This song with the guitar, flute and the horn players was totally amazing. The sound recording for being live is also amazing. What a song and what great musicianship.
I miss my grandpa 😭😭😭 ( Derek Watkins ) he meant the world to me , and I was only 6 or 7 when I found out he had died , and I cried for 2 days , but I'm happy people still listen to his music 😕😕
Spencer Melham Thanks for sharing that. Derek was a wonderful person and an incredible talent. I met him and was proud he came from my home town, Reading. He went to my school.
He was one of my best friends all over the world! I known him about the Orchestra of James Last! I was Bus Driver from the Orchestra and I play Trumpet for Hobby in an Normal Orchestra and I loved him all Time for Mr. LEAD.! My plesure for your Grandpa all Time in my Live
James Last was a genius musician. A mastermind - like a wizard made musical reconstructions with the bands. The instrumental arrangement productions and multi-colored melodies played by the Orchestra are eternally remembered master pieces. I listen to James Last's everlasting music almost every day and I love it. Malka Smith 17/11/2017
This was actually done ORIGINALLY by American jazz artist Chuck Mangione in 1978 for the soundtrack of the movie of the same name starring Anthony Quinn.
Don George Was refering to Mangione...as long as I have live in Rochester and known him, he, his brother and his parents lived in Rochester. Parents had a great bakery near the baseball stadium and Chuck lived up the road about 2 miles. But...might have moved from "up north"
Hey thanks for the comment - it makes it all worthwhile :) Bob is on quite a few of my clips - just look them out. I've met a few of the band but never got the chance to meet him. Thanks again.
I'd like to give a shout out to the dude who posted this vid.! It's the first vid. I've evr seen with Bob, and o'course all the other guys were fantabolous, but I've really serched for a vid wit Bob.! If anyone has the opportunity to get a masterclass wit 'im you'd really enjoy't, he's an amazing teacher, and an equally amazing person.! So once again, thanks for the post, and please post more wit Bob if you've got i'!!! :)
Big Jim Sullivan and Jimmy Page played on the majority of the UK 1960 pop hit records. In the late 60s Big Jim became Tom Jones's guitarist. I'm not sure what happed to "Little" Jimmy.
That's Hakan Nyquist. I think they are all just putting a different signature to their respective parts - he's a very accomplished player, but of course, Derek shines through as always!
Perfection and great Thanks for SuperLast for this video of Hansi. We had linked it on the official Forum of Hansi, it's right ? Jean-Pierre (Co-Moderator on the official Forum of James Last)
@@superlast Thanks. I was asking because there's a long history of band leaders in different genres delegating arranging to one or two favoured members ( simply to lighten the load). I was wondering especially with the JL orchestra because they made so many commercial recordings I was thinking initially he couldn't have done all of them himself!
@@phillipecook3227 JL did have a phenomenal output! At one time up to two albums a month! But he started as an arranger for other people so that helped. He used to arrange the music using computer programs and print out the scores and send them to his musicians. This kept costs down with rehearsals. At one time the orchestra and singers were made up of 40 people with 17 different nationalities!
@@superlast Amazing. I didn't know he'd been an arranger for other people but as you say his output must've been prolific to sustain the huge number of recordings issued. It's a shame nobody thought to make a documentary of his life while he was still around. What happened to his arrangements? Who owns them now? Are they even around? I suppose no JL tribute band ever been tried?
That's true, every trumpet shows it's own style. But Bob Lanese is the best player for that style. He is specalised in Jazz. Dereks sound is too hard for this song and flugelhorn. But so different they are, that makes the sound in all! :)
