FOR THE FIRST TIME - COMPLETE EAST OF EDEN HOME MOVIES!!
This video comes from the bonus disc of the DVD documentary, James Dean: Born Cool, produced and directed by Denn Pietro & Denver Rochon. The DVD is available at the Fairmount Historical Museum.
James Dean:Born Cool was the first documentary executive produced by James Dean's cousin and head of the Dean Estate, Marcus Winslow. Because of the tremendous kindness of Marc, the documentary was given access to whatever was needed to put out an honest documentary about Jimmy featuring his closest family and friends.
This rare home movie is being seen for James Dean fans for the first time (except for those who already have this DVD). Marlin Wilson was kind enough to allow us access to the footage he bought and he holds the copyright. He has the world's largest collection of James Dean photos ever gathered and this film footage is part of that collection. By the way, Marlin and his wife, Sandy the Coke Lady, are two amazing, kind hearted people. She has the second or third largest collection of Santa Clause/Coke related items in the world!!
Thank you to Winslow Family, James Dean Artifacts and James Dean Inc.
Thank you for helping to preserve James Dean's legacy!

Even though James Dean wasn't in a lot of the film it was still appreciated. I just enjoyed all of the old stuff. Thanks! R.I.P. James Dean

Julie Harris looks so lovely in these shots. I wished they'd made her look better in the film. She wasn't a stunner but I think they made her look really old in this film compared to Jimmy BUT, she & Jimmy were amazing together on screen.

"There's a picture of the town extras right there" at about 1:07 in - the woman on the right was my aunt! I didn't know she was in the film until I was over twenty. And the thing is - I was in the mini-series made in the early 80's!

Truly Awesome. I have never seen such raw footage of James Dean and 1950's movie magic!

American Film Institute left East of Eden off the list of the 100 best American films of all time. In regard only appear Giant and Rebel Without a Cause. The same happens in other relationships with less prestige but which serve as a reference for many moviegoers as The 1000 movies you must see before you die. I think these selections do not correspond to reality or to think that the general public. East of Eden is the best of the three films and also the best work of James Dean. The actor has worked on over 30 productions on TV and also starred on Broadway, but was in the role of Caleb Trask Dean became a star. His interpretation provocative, innovative and visceral, thanks in part to the text and the direction of Elia Kazan, was a milestone in the history of cinema.

East of Eden is my fave Dean film, although I do not god worship actors. I liked Julie Harris' acting. She was such a natural talent. Younger people, it seems, aren't readers, but I hope one day some might try to read Steinbeck's book. Truly well written, great flow. Expands on the characters in the movie and makes the knowing of more well rounded. Dean was a great actor, of course, and Steinbeck, a wonderful writer. Thanks for presenting behind the scenes of this film.

+Julie Witt Let me share this with you...I have been in USA for the first time in 1969 and you can easily imagine what I was looking for! My "first time" in Indianapolis Memorial Day Race of course! I'm still there....after 50 years! Do you guess what I'm meaning?

Elia Kazan said how much Julie Harris helped Jimmy behind the scenes and during their scenes in this film. Although not a beauty, she has always capivated me with her acting and I don't think this film would have been as good without her in the part. Her empathy was so heartfelt.

@@joycegibbs5267 I also have read so often that Elia Kazan had to literally argue with Jack Warner to have her cast as Abra. Warner didn't think she was pretty and he had not the slightest idea of how that movie could have ever been made without her kindness toward Jimmy. He trusted her and their scenes together especially on the ferris wheel and when he visits her at her window are the most beautiful in the film. I watched the film many times and never realized she was older than James Dean. She was seven years older I think. She was the most understanding opposite love interest and the most mature in helping Jimmy have confidence in what he was doing. I am not giving Natalie or Elizabeth slights in the least. They had enormous number of films by the time they worked with Jimmy but perhaps did not have the maturity themselves since they also were closer to Dean's age. I think they both knew how to deal with him on a positive note but Harris was most likely the strongest helpful influence on him concerning his three films.

People need to remember that these were all beginning actors - not established. So that is why the camera person focused on the movie process and the locals than the “stars”.

James Dean’s MG TD was a 1953 that he purchased in May of 1954 and was red. That’s not his car as described in the video.

Ah, my great aunt lived in Mendocino, CA and she was downtown taking photographs of them when they were filming East of Eden and I actually have 2 photographs of Dean in that greenish/blue colored MG convertible, or at least the car appears to be a blue-green in both images? I always thought the car was silver-ish looking however, I've been color-blind for as long as I can remember and a friend told me that the car looked blue/green to him in the images and that was in 1969. I'm not sure I would want to sell them but perhaps we can discuss some way of copying them without them being at risk of any damage of course. You can contact me via PM (personal message) here on YT.

Bo Hector ...He did purchase an MG in May of 1954, a used ‘53’. However, it wasn’t green or blue, it’s well known that it was red in color.

The narrator must have been used to talking with slow people, he mentions the fact that he collects James Dean photographs at least a thousand times (exaggerated on purpose for effect). I drive on CA HWY 46 quite often and I always stop at the intersection with HWY 41 where James Dean crashed to pay my respects. There's even a little makeshift memorial right there, so I invite you to do the same whenever you can. Thank you and God bless.

Marlin is a great guy and collector who doesn’t normally talk and address an audience so when I asked him to give commentary during the behind the scenes film he owns, he was sort of forced to talk out loud for 10 mins or whatever length this is so I could record the commentary. So I sort of out him on the spot and said, ok start talking lol
