Henry Cavill's suit is so much a part of him that it's more than something he wears -- it's an extension of himself. Corenswet's suit just looks like a suit. Something he wears. It doesn't help that he's actually adjusting his boot in that first image we see of it.

Cavill has the best suit. Especially his MoS suit and his ZSJL Black suit. They perfectly hug his muscular body, the small details look great, cape flows very nicely, and I love the that ‘S’ style. Just 10/10 suits. David’s is growing in me though. Just wish it wasn’t so loose. As to who will be the better Superman on screen, that remains to be seen

Henry LOOKED amazing in the suit. He OWNED it. He EMBODIED it. But also, the overly designed suit and the 'alien symbol', all that stuff, imo was brilliant. it was an ALIEN suit. It was the coat of arms for the house of El. It represented HOPE, his family's legacy. All of that was fantastic. A shame the scripts couldn't be better though.

The trunks were original designed into so many super hero costumes because it was the "strong man" look of the day in circuses and such. It symbolized strength and power. It also breaks up the color design of the costume as an added bonus.

If snyder was allowed to finish Superman would have become the man of hope everyone wanted. Just no one is patient and want everything there way straight away

I have a different perspective. I look at how it fits the story within the movie. In the Christopher Reeve movie, I believe the suit was made from the blanket that came with him to Earth. So it is a suit a mother made for her son. Consequently it is her earth fashion style. In the Henry Cavil movie, the suit was made by the ship AI. (His Bio father) So the style is based on Kryptonian fashion style and possibly more for function. It might have been a standard survival suit personalized by the AI for the House of El. So there are reasons why the suit looks the way it does within the movie script.

I very much enjoy your content and thoughtful commentary. And, in that spirit, allow me to suggest that with “Dawn of the Dead,” “Watchmen,” “Batman V Superman (Director’s Cut) and “Zack Snyder’s Justice League,” the designation of Zack Snyder as a hack might be a bit hyperbolic. To each, their own, but I think on a visceral level, Snyder has given me a lot of what I had been wanting to see from the DC realm. That’s all. Keep up the good work.

The suit, that Cavill wore…kept changing. The color and style. The intent was to lighten the shade as the character developed…and when the character was the confident and hopeful Superman, we all know and love…then he would be in the brighter shade of Superman that we love. The same idea was to be behind the filter over the entire film. The more character development, the less dark the filter would be… This wasn’t a Snyder decision…this was a Nolan decision. Originally, it was thought that Cavill would be Nolanverses Superman…which, obviously changed…

David in that suit looks more like a live action version of Superboy from Young Justice. They might have shown it like this to make it look like they are still working at it. David might not have the muscle padding under the suit just so ppl will start drama over it. Controversy makes noise and it just might be the case with this photo.

Look. I may be in the minority here, but as someone who loved Henry's run, he got his trilogy. However, there is still that rumor about James Gunn mentioning to Henry about a possible return down the line, after firing him, lol. My guess is some reimaging of Crisis or Injustice, but who knows? This is just the cycle of things, I guess. The new incarnation is never as good as the previous one. Routh got the misfortune of being compared to both Reeve, and later, Cavill. I'm going to advise everyone chill and be open-minded, but I'm not gonna shame y'all if you aren't. I'm just glad to be watching another Superman movie, man. My fingers are crossed that it's successful and I actually get to see Brainiac on the big screen for the first time. 😄

Snarky I like the Instagram filtered look for the Snyder-verse. It gave those movies a cool aesthetic kinda like Alex Ross art, it was a nice appeal & one of the best things for those movies. Also MAN OF STEEL was the best Cavil suit. Raimi suit & Cavil’s suit are peak. James Acheson was on one! 💯

I don't know if you just said it for the sake of the joke and you know the real reason behind the trunks, but just in case, their point was to emulate the look of circus strongmen, which were still a thing during the 30's when Superman was created.

The bulkiness of this suit reminds me of Captain America: First Avenger suit. But that was supposed to be bulky because it was a WW2 army uniform. Maybe this is some sort of Kryptonian version of that? I won't knock it until I see the final product. Miss Cavill, but as a DC fan, I hope this does well, despite superhero movie fatigue.

Henry Cavil is hard to beat as Superman. I don’t think it is possible for cornsweat appear more like Superman than Cavill. I just hope the Gunn movies can make up for the huge loss the franchise took with the loss of Cavill. I get he wanted to restart and disassociate from the Snyderverse, but Cavill was too iconic of a Superman not bring along. Cornsweat looked like a better looking guy in the early photos I saw. He looked fat go in the face to me. Prob a result of the bulking up; but hope the muscle didn’t cost him his face. Plus we were told that the replacement was partly due to Cavills age; Cotnsweat looks to be around the same age as Cavill in that new picture. I was angry about loss of Cavill. I was worried but hopeful about Cornsweat and his look as Superman. And now I’m really worried. If my worries turn out to be well founded then I’ll furious bc it was obvious to everyone but Gunn that Cavill should remain as Superman. And not due to nastslgia: Loved Cavill as Superman Loved Afleck ad Batman Hated Adams as Lois Ok with Gadot as Wonder Woman Disliked Miller as Flash Disliked as Aqua Man Disliked as Cyborg Ok with Leto as Joker Hated as Alex Luther.

I agree with her when it comes to Henry Cavil's suit. His suit colors were too dark but the fit and make up were on point. Henry Cavil played the role so well. Imma miss that guy as the Man of Steel.

Siegel and Shuster based Superman’s look on an old fashion circus strongman. So as much as the external underwear looks dated, it’s a nice nod to tradition, and there’s nothing wrong with that.

The origin of wearing underwear on the outside. In the 1930's, the most popular athletes were the professional wrestlers. The first comic book superheroes were modeled after professional wrestlers who all wore underwear on the outside. It is not really underwear, not sure exactly what it is called, but wrestlers, acrobats, and trapeze artists all dressed like that, and they were the inspiration for comic book characters.

Here's my issue with Superman and bulk. We're talking about it being the can bench press planets, so how in the world does being that strong managed to build up that kind of bulk? He could have weights made of condensed matter from the heart of a black hole, but wouldn't there still be an issue of these weights gravitational mass? Don't roast me for my lack of knowledge of physics. It's just a question being asked for the sake of this conversation. Basically, what it boils down to is how would a Kryptonian build up that kind of muscle mass in Earth's gravity?

Physicality wise both actors are jacked, so that will not be an issue...and they could pass for siblings. The muted colors definitely don't work well either. As for the trunks...they just need to be deleted forever. Pair the trunks with a collar and the suit comes off as ridiculous. Unmute the colors of Cavill's suit and add a larger belt to break up the blue...Gucci.

The Snyder suit looked organically alien an other-worldly-yet regal an royal, and story-wise they show that it’s like a chain mail-ish under suit to kryptonian armor, the Gunn suit looks…more akin to a cosplay or a 3rd-tier CW suit, More so than the Tyler Hochelin suit on the current CW Superman show. Plus, the texture looks like a basketball.

Rebel Moon aside, Zack Snyder is far from a hack. He's one of the most visually dynamic filmmakers of our time. 300 was brilliant & had a big influence on the industry. He just has a very unique sensibility, & makes what he's passionate about. I've liked or really liked the majority of his films. Put some respect on Snyder's name. The man gave us Man of Steel, the most underappreciated comic book movie ever IMO...

Just figured it out. The new Superman's suit is the Star Lord's jacket with a cape and body suit. Took me a few days.

I feel like something dated/old fashioned is exactly what the world needs today, happy we get the trunks back.

It sounds like you just want the comic-style BRIGHT COLORS... period! But as an artist & animator myself, I GET why they muted the colors and I AGREE with the toning down the brightness... WHY?? Because all you have to do is LOOK AROUND!!! No matter WHERE you look, you RARELY see bright colors in the REAL WORLD. So if you're trying to take a FICTIONAL character and make it MORE BELIEVABLE, then you DO NOT put OUTLANDISH COLORS on them. Muted colors & dirty suits keeps the character IN LINE with reality, makes the character MUCH more relatable & believable, and therefore... makes the movies more enjoyable. I mean, if you REALLY think about it, these Superheroes would be FILTHY, DIRTY, SWEATY & FUNKY in real life, and that was one of the things that made SPIDERMAN more believable & beloved. Because in the comics, he was ALWAYS talking about how funky his suit was and sneaking around the house to wash it without Aunt May seeing the suit in the washer. All of that made him one of the most beloved characters in modern history... it made him.. a HUMAN with FLAWS & body odor! lol HOWEVER... in the comics & cartoons, the brighter colors DO make the characters more believable, because those worlds are always depicted in BRIGHT VIBRANT COLORS!! Why??? Because those BRIGHT COLORS attract the attention of the children, whom the cartoons & comics were marketing to. Kids spot those neon colors from halfway across a store and go RUNNING to them!! lol.. Because bright colors = COMICS & CARTOONS!!! Soooo.. that's why they do muted colors in cinema. ✌😎

Henry Cavill is actually passionate about the characters he plays and wants to do them justice, from Superman to Geralt. Who knows how much David will do justice with this Superman.

Judging by thirst factor, the Snyder suit had no collar so Cavill had more of that necc out for the ladies... I do like the Gunn suit and IMO, I don’t think the lines/seams make it look too MCU-ish because those Marvel suits are sooo outrageously busy-looking in comparison.

I gotta agree. The underwear on the outside look is really dated. Cavill's suit looks better imo because of that. Also, Marvel changed Wolverine's "classic" costume to get rid of the black underwear on the outside in Deadpool & Wolverine. I haven't seen anyone crap on the costume from that movie, and a big part of what makes it look good is NOT having that dated look.

Everything about Cavill, the suit, his portrayal, and presence ....it will always be tough to do better. Honestly, if DC had gone FULL in on him -- they would have won the Comic Book Movie wars. Henry could have totally carried that franchise. Too bad writers and plot failed him. Edit: "He lost the ability to be a symbol of Hope because Zack Synder wouldn't let him be." This statement right here. That's the encapsulation of what happened. Imagine if he had let him?

As a comicbook guy I still wish they would use John Byrnes Superman. The suit looked great and the writing was perfect. Cavil started off good but he started to come across as miserable man and not a symbol of hope . The suit was typical Snyder in that it was dull in color. I'm not crazy about the Cornsweat suit but I'm not going to really judge him until we have seen a trailer. Reeves is still the best Superman to me but I'm old .

Superheros wear undies over their trousers because when superheros were created the first time, the only larger then life people knew were strongmen at the carnivals and circus artists. Those were wearing shorts over their skin tight costumes for practical reasons. So when you saw a guy in a comic book with a skin tight costume and undies on top, you instandly recognized him as a person with extraordinary physical abilties.

I love Henry Cavill and I wish he got his fair due as Superman. His Superman would've thrived without Snyder.

We need to see David’s suit in the actual movie. The photo was taken on set in between scenes and had nothing to do with the film. He was literally putting the boots on for a scene he was about to do. I’m excited for this because we’re going to get a Superman and Clark Kent that actually is Superman and Clark Kent and not some melodramatic grimacing brute that had no character development through three movies. Henry Cavill looked cool, but had none of the uplifting charismatic traits of Superman and none of the traits of Clark Kent Also, the colors are not muted on David suit. If you look closely, there’s battle damage and burn spots and worn spots on the suit.

I agree with snarky about Henry's suit because I haven't seen anyone that looks more like superman than him. I won't lie I got a little jealous when snarky mentioned crushing on Henry lol. I think snarky should be hired as writer producer and or director because she has all the knowledge wisdom and passion when it comes to knowing the DC characters and I feel she would give us a picture perfect DC movie.

The closest approximation I can make is Henry's suit looks more "grown up", while David's is more "kiddie", and the trunks are the primary culprit. I really don't have any faith in Gunn's ability to create as compelling a Superman as Cavill. I never gave a shit either way about Snyder until I saw MOS. I avoided the BVS theatrical release altogether because of the word of mouth, and only ever saw the Director's cut, both films I loved. Then I caught Wheadon's JL and was thoroughly disgusted. I thought the the Snyder Cut was phenomenal, and for the most part I was really looking forward to what he had planned for JL 2 & 3. I

It think it's too early to judge Corenswet, we should wait till the movie comes out. Cavill was amazing as a dark Superman and I think he could've nailed a more lighthearted take, just needed a good script to work off of.

Agree with you on brighten the colors, LOSE THE TRUNKS FOR CRYING OUT LOUD., and that coming from a Christopher Reeves guy. Get the S right not like on Superman returns where it was clearly to small. I prefer the Chris Reeves build, because muscles aren't what makes Superman strong. And if ever saw the picture with Chris in the Man of Steel suit I think that's the best look for Superman and of course just brighten it , change the shiny texture to more of a soft blue and bingo that would be pretty close to what I would like the Superman look to be. The underwear on the outside had nothing to do with nuts. It was based on circus strong men. They wore tights with trunks on the outside. That is why a lot of early super heroes had that. It was synonymous with being strong. However as times changed so didn’t what we considered strong.

Cavills' suit was pretty cool for the most part. I agree that it was too dark. But my biggest problem with it were those stupid black designs at the sides of his midsection. Tyler Hoechlin's suit in Clark and Lois is like a much cooler version of the Cavill suit, although it's also too dark.

Zach snyder started Superman as not a symbol of hope. He wanted Cavill to grow into the role over the next courses of films. Then become that beacon of hope. before Man of steel Most of the previous superman films have been molded. Basically the same as Christopher reeve which I have no problem with. He was my first superman film I ever saw, but as you get older you want something a bit different.

I normally agree with you, but I like the trunks personally, yeah they are outdated but that’s kinda the point, weirdly they have kinda come to serve as a reflection of what the character is and what he represents and believes in. I’m still kinda take ‘em or leave ‘em but I do think they have some kinda cool symbolism and I like that

According to another who spoke about the new suit was that after battling with S' enemy with the sun not shining as it should, he began to weaken and shrink down thus making the suit look baggy on his frame. Hopefully that is the case, otherwise, it would be a shame to see him throughout the movie with him in a loose-fitting outfit indeed.

Ah, agreed, I'd even say Henry's suit is my favorite of all the live action super man's so far and I think I've seen just about everything in that regard. It's just never really transitioned as well from the cartoons & comics to the big screen for me anyway.

As an argument on the Trunks issue I don't see it as dated, I see it as it's a matter of showcasing the classic strong man look and in Superman's case shows the lighthearted nature of his character as a symbol of hope and friendly demeanour. Plus it breaks up the color balance with the red trunks and yellow gold belt. The Onesie look is more of a way of current day saying that he's looks like a dork with his undies out, so were gone go full spaceman with him. Cavil does beat out Cornsweat in terms of costume design though.

He dark colored siut theme denotes the time when Reeve's Superman iteration was influenced by the red/black kryptonite... everything about him became distirted and tainted by a "darkness" shown in the suit itself being stripped of its bright colors

You should have compared Brandon routh's kingdom come costume with corenswet's suit. That would have been much better.

The Corensweat suit looks marvel like it looks almost canvas. Closer to the Guardians 3 team costume, or First Avenger Captain America suit. All the lines at the knees, forearms, shoulders and chest make it look like it needs to have stitching marks in them. Motorcycle gear is exactly right.

Here's a thing most guys aren't realising. Its that Gunn is trying to portray Superman more like a human but not like a God. And like most human beings Gunn is trying to make the character evolve, learn from his mistakes, improve his character and give us "Hope". Even if it comes to his suit which I assume will be get upgrades in future. And to be honest the suit is still not cgi'ed yet and just for a reffernce Cavil suit would look like a blue body condom without any effects. Just give this new face a chance if you really care about superman.

You totally got it, the Snyderverse wasn't perfect, but his characters were... cast choice (except for Ezra), suit desing, and everything... the holy trinity just looks right, Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman just look like they are the characters, and thats never going to be beaten...
