In this powerful episode of the James Loud Podcast, we are joined by Luke Scarmazzo, author of "High Price" and a passionate advocate for justice reform. Luke shares his emotional and gripping story of starting a state-legal medical dispensary in California in the early 2000s, only to face a 21.8 year sentence in federal prison due to conflicting state and federal laws. His journey, which began with aspirations of participating in a burgeoning industry, took a dramatic turn, leading to a decade-long battle behind bars and a fight for policy reform. Luke's story is not just about personal trials; it reflects a broader struggle for legal consistency and social equity in the industry. This episode promises to be an eye-opening and deeply moving account of resilience, change, and the ongoing quest for justice in the face of adversity. Luke's firsthand experiences and insights are a must-listen for anyone interested in the complex interplay of entrepreneurship, law, and advocacy.

Luke is a good friend of mine, we became close bc we were both young when we got locked up and got long (22yrs for him and 25yrs for me) sentences. We worked out together, I’ve met his family. While the hardest struggles were happening we fought our battles together. I’m so glad people are meeting this great human and learning his story

This hit me hard! My brother got 20yrs for running a couple hundred pounds from Texas up to Kansas City MO. He would front it out and he ended up getting ripped off and his source told him he could pay it back by doing these runs and he got busted 😢. He is out now and got his life back.

Bringing me back to dub sacks on Minnesota Avenue DC. In 2004 or 05 I saw like a 150 police car raid on all of Minnesota aves weed dealers....I had a skateboard and just skated away lol. Crazy. That's where you could literally always get brick weed...tons of open air markets still here in DC Baltimore area

The dude from Hortipharm in Santa Barbara went down. Then all the clubs followed in town. So many clubs were wrongly raided and shut down.

It's so messed up they tossed this man in jail for this long. If the gov had an issue with the states laws, they should of gone after the state law makers, not a small business owner. They looked past a thousand men in suits and singled out one guy. Furthermore, idk what Cali could of done at the time but they really should of protected their citizens... Otherwise, whats the point of the state? Whats the point of them taking the tax money? I'm sure they loved the extra revenue.

How can anyone that is a prosecutor or judge do this to a non-violent drug offender.?? Karma will come for them I hope.. they owe this man more than they can ever give.. these feds are scumbags...

He wasnt even a drug offender and thats wake makes it worst imo. He had a state approved licensed shop. The sad thing is tthe people responsible don't care. They will probably pass away of old age eating cheesecake and sipping bubbly sparkling water. The amount of herb they smoked while people like this guy sat in prison is so gross to think about.

Shout out to Luke and all those who’ve been locked up over this plant. Perfect example of how there can be no peace until they stop locking us up and free our brothers and sisters still behind the wall due to the war on drugs. Especially Cannabis. 🦾💯
