James Baxter Animation Webinar hosted by Escape Studios. In this webinar James animates a scene based on audience suggestions, showing how to plan and execute hand-drawn animation.
THIS IS PURE GOLD. I wish more animators did this - show the process on how you start a scene. We want to see what your beginning drawings look like and what you consider to be the most important elements in starting out a scene! There exists so little of this, but to see James doing it is a real gift. Thank you for this!!
Most TV shows are 30-40 seconds a week (2D digital puppets). At least they used to be. I once turned down a job that had a quota of 60 seconds a week. Shows like Green Eggs and Ham had much more reasonable quotas like James mentioned.
How wonderful it is to watch this webinar! James Baxter's work has been a such a big influence on myself as an artist and animator, and getting to see him in his element is truly a privilege. His process feels almost oddly organic (in a good way), compared to others I've watched who has an almost mechanical way about things, but I really enjoy this approach of very much "feeling" the motion. And what a pleasant-seeming guy as well! Thank you all for taking the time to make this happen. :D What a treat!
