There is no doubt MJ was influenced by james Brown, but he was in the Jackson 5 strait out of the womb. Joe jackson had determined Micheal would be a life long entertainer before the influence of james brown
@johndean4765 no brother, he "paid the cost to be the boss" he may have treated them harsh but this made them work. The godfather demanded respect and all gave their respect, purely because in the music industry their were none who could rival
I know. He wears dress shoes with a large heel on them and can still move better than anyone in the world. Imagine if he was wearing comfortable shoes.
The craziest thing about his dancing is that not only is he dancing, every movement is a means of conducting the band. If, even for a second, they didn't have their eyes on him, he'd know and fine them. He was in tune and sync with everything happening
A true complicated hero of mine! Hard to believe that performing on the Chitlin’ circuit they’d do 3 or 4 shows a day and average about 8 hours on stage every day of the tour! And Bobby Byrd never got the moves quite right did he?
03:17 A hundred percent correct, fam. Its why the drummer he had for the show he did at 03:17 part of this video was fired. If I recall correctly he told him in the most unique way I've ever heard by saying, "I don't get it. I thought you were as good as what I heard you were. But now the only thing I know is as long as this airplane is in the air, you have a job." 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣. Leave it to Mr. Brown to go a different & further route than what would've been sufficient enough like just saying "You're fired bcz you don't understand how I conduct this band." I think the only other firing of a musician that made me unintentionally laugh as hard was "The Killer" Jerry Lee's firing of his drummer after he fired his gun at him for whatever reason he did, I can't remember. But I remember he said something along the lines of, "I have to fire him. I need a drummer & now that he's been shot, he can't play." The artists & geniuses that paved the way for our music today may not have been the greatest ppl but, by God, they did & succeeded in what God sent them for. They were geniuses. Who would've ever thought to use their dancing & movements to entertain a crowd & simultaneously conduct a band. And as you said, Mr. Brown was in total control the whole time so much that if you ever saw him flash 5 (fingers) behind once to a few times, he was telling whomever that just messed up that he caught it. The amount of time(s) he'd flash 5 was the amount he'd charge/deduct their pay for messing up. Whether it was 5, 10, 15, 20 dollars. He was completely in sync with everything that he could entertain the hundreds or thousands of people who came to see him, wholeheartedly so, & still be taking note of where every sound from every instrument was coming from & when. I have not nor do I think I ever will see another genius musically like Mr. Brown. In fact when I hear that idiot Kanye West say he's the greatest artist & most important one of all time, I know for certain that he has cast Mr. Brown out of his memory. A man that created numerous genres & styles of music...& he only purposely made a couple of them, being soul & funk. The other genres like Rick James's brand of funk, George Clinton's brand of funk, R&B, Hip Hop were just created & inspired by what he created in funk & soul. Till this very day no one has been more sampled in hip hop than James Brown & I can still his iconic screams & screeches weaved into various beats today. Mr. Brown was very special. Our government grew fearful of him the night he performed in Boston after MLK's assassination bcz he knew how loved & respected he was & had arranged for his performance to be aired in various places across the country to keep broken hearted & angry ppl from rioting across the country, they allowed it but didn't think he was that valuable nor powerful until afterwards when it was revealed that no riots happened across the country during the time of his performance & it was actually bcz ppl were staying home to watch him. He even stopped the disturbance & potential riot that was about to happen during that show between the audience & the police their that night. It made our government feel if he had enough say & power to stop war in this country, he easily had enough power to start if ever he saw fit. Although I'm only 28, I can't be convinced of any artists being better than "Mr. Dynamite", "The GFOS", "The Hardest Working Man In Show Business", a man of & with great respect who would call Ms. ..or Mr. .. & insist that you called him...Mr. Brown
He also had a lot of verbal ques in his music. I read somewhere that he originally wanted to edit out his vocal, ques but decided against it. Glad he did. Can we take it to the bridge?? Hit it from the top!
This James Brown gave me an idea and I'ma patent it quick. Shoes with ball bearings. Call them the JBs hardest working shoes in show business. I'm gonna try to make them affordable to all who dare to ball bearing up.
There's been innumerable attempts to replicate Michael Jackson's dance moves and just a fraction of that to replicate the master of soul, James Brown. That's how brilliant, fantastic and gifted he was at dancing!!
For all the newbies your not just watching a Dancer but also a Singer Song Writer Band Leader Producer Entrepreneur Inventor of a musical genre Up there with the Beatles .
Con, not only did he dDo that, HE LIVED THAT. When James was on the stage, CONVICTION was the first word that always came to my mind. That man wasn't on stage because he WANTED to be there, he was there because HE OWNED THAT STAGE!
Con vic He was more influential than the Beatles. The Beatles didn’t create a genre of music nor did they influence a race of people nor did they quell a riot.
I was a teenager back then, a privilege from the point of view of music. The difference is that everyone was creative and hard working, which is how you make good music. So many songs were something that had never been done before. Now only some do that, the rest copy and repeat.
Hell yeah. Been married since 68, 51 years, still had not seen him in person. I still tell everyone of my true friends to hook me up with James Brown music if I am ever left to be I a coma. I'll get UK p on my good foot, eventually. Ha. RIGHT!!!
Simple music can make you sing, a simple hug can make you feel, better, simple things can make you happy, I hope my simple hello will put a smile on your face.. Hello!!! How are you doing today, please pardon me for intruding into your privacy but I just wanted to know if you're a fan ? Have a great day..
Love this man since I heard him for the first time ( 1970) in a disco in my little hometown in Germany. He`s a legend, and I`m still listening to his music today.
James Brown excited every ethic group in America. He showed other artists and entertainers what is possible on stage. And they all kept coming back for more. People might be able to mimic his moves, but they couldn't match the energy he brought to the stage. He gave fans more than their money's worth. He gave them something they would remember forever.
You can see the seeds that went on to become pop and lock, moonwalk, bboy power moves, and just the general fundamentals of how professionals dance today, but this was all spontaneous. Nobody has ever felt the groove like this dude. Even his ad-libs are always PERFECT, like extreme precision at the funkiest possible syncopation. That’s yet another thing that Mike definitely made his own.
Wauuu, this is crazy good, reminds me of Live in Zaire at his peak when he killed the stage. I love what Prince did with what he got from James Brown, entire album could be made with screams only, let alone dance, playing, positive influence on society. Oh yeah, their music healed my arm no doctor could help, they are so positive, great :) Love
You had to see him in person to appreciate and believe that he was really making some of the moves that he was doing. I'm seventy-five years old and still can't believe it, the man's feet did whatever he told them to do.
Best dancer who ever lived, in my personal opinion! My favorite dancer of all time. The Ed Sullivan performance where he was dancing down the ramp is my favorite, I have never seen anyone move their legs like that, it's insane! 🤩🕺🏾
I saw James Brown perform in the late 90's early 2000 at Indy Jazz fest and anticipated a lackluster performance because of his age . I was soo wrong !! That man had never ending stamina and a strong resonating voice that was not carried by his background singers . Truly a mesmerizing talent of his generation . So glad I went .
What an immense artist: He’s one of the best singer of all time (voice so powerful and scratchced ) he produced his songs, his dance moves inspired a lot of performers and he was a great writer. James Brown people, James Brown.
@@stephenurso9267 I thought so too. Some say a guy did it years before him, of latin descent. Right now, Bill Bailey is the first televised one I know of too. And HE EXITED THE STAGE SO DAMN SMOOTHE!!
Jayson Ferrancullo yeah I love mj ( for me he is STILL the greatest entertainer of all time) but James brown had the moves. It was natural whereas mj had to practice and work ( even though he is fabulous)
I wouldn't say MJ was not on JB's level but JB was uniques as also MJ had his own style, although he was inspired by JB & others when MJ was a kid. No one can be JB & no can be MJ. I love JB's music & MJ. Every person is unique with different abilities.!!
Mastery of a different level, man literally gliding on one foot sliding the other foot in slow motion, all while his top half is smooth calm collected. Literally not 1 artist today in any genre compares
Simple music can make you sing, a simple hug can make you feel, better, simple things can make you happy, I hope my simple hello will put a smile on your face.. Hello!!! holy & hell are mutually exclusive, show some respect for he who gave you life. Shouldn't be THAT hard to find another word..to "express yourself". Get it? much love.
This man was as smooth as they come. A complete genius at his craft. A true entertainer. Unfortunately in todays world, we have carbon copies.. RIP Mr. Brown.
I saw him at a concert in Marseille (France) near the sea at the summer when i was 20 years old omg it was just amazing !!!! He ´s a monster 💪💪💪 thanks for all James !!!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Actually taught had seen it all with Michael Jackson, James brown is d real originator of foot work,MJ only upgraded and rebranded his works. Much respect to u JB Some of his moves even MJ couldn't try or do it. RIP to d 2 greatest black icons and originators of footwork, footmoon, footwave, footspeed, footflap, footfleg dance.
The stamina to sing that hard and dance even harder while not getting winded is amazing unto itself! The skill and creativity! Soul brother number! Even his feet got soul! 👏🏾
Manner sing and dance their own choreography over was invented by James brown. And Michael Jackson this manner brought to perfection possible. Watch how to move Michael Jackson's very fascinating. The impetus for this conditional was James brown.
Yes. True. Michael Jackson we can say grew up on the music of James brown and other singers. And of course James brown influenced the work of Michael Jackson. But I want to say that James brown and Michael Jackson, the greatest musicians ever were in history!!!
Those feet were moving faster than my eyes. Now I have eye strain just trying to follow him. His energy level is still unmatched and I doubt that it ever will be. RIP James.
I am a big MJ fan. I havent listened and watched JB's songs and performances. Now i can see some of MJ's are from JB. He is amazing. Unbelievable that these were 60s and 70s.
