I'm surprised he didn't take a moment to carefully replace his "Ruler, One Meter, Steel" back onto its labeled shelf in his workshop. He didn't break out his velvet-lined box of labeled calipers, either. I wonder what he named them?

I don't care about cars, but I love May's LOVE and knowledge of cars. Always a delight to watch, and doubly so with you two - From a fellow South African Roamer (orig Cape Town, now in the Uk after Thailand for a few years)! One thing he did not mention, being a tech head myself, is just how open to hacking the original model Tesla's are, and the debugs for the later models are starting to come in for the Z Flipper - nm if the Tesla wireless jumped onto a network a malicious actor controls. How to start a car when the start code is corrupted = insane. Apol for length!

My cousin has one and it got keyed all the way down the driver's side door and rear door on that side. Amazingly, all they did was sand it out, then buff that until it matched the rest of the car. You can't even tell. I think they basically did a slight touch up and buff to that whole side of the truck to make sure it all matched perfectly, and got it as close as possible if not spot on with the rest of the vehicle. So there's no way to tell no matter what. Since there was no primer and paint, it only cost him $650 out of pocket for the whole thing. I think there is a clear coat, but I could be wrong. It's a fun truck I will say that. Maybe someday when I'm made of money :)

The last episode of The Grand Tour is one part, but it's REEAALLYY LLOONNGG to make up for it. It's over two hours! I had to stop it halfway because we needed to go to bed, and I didn't think that we needed to set aside more than an hour to watch it. I drive about 240 miles a day starting at 0630, so I can't be up past midnight or so.

I quite agree Ash... Curves are better... My 19 year old nephew built himself a 1967 VW Beetle and I have a 1948 Plymouth Special Deluxe... Both very curvaceous cars. Thanx for sharing! ✌️😎👍

There were advantages and disadvantages of having a VW Beetle in a Canadian winter. The advantage was good traction in the snow, due to the motor being over the back wheels. The disadvantage, with the one I had, was the heater. I had to scrape ice off the inside of the windshield in order to see sometimes.

For those of us who are die hard original people we feel cars need to be preserved as manufactured for future generations to see as built. Especially if they were from new low production and many had succumbed to the elements as time passed.

A lot of modern cars, the pedals are fly by wire with artificial feedback. Been that way since the 2000s.

The accelerator on most cars for a long time have not been connected to the engine. They have a throttle position sensor.

Virtually every commercial airline is fly-by-wire and has been for a long while. A lot of new land vehicles are also drive-by-wire with no mechanical backup.

Dave off topic but I wish you would consider the following to react to. Swamp buggy racing from Naples Florida. And Rock bouncers. these are pipe frame, or chassis may be a better word 4x4's with four-wheel steer and massive V8 engines designed to climb cliffs. although they do fall backwards off of those cliffs a lot. It’s a truck. It’s normal that it gets scratches, scrapes and dings. It’s stainless steel, it’s not going to rust. Steel is harder than the brass that keys are made of. Someone keys it, they will likely just leave a yellowish streak of brass where their key got worn down a bit. So it will buff out

the steering makes me think of Whistlindiesel who had the computer failing and no steering. It becomes literally a brick. If one of the most famous car journalists in the world asks for a drive, you'd be stupid to deny it as a car company. Even if there are some ancient hard feelings. Never mind people would just lend him oen if he asked for it.

I still do not get the fuss over Tesla, their cars are so poorly made and ugly. I still do not know why they refuse to put the dash in front of you and not off to the middle. At the very least they can do one of those HUD things in the windshield.

Elon's not doing any car designing or anything. I doubt he could replace a part on a car.
