James Barnes (b:1949, USA) ジェームズ・バーンズ: 交響曲第2番 I. Elegia 00:00 II. Variazioni Interotte 07:15 III. Finale 15:14 Tokyo Kosei Wind Orchestra James Barnes, conducted Recorded: November, 20th, 1991
Love the tonal language here: it is easily "accessible" and "cinematic" at times. Awesome, energetic writing for wind ensemble! The work includes lovely, quiet sections, too. The orchestration is fantastic ... love the fanfare passages. Enjoyed it greatly!
Great recording!! Do you or anyone out there have or know where to find a recording of James Barnes First Symphony op. 35 (winner of the ABA/Ostwald Award in 1978)? I’ve looked everywhere but can’t find one. Thanks!
this is the only song I've ever come across where a good portion of the tuba part was split in 2-4 parts. James Barnes wrote the best tuba parts imo. only because he is a tuba player himself
