Veronica Daisy- Logan Paul or ? I thought DT at first ... but you didn’t mention inferring that one of the wealthiest Black men in the country is ‘not smart’ upon his announcement that he opened a school and one day after the stabbing murder of an 18 year old girl, on a train platform, made national headlines (-no comment from DT on that of course)
I think that Ann Hathaway is really adorable and funny. James has already given up and his low/sulky energy really zaps the life out of the whole thing.
@@Leader23x I don't see much wrong with it, but the public, the media and even James himself turned on Anne and accused her of ruining this ceremony. So here I am giving James a critique.
I’m so confused how everyone sees a problem with this I thought they did perfectly fine and worked well together…. Literally I’m so lost he isn’t disinterested
@@BrandonChaunceyOfficial I believe they were both making jest at the Oscars producers as they requested Anne and James specifically to host in order to appeal to younger demographics and audiences.
MattMexor I can perhaps see James Franco hosting the oscars if he actually tried but Anne Hathaway isn't known for comedy at all really, she seemed like a really odd choice
The only awards I've ever seen without cringing at the hosts are when Tina and Amy hosted the Golden Globes and Ellen hosting the Oscars (well I cringed a bit at Ellen at some bits...)
how many folks are here after just reading the Entertainment Weekly article, "Writers spill on what went wrong with James Franco and Anne Hathaway's doomed 2011 Oscars gig"..?
@Juan Suero no. If you did your homework on this, she told the Oscar's "no" when they told her who she'd be cohosting with. She told them "no," more than once. Then FRANCO, NOT the Oscar's begged her to co host with him, probably cuz he knew he'd fail up there all by himself! She knew it was a bad idea and STILL handled it professionally! While he didnt.
I thought Anne did the best she could under the circumstances. She was very upbeat and genuinely excited. It's just that the chemistry from the two didn't work. I liked when she said "Used to be: You get naked, you get nominated!" Very funny line and should be amongst the best Oscar quotes.
OK I finally watched this. As an award host, Anne was absolutely 100% perfect in every way, Her style fits the celebratory atmosphere. She was a trooper for staying upbeat, and calm while trying to salvage one of the most dreaded situations an actor could be in - acting with a log. A guy who gave her less than zero. Blaming her for this is absolutely ridiculous.
Yeah I didn't even know this was a controversial performance from her until now, I thought that was the energy you're supposed to bring to a live award show with an enormous crowd... You need to bring enough enthusiasm to charge up the whole crowd, and she had to compensate for him sapping all the energy out of the occasion. If he was playing off her energy I think people wouldn't have had such an issue with her
Anne Hathaway isn't trying "too hard" she's trying period and it actually would come off better if she had someone opposite her that could match her energy. Unfortunately Franco is doing the least.
don't turn it into him being too cool for the oscars. he was nominated and he was happy but he couldn't pull off hosting, which is harder than it looks.
I think Anne is just performing. It’s far more entertaining that what James is doing. He can’t even look at her. She can hide that fact that she hates him and still look in his direction.
What’s screwed up is that Anne said no to doing this and James kept bugging her and bugging her and convinced her to do it with her. She said yes and gave 110% in the meetings, prep and rehearsal. And Franco never showed up to meetings and gave zero effort. And after it was done, she got 90% of the hate for it. James Franco seriously screwed over Anne Hathaway
The biggest problem is that the drugs they took are not in sync. He is obviously super high while she appears to have snorted all of Scarface's cocaine.
I respect Franco for not taking it so seriously. The jokes on the teleprompter are shit. He got high as fuck beforehand, just to get through it. however it wasn't fair on Anne though.
I think the awkwardness comes from the timing / pauses between things. Anne did a great job staying upbeat and cheerful. James felt like he was at the MTV movie awards where he could do whatever and it doesn't matter.
I remember this ceremony and I felt so bad for Anne throughout the night because I did feel she did a pretty good job herself but Franco gave her absolutely nothing. I don't think I remember a host being so disinterested. I mean the most memorable part of the night was Hathaway singing "On my own", which was both hilariously and sadly accurate.
Such a strange awkward duo. I just read from the writers of this particular show all the behind the scenes news of this and it confirms why it felt so awkward that night..... these two had absolutely no partnership and James never bothered trying. He was actually the one who talked her into this and yet she came full on board where as he never tried in rehearsals much or bothered trying to connect with Anne much. Always entertaining reading the background from show creators themselves.
I read a similar article that said that he barely even tried to show up for anything to go over material. They said every time they tried to get in touch with him, he was on a flight.
The fact that they’d never worked together and had no chemistry sure didn’t help. Like if they did this again with Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone it’d be amazing.
Logan S "Pitch red' isn't a thing. People describe black things as being "black as pitch" because 'pitch' is another word for tar. Which isn't red. TMYK!
Johnny Depth Don't you mean "*You're* an idiot"? Lol If you're going to insult the intelligence of someone, at least do it in a intelligent way.. ya idiot.
Anyway, back in 2011 I was very happy to see them hosting😊and if there's any incompatibility between them, it seems to me that along one's career there comes a moment when you get to work on a project with somebody you are not so compatible with, yet, you carry on being yourself, being professional and enjoying the opportunity.
Rita Parduzi So we're hating people because they're genuinely nice people who likes to please others now? Wow, this society is more fucked up than I thought. How about we just admit that we're bitter assholes and hate people for pathetic and petty reasons. Anne is amazing.
최이민 we're hating people who are boring with nothing to offer, yeah. nobody wants to be around someone who just agrees with everything they say. sry for wanting to build friendships with people who actually have a personality haha
Rita Parduzi You do realize that ''hate'' is a very strong word right? Maybe it's because you're on the internet, or you're just fucking dumb, but that is NEVER a reason enough to ''hate'' someone, dislike is even too much. People's personalities are different, who cares if she's a ''people pleaser'' that is a personality in itself, maybe not one that you like but a personality nonetheless, like I said.. how about you stop coming up with petty dumb excuses and just admit that you're a hateful dumb-ass. Next.
This is painfully bad to watch but everyone has to remember, the Oscars have a big team of writers who came up with all this garbage. There's a possibility James disliked the material so much he decided to deny the writers of any honor by not even attempting to play along, thus exposing how shitty the material really was.
"In the last week [before], when we really started focusing on the script for the live show and did a run-through. I said to the producer, 'I don't know why you hired me because you haven't given me anything. I just don't think this stuff's going to be good'." -Franco
Hm. So she is rather perky, but I don't think this should have garnered her hate. Hosts of award shows are always scripted to be corny. It looked extra on her, but that's how hosts always behave. I think her being placed beside him and them having different styles in personality and humor just exacerbated exactly how perky she looks. Let's be honest though, Anne doesn't deserve the hate she gets. You can find her enthusiasm and perkiness annoying.. but to outright hate her for it? Come on. The bandwagon effect is truly real.
Anne Hathaway isn’t hate worthy. She’s obviously a very nice person. There are so many cynical people who hate there own lives that can’t help but hate on someone who is quite obviously loving life. I say good luck to her, I hope to see more of it from more people.
I love them both, but they're not a match to each other... They both great actors, Anne also have an amazing vocal (that scene from Les Miserables gave me gigantic goosebumps every time) and James IMO is also a very funny and sexy guy...
+inb4inb4 He shouldn't have accepted to co-host this then. Making a fool of himself and killing the show for those that wanted to see it is not something to ''love''.
Abac Dervant With all due respect, if others can go on stage and say it's a ''very important night'', he can go up and act like he does not care at all.
+inb4inb4 Your opinion. I can't agree. If you don't care, don't accept to co-host the event / attend the event. Going there just to screw the experience for everyone that enjoys that particular event, is a douche move. I don't like the Oscars myself, but he is supposed to be a decent actor, able to perform at least at an average level when required. His level was under sea level.
So I heard that they did not do well as hosts? Who the eff wrote their lines? Blame them. They were just reading and doing what they were supposed to. Who the eff threw lesbians in their script anyway. Awkward!!!?!

Yeah I didn't think it was that bad Not the funniest but ok Anne was like an excited child and James was like your drunk uncle who barely remembers the next of what you just said 🥴🍺
@@moe2366 nope, the oscars love black people. Black panther even got nominated for best picture this year. Kevin hart was going to be the host this year, he is black.
jjcmark1 I dunno why people gave him some bad reviews in his Oscar hosting. He was great! Would have been irritating as fucked seeing 2 hosts as hyped as Anne Hathaway, was cool having the 2 sides, one calm and "chilled out" lol
