Funny, but true. The Tourist, After Earth, Last Airbender, Lady in the Water, Village, Green Lantern, Postman, Waterworld. And a good chunk of his best work is from not-so-good movies. Its as if the quality of the movie forced him to raise his game so he salvages the viewing experience somewhat.
This scene in the movie legitimately made me think: "Wow... who did the music for this movie?!" I was paralyzed, mesmerized, and almost brought to tears.
No matter what life throws at you, flow like water; absorb and transform every impact into one harmonic flow. Move on without exploding, without friction, accept changes and be calm. A message from water translated beautifully into a song.
This is so damn epic. Really, one of the best heroic compositions I have ever heard. Howard has absolutely outdone himself on this one and it is a shame the movie itself is so lacking.
I first heard this song on the movie “ The Last Airbender” . It had me feeling like WOW as tears flowed down my face. I can’t stop listening to it. Gives me a peaceful feeling!
This was such a powerful, awe-inspiring moment in the entire film and the music made it. The single best moment. It reminds me of the three big water moments at the end of new Disney movies. Well done again, Howard.
JNH is up there with John Williams and Jerry Goldsmith as far as the spectrum and depth of their work. This is so awesome to read and meditate to. Thanks.
James Howard Newron is a genius. This movie should be a trilogy. It looks like a short cut from something bigger. :( Decision to put everything in the one film was mistake. I do not think that was a director decision.
Omg this is so beautiful! Cried several times and it's so epic and emotional! James Newton Howard is a god! Can't get enough of his music. All his scores are amazing 😍
Lucky me… I had the pleasure to meet Mr. Newton Howard in person :)… What a great composer and also what great kind of human being. Great attitude towards live and his family… Simply incredible… His music is just incredible :)
danny55531 He gave a concert in Vienna, Austria. I was co-working on some of the music preparation for this particular concert. I prepared the layout of the score and parts, printing all the sheet music and proofreading for mistakes such as wrong notes or missing accidentals and stuff. It was really really bussy but i learned so so much i tell you. (flows like water was among the tracks performed that night) for our orchestra. He also gave a masterclass and i was also part of the hosting crew, picking him up from the airport, driving him to the hotel, to the rehearsal stage and stuff. It was great experience because i also got to know his son and his wife. It was crazy, it really was. I felt so humble just being around him (and others such as conductor Keith Lockhart and rnb singer brian McKnight). And they are sooo humble, no trace of arrogance or rudeness, really heart-warming and wise people. Only brian was slightly more introverted but i guess because he was meeting with phil collins and had lots of projects at same time he told me. Go for it, man listen to the composers that inspire you and don't every think you're too young or too old or whatever. Just do what you love and be ready to work hard to get your career going :)
This piece is like the energy needed to make the world flow. A beautiful song channeled to us about our past present and future as telling us not to worry, what will be, will be. It is our destiny no matter who we are or where we come from.
I just heard this for the first time on a classical station and was riveted by it. So glad they had a 'What's that Song?' feature on their page, it would have haunted me forever without knowing its origin.❤
This was a great composition for an avatar adaptation, the style and everything was perfect. Howard was right on the money with his music. Everything else about this movie though made me sick to my stomach.... What a waste of great music and incredible source material.
I wouldn't say it's so stylistically on-brand, but most cultural nuances got erased in the film. I mean, considering it's a film with barely any non-western cultural influence, yes this is a very good piece for it.
Eu entendo profundamente como se sente, tem dias que são assim mesmo "péssimos", e as musicas, de alguma maneira, nos mantém distante desses momentos - mesmo por breves instantes.
You can think your on top of the world and life is bursting all around you. A new start is happening. New baby birds , new seedlings, grass sprouting and massive whales come to eat.
i dont care about the movie, but the soundtrack is significant, my god the goosebumps! unbelieveble how beautiful this is! guys check out the hunger games soundtrack if u didnt already!
