James Gang "Yer Album." One of my favorites. Beats anything Joe did solo or with other bands. Jim F. is a great drummer.

Thank you Joe, Jimmy and Dale for the great show in Columbus this past Sunday night to support our Military Veterans. James Gang is a CLASS ACT. Joe you lived in Columbus for only a short while in the mid to late 1950s but it was great to hear my/our hometown named a street after you and the mild fall weather inspired you to write “Indian Summer” And whenever I find myself on Clark State Road I will recall your history lesson that the city of Gahanna Ohio was founded by your great grandfather named Clark. What a cool story. And Joe hope you have a Happy Birthday on November 20.

I could be wrong, but I wouldnt be surprised if Joe was still using during this period because as a recovering addict myself he just has the look of a man who is out of his mind.. compared to how he looks now or within the past 20 years he truly looks sober and healthy.

@@michaelkavooras7664 good for him, man. He's an awesome guitarist and has such a down to earth personality when I met him. He was very enjoyable to be around compared to seeing him during his using days he was annoying. My parents bought me his star licks guitar tutorial vhs for my birthday back in the 90s and he was absolutely out of his mind during the making of that guitar tutorial to the point I felt like my parents were cheated out of their money. I couldn't believe star licks actually put his episode out because he didn't show how to play any of his licks like when they profile other guitarist on star licks.. he just sat around and was doing weird stand up comedy bits that weren't funny.. You almost feel sorry for i'm watching them in that video. His full star licks episode is on RU-vid if you want to check it out.

As much as Joe was Mad as a box of frogs back then as soon as he straps on that guitar and starts singing it’s like BANG there it is, Absolute God given talent, None of these muppets today could touch him even when he was not in the best shape he still had that Voice, I think he was very Underrated as a Singer and even as a songwriter, he wrote some fantastic tunes especially with the James Gang ❤️👍🏻🇺🇸⭐️🌞

I saw the James Gang on their first trip to NY. They played at Hunter College auditorium in 1970. A small and great place to see bands. We came out of there we left half our hearing ability behind us. They played LOUD let me tell ya. We met them outside after the show. They were begging to impress, and they did.

I believe is was about 1972. I went to the Games Gang concert at the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium. I attended Santa Monica High at that time. Joe had just left the band and the band played on without him. The audience boo'ed at first but calmed down after they started playing. So I almost got to see Joe play. Funny, later in life, Joe became one of my ultimate guitar heroes.

Yeah, just what the Eagles needed: yet another "nice clean guitarist". Micromanaged, LA-approved trash. I'll buy the idea they did it as a favor to him to keep his head out of the toilet, but it sure as shit did his spirit no favors. Joe will tell you the same thing Keef or Clapton will: they were best when they were young and loose and crazy. Doesn't mean you can sustain it, though. Any more than a pro athlete keeps that shit up for very long.

The documentary failed to mention that Joe and 'Foxy' were students at Kent State Univ. where Joe flunked out after a year or so, that they began their career playing the bars in Kent. In fact, the cover photos on 2 of their first albums, 1 with the Kent waterworks in the background and James Gang Rides Again where they asked local biker gang to borrow their hog Harleys for the photo op and we're drunk as usual. Perhaps a recording scout first spotted them at Peabody's in the Flats in West Cleveland but they began careers and gained a following in Kent bars. I know, I was there until 1973. Chrissie Hine(Pretenders) came from just down the road in Cuyaga Falls. Michael Stanley, Tracy Chapman, Devo all came out of the Akron/Cleveland area. Those were the days and we rocked in N.E.Ohio and birthed much musical talent. As with Jack Cassidy & Normal (Jefferson Airplane) who established a music clinic- school at Ohio University in Athens, Ohio...their old stomping grounds. Athens also known for their bad ass Meags County weed.

About this time Joe was spending time in Memphis, TN...perhaps had an apartment there. My brother-in-law was working at the Memphis Commercial Appeal newspaper. It was 2am and he was sent on a food run. He stopped in a Taco Bell near Poplar and Highland and standing in line he noticed a guy semi-passed-out with a burrito hanging out of his mouth. By brother-in-law has always been a huge music fan, and he thought he recognized this man. As he was preparing to place his order he realized the man was Joe Walsh! I just texted him to make sure I recalled this story correctly, and he replied, "I stood in line for 15 minutes and that burrito never moved." I LOL'd and then thanked the stars that Joe got his stuff together, and I'm thrilled to know he's healthy and happy in 2020. A real gift to those of us who love gutsy, soulful guitar playing and unique personalities!
