Finding out that Jameela has EDS was so powerful for me. I’m currently in a position where I can’t work, drive or even be in the house on my own and seeing someone with the condition be so successful and able to live such an active life gives me so much hope

If you would like some more hope , I would recommend you check out jessica kellgren fozard's content on her personal struggles with disability,chronic pain and This is the link to her talking about her Eds diagnosis - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-xzBynfWHUMY.html

Right? It’s so encouraging! Right now I’m waiting for surgery and in so much pain and discomfort and might have to take a gap year, which would mean I’d prolong my studies for a third year. I feel so defeated, but she gives me hope! Also, I see you added this three years ago. I hope you’re doing well!

I’m 18 and I deal with eds ( working on getting a diagnosis about 4 doctors have already told me that it’s almost definitively what it is ) it’s one of the most misunderstood and difficult conditions, I also have hyper mobile eds. I currently have a 30 day heart monitor and it’s so hard to relate to anyone my age, I struggle with not isolating from others especially when my pain is worst or stomach is in a flare. Thank you for being open and honest and bringing more awareness to a very misunderstood condition.

Rock that heart monitor, bb! I'm 19 and I've done a few of those related to my EDS issues too. I become a hermit crab during my flare ups too. It's ok! You get to deal with chronic pain in your own way. F everybody who makes you feel misunderstood.

I was diagnosed with hEDS when I was 17, PoTS when I was 18 and MCAS earlier this year at 22. It’s always been hard to relate to people my own age. A while ago I was the most ill id ever been. I was collapsing frequently and losing a lot of weight with stomach issues and a friend moaned because a boy hadn’t replied to her on tinder for 24 hours... I was so over it 😂 but they don’t mean it, they just can’t grasp what it’s like to be chronically ill

Oh my . I think u may find comfort in jessica kellgren fozards own struggle for a diagnosis. I think she has hyper mobile Ed's as well is a delightful ray of sunshine and talks a lot about her struggles with disabilities, chronic pain,and medical trauma. It’s so empowering and validating to hear you speaking about this. I have many similarities to your experiences with trauma as well as eds and chairi malformation. I have little to no support from family and friends, so grateful to turn to someone like you. You are such an intelligent and bright woman. Love you!

Doctors, of the GP sort, can be the most vehement advocates for weight loss - anyone who judges you for your weight (A MEASUREMENT OF GRAVITATIONAL PULL! NOT OF MASS!) is woefully ignorant: the only times where WEIGHT is a problem is when specific areas of one's body are heavier than that which they need to support - breasts being heavier than one's back & torso muscles; one's neck pressing too heavily on the throat; ankles overstressed by calf muscle atrophy, etc. Weight is only relevant when determining pressure, speed, carrying capacity: MASS is only relevant when discerning disproportion in ability to carry said mass: hair, long &/or thick, contributes to weight on the head and neck; stored nutrients, fats and water and proteins, will deposit & weigh down areas your body is not regularly using the muscles of - generally the bust, thighs, stomach, and buttocks. Strengthening those areas with exercise? MUSCLES ARE DENSER THAN FAT: MUSCULATURE WILL WEIGH AS MUCH AS FATS, not to mention the skin stretched to cover them all. Most of all, WATER contributes to weight: dehydration is one of the most common yet unaddressed medical issues a person can have. Being properly hydrated means healthy brain function, strong blood flow, and weighing more. Soda and alcohol DO NOT REHYDRATE YOU; contrasty, your body may struggle to retain the tap water you drink within its systems, instead sending you repeatedly to the bathroom. Alternate tap water with teas, soups, juice/energy drink sachets: merely adding teaspoons of salt&sugar & mixing it in every other water bottle will make it easier for your body to RETAIN the water you're giving it, as opposed to sending it right through you. Never, ever try for "weight" loss: focus on SPECIFIC parts of your body and ask what you want you need or want those parts to be capable of: Do you want to increase day-to-day stamina? What everyday tasks are you struggling with? Which parts of your body feel most tired or frail? Exercise by mimicking THOSE tasks - walking home with groceries, ferrying diaper bags & small children, getting upstairs and downstairs in short bursts. Practice THESE activities, trying to push yourself to work a little longer, with a little more weight carried, or to a further distance each time. Pushups don't translate into leg strength: running doesn't translate to bending to pick up full loads of laundry. Exercise what you'll ACTUALLY be using, concentrate on feeling where you might be neglecting to use back, abdominal, or leg muscles to make these tasks easier on yourself. I'm not a dietician, nurse, nor personal trainer. I DO have chronic dehydration, shaky hands, and a decade & change of training in ballet, swimming, and singing (all of which, practised correctly, helped manage my chronic asthma & anxiety-based respiratory issues). Be kind to yourselves: exercise what YOU need, in your daily lives, instead of following generic routines based on the needs of pro-athletes or fitness junkies.

I loved this video and relate to it so well! I have Hypermobility Spectrum Disorder which is very similar to hEDS and Vasovagal Syncope so I can pass out easily. Also my family can be toxic especially around my health stuff, and the amount of times I've been called hysterical by various men in my life... this video gives me a lot of hope X

I didn't know that Jameela has EDS. I have the hypermobile type with the dysautonomia and other stuff to go with it. I've had to teach my doctors how to treat my EDS symptoms. Thankfully I've been able to get some excellent EDS medications so that I'm living an active life and am no longer bedridden.

2:41 I so like this question. I get really uncomfortable when someone tells me to shut down my emotions or when I’m in a situation that I can’t express my sadness or anger. I want people to remember that all emotions are Ok and we all have emotions. Stuffing any emotion in will cause you problems later.

Fun fact! The full saying is actually "the blood of the covenant/brother is thicker than the blood of the womb" meaning the exact opposite of what society likes us to believe :)

I've been worrying about my weight loss, I am eating healthy and I really enjoy jogging. And sometimes I feel guilt because I am losing weight while promoting body positivity/neutrality. I don't know if I'm being dishonest with myself and my friends. Also sometimes my weight loss is a burden, like I'm afraid to gain weight or what would people say if I "got fat" again. It has made me realise that it doesn't matter how thin or fat you are, you're always under pressure because of your body and that's awful and sadistic.

How do you relax with chronic pain from EDS? I use motrin for my body and RU-vid for my soul
@resourceress7

👍😛 I feel the same way about my fibromyalgia. Plus heat (heating pad, heated mattress pad, or a microwavable dry rice/beans thing as moldable, weighted heating pad). Another channel that's a balm for the soul Is my favorite RU-vidr, Jessica Kellgren Fozard. (Incidentally, she also EDS.) She's an absolute delight, and so is her wife. Oh, and she has a great video explaining why accusing someone of faking their disability/chronic illness is not ok. It was prompted by someone claiming just that about Jameela. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-OBC3zNZx7Dg.html

Depends on the person I guess. I'm very lucky and can still work-out with EDS type 3. Not everyone can and I'm aware of that! I listen to my body carefully also, if it says this is to heavy I just don't do it. This is how I can relax my mind. I do songwriting and I sing to relax my soul.

Just listed to your interview by Katrina Strum and learned about your channel!! Thanks so much for that interview! It meant so much to me as I have EDS as well. Your speaking out about being accused of Munchausen has meant so much to me. I lost my family because they didn't believe my health issues. I also wanted to say during the interview you talked about some stuff to do with your period and pain and how it was related to EDS. I think a lot of people relate it to EDS because there is a common cold condition that many of us seem to have which is Endometriosis. You can't just see any surgeon to deal with it either. You want Excision. Please check out Nancy's Endometriosis Nook on FB or if you Google it she now has a website. I highly recommend going to the CEC for excision surgery. It changed my life! I hope you get to actually see this. I hope this can help you and many others. Painful periods are considered normal and it's completely not. They normalize it and it's not true periods shouldn't knock you down for a few days. My excision specialist was Malcolm McKenzie in Cambridge Massachusetts. The CEC is in Atlanta but they're top notch. Please reach out if you've got any further questions. I hate to see another person suffering 10+years before they get help. Sending so so much love. 😘💕

The “blood is thicker than water@ thing REALLY pisses me off. Firstly, I think it’s a pretty toxic mindset, but also, because it’s actually the opposite of what the original saying means. The fact that people have taken a pretty decent saying and twisted to mean something the opposite, and something pretty toxic just pisses me off. The blood of the covenant is thicker than the water of the womb. Your chosen family is stronger than whatever family you happened to be born into. Blood of the covenant originally meant the whole blood brothers and oaths, but I think it works well to mean any group of people you choose to belong to. So, I guess blood is thicker than water, but the water refers to your relatives, whereas the blood refers to your chosen family- very much the opposite of what people use it to mean. Which I find pretty annoying.
