I had first heard this song sung by Anna McGoldbrick, a guest of a special shown on television called Let's Have an Irish Party. I was deeply moved by the song and the singer but I also love Paddy Reilly's style. I am not Irish but I love their music and their spirit. How sad so many patriots were killed in the 1916 Easter Rising but memories of them will never die.
Jim Connelly, Michael Collins...The Black and Tans...The Easter Rising...Hedgerow Schools...The Great Hunger...so much my father told me... Thank you, machree!
It would be fun if this Irish song in honor of James Connolly, the Irish leader of the anti-British resistance organization Irish Citizen Army was sung by an Irish singer on the talent show "Britain's Got Talent".
The Irish are great people. more importantly, it was the revolution in Ireland that ultematemately led to the fall of the evil English empire. to this day the world suffers the the results of this evil. I love listening to Paddy O'Reilly.
@@johnjohn7415 My search tells me he was born near Edinburgh, Scotland to Irish parents. Even though the family moved to Dublin sometime after 1895 but he still spoke with a Scottish accent all his life. It does remind me of Alf Wight, better known as James Herriott. Most think of him as a Scottsman but he was born in England.
