My brother and I went to school with Charles. Such an awesome person..everyone was his friend. Sure wish I could see him again here. I'll meet him again in Heaven someday.

this brings me back to my childhood. my granny always had james cleveland playin and this was one of our devotional songs at church.....i'm gettin choked up now listenin to it. amazing....God is so good!!

Rev. Nicks knew he could beat an organ! We would sing this before altar call... folks be all over the place! Good stuff!

This take me back to those days when there were no AC, no carpet on the floors, no microphones, no drums, no bass player, just a piano, just the clapping of hands, just the taping of our feet, and mainly the HOLY SPIRIT.

Thank you Jesus!! It’s 2:46am and I feel like I’m in church. I mean church when I was a child. When this kind of music could and would touch the soul of a child and make tears fall from its eyes. When Men would holla out loud, thank you Lord. Back when women would scream because the fire of the Holy Spirit would get up inside of them. In the days when a church would catch on fire with the Holy Ghost. Thank for this posting.

The lady in the picture between Rev. Cleveland and Rev. Nicks is Pauline Wells Lewis who was affectionately known as Aunt Pauline. She was a pioneer radio disc jockey in Baltimore, Md and the founder of the Marlyand Chapter of GMWA. She was just as powerful in our town as these men were in theirs. Thanks for this classic!

I was driving my work truck and got happy listening to this the way how he is playing the organ and when they start singing at the end it hit my soul

I have the sermon on album. I was blessed to meet Herbert Pickard and spoke to Pastor Roberts by phone. My Godfather is Eugene Smith of the Roberta Martin Singers and the man who write" I Know The Lord Will Make A way"

Rev Charles Nicks could play that organ. The words would just come to you. 😂❤❤

I remember listening to my mothers copy of this in my teenage years, The Song Before Rev. James Cleveland's First Sermon! Glad that Savoy Records gave him Artistic Privileges!

I grew up listening to Herbert Pickard. He was the organist for the Mighty Voices of Thunder out of Greater New Mt. Moriah Missionary Baptist Church. Nobody can do what he does with a piano nor organ.

Rev. Roberts told me the story of this version. Rev. Cleveland was scheduled to preach and was nervous. Pastor Roberts called Rev. Nicks the night before and requested he play something to calm Rev. Cleveland. Herbert Pickard came in thinking the service was over and Rev. Roberts called him up to play. Thus one of the greatest introductions to a sermon ever recorded. By the way the sermon is called "God's Promises" and in all honesty a pretty good sermon by Rev. Cleveland

Indeed, this music bring back many memories, growing up in New Orleans. I remember Donald Richardson and my mentor, Ms. Louise Gable. They could play and make that hammond organ get up, sing, and walk!!!!

I know of no recordings of her on RU-vid, but she was a very accomplished pianist who was also a very gifted concert pianist, but was led to use her great gift in the gospel field.

This was recorded before Rev. James Cleveland preached a sermon called God’s Promises at First Baptist Church Nutley New Jersey. He was very nervous and Pastor Lawrence Roberts asked Charles Nicks to play something to calm him down and the rest is history

Oh Ok, I have alot of albums but none of the albums of Rev. Cleveland preaching. I've heard him preach in person but never had the old ones. This record is on 45

Yeah she did pass in 1996. Do you know of any videos of her here on youtube playing. I've only heard her play on recordings for Mahalia, and never anywhere else. I always wondered what other work she did.

Oh, how great that sounds!! Do you have music from " The Voices of Hope Choir "? I believe Gwendolyn Lightner passed away a few years ago. I believe Thurston Frazier is still alive. I was a teenager when I first heard them. God bless you for providing this wonderful ministry.

James Cleveland, also do the you have the old version of there is no greater love by GMWA MASS Choir i think it came out in the year 1988 or 89 it was the version with just the female singer and a saxephone in the background i miss that version im not to found of the version thats on the 25th aniverssary cd with the male and female solo

Those sad organs aren't played anymore. I haven't heard anything organ since I was a child.
