you mentioned so even if kidney beans are used more often nowadays the original name is definitely from the use of cow & gungo peas etc.
Lmao hilarious😂😂 And facts though, that its rice with mixed vegetables lol she couldn't even just let it be peas!!! This is equivalent to the potato salad with raisins😳😳
@@thegovernor4346 I really enjoyed it! It was a sad but Deep illustration of how society is functioning. The decline of the best friend (can’t remember his name right now, Timmy?) broke me. You can see how revenge and vengeance can really change people. It was heart wrenching as you could really relate to the characters. During school days I remember going to parties with my friends and having the Best times too and singing on the bus. It’s the flip side of the good times that’s devastating! Did you enjoy it?
@@Mesmerise5107 That was some great insight. Yes I enjoyed it thanks, I prefer British films good ones tho over American ones. I bet that kind of thing between those two friends happens quite often no matter how hard they try to keep on the straight and narrow the gang life is inevitable…. Was propa shocked to see white yardie in it tho lol 😂
In the VI we say red peas and rice and when we make soup we say red peas soup. But of course we know it's kidney beans. Might just be a Caribbean thing.
@@donnaevans5131 No because it is a bean and not a pea. This dish is cooked in all Caribbean Islands and Jamaicans are the only ones that call it rice and peas. I'm Grenadian and we also call it rice and red beans. We call rice and green peas or guango peas. Rice and peas. I'm married into an English Jamaican family and when I moved to England. I always told my wife and inlaws. Don't call it rice and peas. That is not a pea. It is kidney beans🤣🤣. But they are stuck in their way. Can't change that.🤣
yow lol. but i literally spoke of this like 2 days ago as yes, though the dish is made with actual beans (kidney, black, black eye, pigeon etc) our culture calls it peas. So we gotta keep teaching folks as well as maybe we need to slap on JAMAICAN Rice and Peas in the title for folks to get the difference. Cause unuh know seh, rice and beans for a Jamaican is rice and baked beans 😜😜😂
Like all food from around the world it gets messed with I remember going too a member of my sons family’s for dinner he’s mixed English and Italian and the food was so much better then any Italian restaurant I’ve been too
