Actually not to sound like a total nerd and you probably know this, that's not her name but it means pretty much "gross old woman" or "old hag" I think it might also be a type of witch I'm not sure though
4:17 - Now about Snatcher. He is a fantastic villain, all in design, personality, arc and that deliciously wicked voice performance by Kingsley, and he is from my PERSONAL FAVOURITE film from Laika. I actually think it is a lovely and stellar film to me. I even got its novelisation and it did got more in depth with both Winnie and Eggs. I even made an audiobook about it on my channel.
Not to mention he is absolutely hilarious! Every time he’s on screen, he steals the scene but he’s still an immediate threat to our heroes and never seen as a bumbling buffoon.
I think Snatcher wants to be in the White Hat club because they are biggest cheese lovers in the city so to him being included would make him fit in even if it's bad for him.
Other Mother probably left an even bigger impact on 14 year old me than if I had seen Coraline after its theatrical run because I saw the film in 3D and was not really experienced with horror at the time, that entire climax left me scared of the door to my house's attic for years.
4:56 Speaking of his minions I do like the portrayal of them Gristle Is very well Aware of his bosses intentions where as Pickles and Trout are oblivious to how evil their boss is
Honestly, I see a similarity between Aggie and Alessa from the Silent Hill movie. Both were just little girls who had no control of the very thing that made everyone but their mother hate them.

I am so happy to see you finally did a Laika villain ranking list! Though in my opinion I would have put Snatcher in first place, he’s honestly such an amazing villain to me with how entertaining yet threatening he can be, plus his henchmen are a ton of fun as well!
My friend who used to work for a movie theater, told me once that the twin sisters in Kubo used to make kids cry in the theater whenever they showed up.
What a great ranking! I didn’t think you would do Laika at all! They finally have a new movie coming out next year called wildwood! I absolutely can’t wait!
This has to be your shortest ranking video to date, as you only had eight entries when other short rankings had at least eleven. And this sure is one of their studios where their first villain has been their best and still is...
@@adventuresryan Though a film list on all the villains from animated movies Focus Features has done would be cool And you're absolutely right It is a tragic character as the Fabrication Machine Was created with his creator/father figure's intellect but lacked a soul and when it was taken away form it's father by the Nation's Facist Chancellor it snapped But as it was programmed to adapt it got smart enough to decide it shouldn't take orders from humans And since the film takes place in a parallel version of world war II it thought The only way for peace was to wipe out all life
My top three favorite villians are 1. Kubos Aunts, 2. The other mom and Agatha. Those three make Laika films scary to the point of crossing into Horror, plus thier costumes are cool.
5:50 The reveal that Agatha Prenderghast was a little girl at the time of her death is so harrowing. Up until that point of the movie, you only ever see or hear about her in the context of the curse and of the town's tacky commodification of her murder. She was only ever just "the witch that was executed here one" to the modern townspeople. She appears as a giant cloud version of a classic witch and Norman assumes that the book he was supposed to read her was incorrect because it was a children's book. But then the reveal automatically turns everything around and the tone of the movie get significantly darker. She transforms from a faceless force of evil to a horribly tragic character who desperately needs someone to see for for what she truly is: a scared little girl. Norman realizing that they are two sides of the same coin and talking to her on her level was the only thing that could have ever stopped the curse for good. The scene in front of her burial tree never fails to bring a tear to my eye.
I think it would be cool to see villain lists featuring villains created by Butch Hartman, villains created by Genndy Tartakovsky, villains created by Craig McCracken, and villains created by Jorge R. Gutierrez.
Jambareeqi, I completely agree about what you said with Other Mother and the Coraline movie, I had nightmares of it when I first watched it as a kid and I still don't plan to watch it now as an adult.
I can only imagine how much trauma Coraline would have. Not only did the beldame keep physical elements of her real mother, but she also kept her voice the whole way through. That poor baby will be on edge hearing her mother's voice for the rest of her life.
This vid made me think of a similar stop motion movie i saw lot of time ago that i cant find anymore, it was about a group from a school and killer, wish i could remember the name of it.
Plus, If you start to think about the sisters from Kubo and the two strings kind of look like the Kabuki twins from Batman. Has anyone else besides me noticed that?
Laika is such a treasure trove for villains. Archibald Snatcher is my favorite, but the Other Mother is probably the best realized. I'm not sure if I would have ranked the Moon King so high, despite his cruelty and a great performance by Ralph Fiennes. I look forward to whatever Laika has in store next.
What I like about Laika villains is that none of them are really weak, because even if they aren’t the deepest, I don’t think they really pull down any of the movies.
I still don't get younger me because it loved caroline and never was scared of it but oh boy for some reason cloudy with a chance of meatballs scared me because of the one scene of where that fat dud gets eaten by a cooked turkey
One differemce Parnoman has with Coraline is that is more grey as the villain is a young girl and the zombies have regreated there actions, while Other Mother is very evil with nothing sympathetic
You know, I never understood that. Why is there a double standard for studios? That likes studios who give a lot of backstories to villains. But then they also hate it when they do give them back stories.
Agatha is one of the most sympathetic villain, but I'm afraid that I can never watch a Laika movie again. The entire origin of Laika Studios is upsetting. The Documentary Claydream goes into more detail. Will Vinton deserved better. Hey Jambareeqi, will you review Will Vinton Studios villains [Adventures Of Mark Twain, Rip Van Winkle, Raisins Sold Out, Claymation Comedy of Horrors/Claymation Easter] one day?
I honestly find the Moon King creepier than the Other Mother/Beldam. The fact that he’s going after his OWN grandson just makes me feel far more unnerved, and his demeanour is just overall more unsettling to me.
@@LeoandLamb it is actually, it was a collaboration between Laika and Tim Burton Productions. And if you want to dispute whether a collab cpunts, just remember Coraline and Missing Link were collaborations as well, with Pandemonium Films and Annapurna Pictures respectively.
