James Blake, the first guy I supported on the ATP tour. Someone who was too aggressive for most but still managed to be consistent with it. On his day he was too good for even Nadals style. Probably only Federer could nullify him. I remember that Shanghai masters final, Blake played great but I still think to this day that was Feds best performance of his abilities.

Is it just me or does it really look like Nadal does not take well his defeats? Whenever he wins, he is kind on the net handshake, but that one with Blake in Indian Wells happened many other times as well. Nothing against Rafa, I'm a big fan of his, but that behavior is easy to notice in many of his defeats.
@mclovin9210
@mclovin9210 4 года назад
Not sure what happened in that match. But watching the next clip against Federer in the same tournament, it is quite possible that the Nadal was annoyed by the audience.
@marioalbertoungaretti4
@marioalbertoungaretti4 4 года назад
@@mclovin9210 something probably happened in the Blake match as you see James apologizing for something, but anyway Rafa tends to show a bad loser face at the net whenever he loses to anyone except for Federer. I really believe it's because he is frustrated with himself not being able to find a way to defeat his opponent. He constantly says he is a fanatic for improvement but sometimes you just don't win not because you played badly, the other player simply played better that day. You have to admit both Federer and Djokovic are much better losers as they salute their opponents at the net with joy winning or losing.
@ijump-bounce2283

@@marioalbertoungaretti4 Federer salute his opponent with joy when he loses ? It's literally as cold as Nadal except against Del Po, Wawrinka , Tsonga and Nadal, it's always cold against the other, just compare Djokovic and Federer whenever Federer won or lose, the handshake is way different between loss and win :')

I will never understand why some people mention Gonzalez and Del Potro in the debate of best forehands on tour when we have Blake, guy is definitly above Gonzalez and so explosive while Gonzalez and Del Potro does hit very strong forehands sometimes but not as consistent at all as Blake while Blake will hit them strong most of the time and can hit them atleast as hard as Del Potro and Gonzalez do. Lovely player and such a beautiful classy one handed backhand even if it wasn't always strong.

2 comments: I still feel bad for Blake in that US Open QF versus Agassi. He should have won, and likely would have beat Ginepri in the SF to face Fed in the final. 2nd comment, I really like how much Blake's backhand improved through his career. It was a big liability his first few years on tour, then became a legit weapon and it was one of the best in the game. I admire that kind of dedication to improving your game

There are only 3 tennis players i know the name of, 2 of them are Federer and Blake, Blake is a powerhouse like i've never seen before, the magic bullets that sometimes shoot across the court at a speed i can barely see. Federer on the other hand is just full on magic, any person that can have that level of accuracy while flicking the racket like a whip, while moving backwards, in the air, backhanded... its just unfair at points.

It is awesome (and also sad) to see how this kind of tennis players who preferred to do flat powerful shots could obliterate Nadal in a good day, but Roger was the final boss to beat in hard court. However for those who preferred long rallies, if they were with good rythm it could happen the opposite and Nadal was there to finish them in clay :( Then Djokovic emerged and the "holly trinity" dominance begun.
