Communities in the UK? Explain that to me. Do you seriously think that when Liverpool play any team outside of the elite ones that Anfield is full of scousers? Let me tell you, it isn’t. It’s full of foreigners. Football hasn’t been about fans for 20 years. 80 quid a ticket tells you that.

The problem is like a lot of people he is jumping to the whole its only about Greed aspect having totally ignored what the governing body for Football in Europe with the backing of the European League operators and each countries governing body have been trying to do to make them more money off the back of the big clubs who without their revenues for the Champions league would be lucky if its 20% of what it currently is. They choose to ignore the feedback of the clubs and only backed down on their plans to basically create a UEFA super league WHEN rumours about a breakaway emerged and their compromise reform isn't much better which the clubs told them and they ignored. There is a reason why the whole ESL process seems so badly planned and that's because while there is some self-interest it's not just that, its them losing faith in UEFA having the best interests of the game and this being the only card they had to play to either make UEFA listen or break UEFA's hold over European Football

Man, James Cordon deserves an award for this speech. I truly shed a tear because of how much passion went into it. You don't often see this amount of genuineness from him in my honest opinion but it truly hit home. Deserves the upmost respect for saying it on a show in a country that doesnt nearly understand or care about this sport as much as Europe does and it was truly brave of him to do so. The reason these matters should be addressed is because it could happen to any sport in the world, not just football. And how truly devastating it is to people's passions.

What you are talking about is if teams from "Super League" broke off again from the "Super League" to form the "Super Super League". Let me explain it for you. The NFL has 32 teams and nothing else no relegation, basically nothing. Europe has around 100.000 teams in football. From really low tier backyard football to the 1013 professional clubs. And the beauty is that any of those 100.000 clubs, literally any of them, if they are good enough through time and ranking up could someday get promoted to a league which grants them professional status and perhaps someday even win the champions league (which is if you don't know the 32 top teams in Europe from the past season from all countries.) with the only requirement that they play good enough. That's what happens when you have such a perfect system. And what those guys tried is to ruin it with an American-like franchise based closed league where teams can't get relegated or promoted, thus making the dream of your low tier backyard club competing with them someday non existent. It's what this sport is all about. The dream if you and your mates are good enough, you can push your team, your local community team perhaps, to the highest heights. That's what football is about. That's what they tried to ruin. That's what you don't get. And please unless you guys form actual leagues with promotion/relegation don't ever mistake your entertainment frenchises with actual sports or competitions.

Another example is Liverpool. They're about to miss out on playing Champions League next year because they have a bad season. Now they want to be entitled to a big bag of money based on their current wealth. Well... earn it or lose it. How is it that a poor club like Ajax who will never be able to compete with these big clubs financially is able to beat Real Madrid and Juventus? The answer is good management and investing in a great youth academy. Having money is already a too big advantage as it is. Now they want to secure their wealth af the cost of the other 99% of Football clubs and fans

@AlexRN
@AlexRN 3 года назад
Not exactly an appropriate comparison since the MLB, just like the now defunct Super League, is a closed club where only the invited teams can play in. In world football (except the MLS) thanks to the relegation/promotion system ANY team could potentially rise to the top, win their country’s top tier competition and, if they’re in Europe, enter the Champions’ League. If the MLB had promotion and relegation it’d be as if a AAA League team from Birmingham Alabama got promoted to the MLB and won the World Series and the Super League was going to shit can that possibility.

I also don't understand why people can't enjoy both American football and football. I like both competitions, but the NFL/super league idea is not meant to be for 'our' football. What certainly didn't help is that the leading founders of the league were probably the American owners (Liverpool, man United, Arsenal), led by money wolve Perez from Real. I think the other clubs were basically forced to join (although some Italians are most of the time against anything that has to do with an European governing organ, UEFA in this case :) ) I'm happy to be a Bayern supporter, because they would never join. @@blackbox1024 No, they will ruin what it means to actually compete. These are not the best teams. Only the clubs with most money. I am a Real Madrid fan but to me this will be the end of my support for the club. I hope Madrid and Barca fans unite against this disgusting idea. We have to honor the history the clubs share. This is an insult to the fans and to the history of every club joining this shitty league

“What is a club in any case? Not the buildings or the directors or the people who are paid to represent it. It’s not the television contracts, get-out clauses, marketing departments or executive boxes. It’s the noise, the passion, the feeling of belonging, the pride in your city. It’s a small boy clambering up the stadium steps for the very first time, gripping his father’s hand, gawping at that hallowed stretch of turf beneath him, and without being able to do a thing about it, falling in love.”- Sir Bobby Robson This is what dies with the creation of the Super League.

Super League has fallen, that is because of everyone that has voiced their opposition, so thank you James Corden, thank you Mourinho, Klopp and Guardiola, thank you all the players that have used your voice but mostly thank you the anonymous football fan on the street. It is because of you we have shown that the sport is more important than the money.

Mourinho has been known to not get along that welll with quite a number of people, as is the case for many of the most gifted talents both on and off the field, so chances are that despite the suspicious timing this might have been unrelated... we should find out soon anyway

It's probably more to do with the government's response - they were willing to change the laws to prohibit the clubs operating.
@paoloadam
@paoloadam 3 года назад
@@kadensmike8190 Yes, officials in the U.K. and France said they would do everything in their power to thwart the superleague, but neither country could just have prohibited the clubs from operating. Boris Johnson accused the 12 teams of forming a 'cartel' which suggests that fairness-in-business laws might have been invoked, the same that forbid gas companies from secretly agreeing not to sell below a certain price, and prevent huge corporations from buying and integrating all their competitors. In terms of new legislation, a number of countries are considering a law like Germany has, with a so called 50+1 rule, which "states that, in order to obtain a license to compete in the Bundesliga, a club must own at least 50% +1 of its shares". This would protect clubs from ever being controlled by an external investor.

It’s like Alabama, Clemson, Ohio State, Michigan, USC, Florida, LSU, Oklahoma and a few others forming their one NCAA super division and only playing amongst themselves. They have there own network contracts basically taking 90% of revenue and within a few years over half the colleges in America lose all their athletic programs.
@Beginstheman
@Beginstheman 3 года назад
That is an excellent analogy. It would basically mean the creation of a country club at the expense of other clubs and programs. That is why so many people (coaches and players in those clubs) have stood up against that cartel. Dreams are not something that can nor should be bought.

I really wish James had someone on the team to make comparisons like that whilst he was talking. He was so passionate but the audience just didn't care which was heartbreaking. I really wish America would pay more attention to the rest of the world events, it feels like the minute James talks about Europe or further, America shoves their fingers in their ears.
