Sal Mineo grew into adulthood so handsomely... always had screwball curly hair, but that only adds to his adorable character. And he also grew into a smooth, compelling speaking voice..
O m g i wanted to cry watching this video What a wonderful guy sal was very emotional to hear him talk about james dean like he did R i p sal jimmy and nat
Sad and ironic that all three key characters in his famous movie with Dean and Wood would die tragically still young. That film defined a generation of that time.
...exactly like a big public VCR or cable channels for one's own education/inspiration. Growing up with only 3 channels on a black and white TV I never saw rare stuff like this.
youtube really is sick like we’re seeing things those from the past wished could be available at all times we truly live in a time where there’s a virtual time capsule
I was a young teen when Sal was killed, so only became really aware of him after he passed. What an extremely attractive man! How sad he died that way, minding his own business.
+AussieAdam He really does. I'd only ever seen him as a youngster in the late fifties / early sixties. Got much better looking as he got older - quite handsome. Shame he died not long after this interview.
^ I totally agree. I feel as if the older Sal got, the more attractive he got. He was cute in the fifties, but he wasn't hot yet. Once he reached his late 20's, he was gorgeous. That's what I love about him. R.I.P. Sal. :(
My high school art teacher, Mr. Ricks, grew up in Marion, Indiana and went to school with James Dean. Dean was a few years older and would beat him up some in grade school but they were friendly in high school. He said what you saw onscreen was just him. He could be a bit of an oddball, duck out of a party for 2 hours then come back & never say a word about where he went. He said he he didn't remember him being big into the drama club in high school but he did get a part in the one play, senior year, that he heard an agent was coming to and that's how he was discovered, lol. My teacher, Mr. Ricks was a great guy and kindly indulged all my questions about my idol and his classmate. He said Dean wasn't acting, he was just being himself and that's why he found his fame so amusing.😘
@@ignazs.5816 Few actors smoke these days. Smoking gives one a deep, sultry voice. At least for some it does. Some actors smoked on purpose for this reason.
diego bruno Bruno Mmm. Agree with you. Sal would have been one to hold and cherish. I'm sure quite a few did. He was fighting to come back at the time in '76.
Sal's performance in Rebel Without a Cause was memorable. It wouldn't have been the same movie with any other actor. Best Supporting Actor in the film was a shoe-in.
he was really a good looking guy, nice voice and very talented. So sad that he died so young... All three of them died so tragically.. Natalie, Sal and James rest in peace...
WHAT a stunning guy and what a fantastic voice almost give me shivvers...we can never know where he would have gone but I believe in fate and it was meant to be that way, so sad...he looked fabulous and like another comment said very Marlon Brando....
Sadly I heard and read over the years that Francis Ford Coppola was hesitant about auditioning Sal and some others in charge of the film, didn't want Sal cast in the movie! Reasons unbeknown to me, could have been a number of reasons though at that time. Sad because i think Sal would have been really good in The Godfather and would have done it well. To bad.....RIP Sal.........
@@user-od1lw4we2f Damn near everybody had a crush on James Dean. That would be difficult to reconcile. We are not short of film clips and photographs, tho. It was our fortunate gift that he loved being photographed.
An young actor who can speak in an articulate, intelligent way. Some of today’s entertainers can’t seem to grasp these basic communication skills. A face that loves the camera for sure.
I remember the car scene in Rebel when Dean looks down over the cliff into the raging dark water and says, "Yeah. This is the end." He foretold Natalie's horrifying death in 1981 when she was likely beaten and pushed off the yacht into those black waters which she feared the most.
This is a fascinating interview, because it gives us some genuine insight into who Sal Mineo and James Dean were, both very interesting people. So sad how both of their lives ended so tragically, and so prematurely.
Yeah, that's weird thinking of what he might have looked like at 80 years old. He was born in 1939, the same year as my biological mother, who also died young. I can't believe 1939 was over 80 years ago now. 1939 was a very good year in many ways.
Great clip , never heard this one , love Sals voice , and those who worked with Dean say most the same thing about him ,,rip 🙏 😢 💔 Sal , Jimmy, Natalie, Nick , so many greats all gone now , thk you for sharing this GEM 💎 👍
I admire some of these actors from this period. Sometimes, they came from difficult families, had no high education, but were cultured and smart later one. Sal was sporty, distinctive, but also boyish, masculine and sensitive at the same time. He had taste and impressed with his calm manner and his sonorous voice. He analyzed the uptight society back then well and was a brave man!
He was better looking than James Dean. Without question, the most amazing and charming gentleman ever to grace the silver screen! There are two kinds of women in this world...the ones that love James Dean and the ones that love Sal Mineo. I'm a Sal Gal for life!!
I like them both but nobody in the looks department compares to Clint Walker and that body of his.. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-bzTwz2BBhQY.html
Beautiful human being sal was🙏 So talented! So sad to hear him talk about the scene in rebel where he gets killed. Sadly two years later somebody took his life. He's laid to rest back home in New York. R.I.P my brother 🙏❣️
I can only imagine what a powerhouse Sal would have been if he was still alive. I would love to have seen him as Father Karras in "The Exorcist." It would have changed his life, and i think he would have been magnificent! What do you think?
Yes I think there are people who test you and if you stand up to them they respect you. Acutally I don't think this is a nice streak of character. It's better to respect people because they are friendy, kind and nice to you.
How amazing to be with Sal Mineo (or any member of the cast) at the Griffith Observatory at the places where they filmed those great scenes from Rebel Without a Cause.
ken krow You are welcome. I am not sure if you know of my Facebook Page about James Dean. May be you could visit that page someday and have a look at a lot more videos :). I have given a link to the page in this video's description.
Two great early roles for Sal Mineo were in the films Dino and Who Killed Teddy Bear! I saw each one many times in very late night/early morning TV in the sixties. And of course when he played Gene Krupka in his story!
lake fire Also, the character of Plato was supposed to be gay and in love with Jim. Both Sal and James were extremely dedicated actors, plus Sal probably was enthralled with James as a role model.
Sal did also say that if he knew then, that what he felt was live and two men could share love life that, things would have been different between him and Jim.
Yes, Sal was madly in love with Dean but he said that at the time he was too young to understand his feelings for Jimmy. According Nick Ray, Dean fell in love with Sal too. Who knows.
