Recorded Live At The Apollo Theatre, James Brown segues from "Let Yourself Go" to "There Was A Time" and Continues With "I Feel Alright". History In The Making!
I had the privilege to attend 5 of his live concerts in Washington, DC and in Leysin (Switzerland). He was magnificent. I breathe his music. He's my favorite singer of all times. I don't think anyone can match his great performances. When I listen to his music I am in ecstasy. May he rest in peace.

When I heard James Brown at 6 years old, that's when I did decided I was never going to school. I just wanted to listen to James Brown. Lol lol but this is the truth!!
Yall have no idea how much I get in awe to there was a time.musically, pure fn genius .transports me.everything working right behind him.that bass and guitar and drums ,horns😘listen to it in a bass speakers and eq the mid and highs. Damn😘😊
YOU NEVER LIED!! I was about two years old when this came out! I had older siblings that were teenagers! Used to drive my Mama blasting this!!! May the Godfather is Soul rise in power!!💯💯🔥🔥🔥💃🏿💃🏿💃🏿💃🏿💃🏿❤️
Tight Band. Tight sound. You can see the foundation for funk coming in the next few years from when this was recorded in 1967-68. When I workout I listen to this. Gets me dancin and prancin. "If it's all night...it's alright. KR.
This is the version of "There Was A Time" that was released here in Pittsburgh. It faded out a few bars after, "until you see me do the James Brown". When this played on the juke box, everybody was on the floor. Of all the songs I've ever broken a sweat on, this has to be my number one favorite!
This my songs.....i use- there was a time- as my show time song...with.my show........MR,TORCH AN THE GO GO GIRLS....THAT SONG REALLY TURN THE CROW ON...
wish the recording was a little more clean but man! This song! I play drums and this song perfectly represents what folkes call “playing in the pocket”. James brown what can you say. This guy was a one of a kind. A single event. Like the barry freakin sanders of funk... bending the rules of logic
This is one of the greatest songs to hear live of all time. This is what they were playing in the michael Jackson and prince on stage vid. I could listen to the three of them(along with Browns band) play/improve over this for an entire show.
I've just been seaching for "There was a time" all over youtube and this is the best version I've found quality wise, the only one I can play loud to impress my neighbours... and it was uploaded yesterday, thanks :)
É verdade. Nunca mais haverá ninguém com o mesmo talento de James Brown. Curtia e ainda curto até hoje JB. Sou brasileiro , mas sempre admirei as grandes vozes da América do Norte.
This was truly a work of genius! The transition from one song to another was truly awesome! I have the alternate version of this recording, which was two shows earlier. I like this finished product much better!
