James, you may never read this. I’ve watched and financially supported you in the past. I’m a 70 year old Baptist from the south. You know as well as I do what would have happened in the 1960s to Morris in the church. Both of my pastors growing up were WW2 combat vets and kind good men of God. The men of the church would have dealt with Morris in a way that wouldn’t be politically correct today. We’ve gotten soft and stupid in the church. Many leaders think the congregation is gullible, stupid and we are a cash cow so than can personally get rich selling books. I’ve bought lots of y’alls books. I tell you right now that I’m done with Christian merchandise like it’s QVC. I’m reading the Bible and only that. I’m using my money to help poor people near me and stop sending money off pirates in the pulpit. I pray you are telling the truth. In the years you have left, please do all you can to clean up this mess. It absolutely has done damage to the image of the Christian church in America for many people

Anyone who abused a child should be in jail period!

Robert Morris should NEVER have been placed back into ministry, even after a 2-year "restoration process". He was Biblically permanently disqualified from being a pastor/elder. Who is responsible for allowing him back into ministry in the first place?

The chances of Cindy being the his only victim is slim to none.

This news of what Morris did and the coverup has been devastating. I am someone who followed his ministry and supported it and I feel so confused and deceived. It has also triggered a lot of pain from my childhood having been molested. Our faith is not in men but only in God. My faith and walk with God is strong, however, this has shaken me about the church and pulpit. I can't imagine the damage it has done to reinforcing people who have no faith and call christians hypocrits. Lord have mercy on us all. In the last days there is a falling away of the righteous and the love of many wax cold. With so many leaders exposed for sexual sins, maybe we are seeing this prophecy fulfilled.

Moral failure what a sanitized term

Question is, as a pastor and leader in the church, why didn’t you make it your business to get the details of the moral failure? Even if it were a grown woman he should have been disqualified for ministry. By your words, you knew about it then, knew it was covered up as it was not exposed to anyone but the “higher ups”, but did nothing.

Regardless he never should have gone back into ministry.

I was sexually abused by an uncle when I was a lot younger her than Cindy. No one in my family believed me when I remembered it in my mid to late 30’s. The only thing I wanted from my living parent was a @“I’m sorry that happened to you. Can I give you a hug? Then have that parent acknowledge they believed me and loved me. That was the only thing my living parent could not do. Listening to Cindy and hearing the tears and anger at what happened and what it meant as an adult brought back many memories. My prayer is that the Church as a whole and the Pastor involved can acknowledge what happened happened and support with love and where needed forgiveness for everyone involved in this and any cover up. As an abuse survivor, acknowledging what happened happened is a big deal. My prayer for Cindy is she gave forgive in time the Pastor involved. It took me 8 years to forgive my perpetrator with the help of counseling. But I did and my life goes on free from it now. I’ve been through 2 sessions of RTF and 3 sessions of a Freedom Group and every time I was healed by God a little bit more. This last one brought final healing over my childhood memories and I’m free to enjoy and live my life as God continues to lead me.

The victim said that she reached out to church elders but to no avail. All i can say for the big tv church minister's God seems to be cleaning house.

Excuse me. If you helped somebody get restored but you don t actually know from what....what was the stinking process because it is supposed to have a confession phase. Also if you vouch for each other but don't really know each other then its just marketing tactics. The church and its charisma....a terrible thing.

Why did you not know the girls age? This should be an important fact. You are not qualified in any way to counsel or lead. Leaders know these important facts.

It’s unacceptable that this story is coming out 42 years later and Morris has been surrounded by people who should’ve had discernment.

No pastor who has had a “moral failure” involving sex should ever be “restored” to ministry. That is a lifelong disqualification.

Lies lie lies !!! There are newspaper clippings of Morris as an associate Pastor for Robison’s ministry . Morris did not step out of ministry for 2 years . He went to work for Robison.

Something like this should disqualify a person from that position for LIFE...

Do you have sex predators in your church? How can your child be safe in the house of the Lord? When you have elders that will hide information from you.

Why was Morris allowed to continue in the ministry when he admitted to his "moral failure?" He should have been gone, and the age of the female has nothing to do with it outside of the fact that his 'moral failure' is now a crime that needs to be prosecuted.

This has to stop in the church too many people have been complicit by staying quiet and protecting these people in leadership positions who abuse others. There must be more accountability in the church and less cowardice and protection of the criminals perpetrating the abuse

He should have stepped down, their are strict qualifications for being a Pastor. In 1st Timothy 3, a man above reproach. Yes, be restored in the body of Christ, but not the pulpet!

The fact that he knew about any "moral failure" should have been enough for them to not allow Robert Morris to lead as a pastor. I was married to an extremely abusive pastor 30 years even raped with a battery charger but the church said I needed to be more submitful. After numerous affairs he left me penniless for a wealthy woman to advance his missions ministry Still the church organization A/G did nothing to compensate all the abuse sexual emotional verbal physical ( beat til I could not walk for days) and mental abuse. It is very sad how men who are allowed to be pastor's can abuse manipulate gas light and torment people yes even black mail but only a few are exposed and confronted. At 65 years old I have seen more sin in churches and their leaders than what Pastor Morris has done and no one stands up for the abused families or victims. It saddens my heart that this has happened and I hope someone helps restore the victim of this situation because there are thousands of unheard victims still needing to know they were not the problem or loved less by God. I believed I was unredeemable after hearing it for 30 years until I realized God did not create me to be the escape goat and to be abused. I hope the real men of God actually stand up in deeds and not just words. Words do not erase years of abuse but loving on someone in deeds standing with them and rebuilding them . No one helped me or cared to help rebuild me that is why my heart is heavy to see others rebuilt and loved.

He needs to go to jail! Him being a pastor does not make him above the law! If he was just an average Joe he’d be prosecuted! It wasn’t my moral failure it was rape let’s just call a spade a spade! All this PC talk is sickning!

I guess Robert Morris good friend was wrong? When he said Robison knew and one of the elders knew it was a 12 year old girl....Robison allowed Morris on his staff during the so called 2 year restoration process....Including some preaching...other sources say....sounds like they are distancing themselves from Morris and affiliates...to preserve damage to their own affluent ministry cash flow. Time will tell.

No matter what whether you were there or not, you knew about the situation and you allowed him to be your pastor for many years knowing what he had done and yet nobody suggested that he stepped down according to scripture because he was knocked above reproach so you didn’t stick to scripturethat is the part that is hard for people to understand

Robert Morris did much good in leading a way for real true Gospel teaching. One of his personal heroes was the great Pastor Jack Hayford. His Gateway church made itself available for the Seminary that Pastor Jack formed, and was its first Chancellor. Nevertheless, I personally had a slight discomfort whenever I saw Pastor Morris preach. Never did I suspect, even the smallest “moral failure”. Am I spiritually dull, even blind!? No, the Holy Spirit guided only a gentle turning away. A quiet resistance to the yielding of my heart. No more, no sense of “danger” no condemnation…Why is this just being brought to light now? Why did the LORD not forbid Pastor Roberts restoration to the pulpit? Why have blessings been allowed to flow unhindered from this Church? Perhaps, the Holy Spirit has spoken answers to these questions to someone, and it will be revealed. However, it suffices to say, Christ, and His Church is now, and always has been a refuge for the deepest of sins! Restoration through repentance is its main promise! “And so we’re some of you” Paul tells us. Paul himself was a man with Christian “blood on his hands.” There is nothing deeper, or further than God’s forgiveness! “If God be for you, who can be against you; if God be for you, what can mere man do?” This is true for Cindy, as well. Nothing has ever been withheld, or beyond healing, and restoration for her. Nor, for Robert Morris! All can be made whole for the congregation, too. Satan is the accuser of the brethren. We are Children of God. We will not be abandoned, because of “moral failure” when we are truly repentant. May God use this for His greatest Glory, and may we learn further of His deep capacities, His wells of endless Mercies. We are fervently praying that God will restore this most beleaguered by sin nation. That He will “save millions”, and forgive the most egregious of sins committed, unrelentingly, by our leadership. And yet, condemning one of our own to “hellfire” is our immediate self righteous position! Please, let us read, study, know, and believe who our God really tells us He is, and fight for the healing of all, who were injured in this heartbreaking failure! “Shooting our wounded” has been a reputation in many quarters of the Church; fist pounding indignation a cultural joke. But, when did our LORD act in fury!? When the temple was made a den of thieves! Robert Morris is obviously a very gifted man, who wanted to serve God, and others, and he did. Now, a day of reckoning has come. May we align ourselves in truth with our Father, and our Savior praying for justice dealing for them all.

Why didn't you ask Robert Morris what his sexual offensives were before you helped him in the ministry? I don't believe you either.

This situation grieves me so! I have been ministered to for years by James and Betty ( my mother before me). Robert and Debbie have been precious. My heart feels so sad. All this can't take away the good that has been done for christ! Only what's done for Christ will last! And it will!

How is it that an incident that took place 40 years ago to a sexual assault victim who professes to be a believer, has undergone extensive therapy for many years, is yet still suffering from the abuse? People are emotionally in tears over something that took place 40 years ago in the life of a supposed Christian? Does God not give healing to his redeemed children anymore? This woman who is now in her fifties hasn't moved on with her life any at all? I disbelieve it! I know that this type of abuse does deep damage that is beyond words to a person, but I also have personally known individuals who suffered possibly worse than this woman, walk in freedom today because of healing that has come to them through their salvation experience and relationship with the Lord. "Love covers a multitude of sins," the Bible says. We're also told to be "forgetting those things that are behind" and to press forward. Robert Morris 40 years ago repented before God for this sin, asking forgiveness from the girl and also her father. He underwent much counseling, owning then his sin, and stepped down from ministering after his heinous actions. Satan is the accuser of the brethren, and all those buying into this bringing up of a man's past sin that was 40 years washed in Jesus' cleansing blood, are, in my opinion, doing the devil's bidding, and this woman, Cindy is the one scripturally out of order and guilty of doing tremendous damage to the body of Christ, as well as the lost by her defamation of a man God has made clean.

This Morris wolf says he stepped down. So now what? He'll just go into retirement and enjoy his millions? He needs to be brought to justice for his crime and jailed.

We all have the ability to sin. We all have to resist the enemy. James 4:7 Evil spirits are real and try to persuade us to do things we shouldn't. If we yield to the mental temptations, or urges, and entertain those thoughts eventually we might act out those thoughts. God is judge and He forgives and none of us deserve it. I hope the woman heals and forgives and I hope Morris repents and I hope we all repent and forgive.

There are records that show Robert Morris was working in Mr Robison organization in the early 80’s.

James, I do appreciate you not only setting the record straight but also publicly denouncing the abuse and offering support to the victim. May we call on other leaders throughout the church in America to do the same, to pledge to end the cycle of abuse, to care for the wounded, and bear witness to harm that has been done.

Robison knew Morris was an adulterer, yet supported him in ministry.

It makes sense that Morris would not tell the senior pastors that he harmed a 12-year-old because he was an adult man and knew very well that what he did was wrong and all these pastors would not give him a medal for that... he certainly did not expect the 12-year-old to grow up and have the courage to speak up after so many years...

My question is where were the parents during this situation? Why would they let any young man be around their 12 year old daughter alone? Something is not right here with this family in my eyes. My father was a minister and we had evangelists come to preach, but I can assure you my father would be watchful of any man around his daughters (3) and son (1). So I am not doubting that Cindy is telling the truth, but I am wondering why her parents didn't notice this young man around their daughter.

My 2 sisters & i were molested as children. It was a curse in my family, so this is a sensitive issue with me, but I really hate how everyone is turning their backs on this man. It's been 35 yrs. He repented of his sins. While I empathize with the victim & my heart goes out to her, by her own admission, she & her family forgave him. This is not forgiveness. I could understand if there had been other accusations against him, but that isn't the case. By all accounts, he has addressed this demon in his life and has gone on to live a life of purity. Yet, she is screaming, 'I don't believe I'm the only one.' Where is the proof or the forgiveness? And everyone is saying he should have told us, he should have told us! Was he supposed to wear it tattooed on his forehead? Wear a scarlet letter? Really people? "Let him that is without sin, cast the first stone." To think about the sin is sin; you've already done it. I don't know about you, but I don't advertise my past sins. We preach grace, we preach forgiveness, but I guess that is only for the little sins, like lying, cheating on our taxes & gossip. God help the rest of us!

I'm so troubled by this whole situation. Moving forward I'm thinking I will start reading my Bible more and maybe listening to preachers less after all they are just human like I am. It's not like they have super powers. The ONE with the SUPER POWERS is with me always, never leaves nor forsakes me. Laid his life down for me. I've been through alot of bad situations in churches throughout my life and it's been at least 8 years since I've belonged to a chuch , have been listening to lots of online sermons and have seen alot of issues there as well. I pray that We "THE CHURCH " Will draw closer to our Lord and Savior and will listen closer to the Holy Spirit so that HE that began a good work in us will be able to complete it. Please help your people get through this conflict as painless as possible. Please teach us all how to get rid of self and remain humble in every situation and help us not to lust after fame and fortune but to lust after you. Amen.

Totally what we expected to hear.

Robinson had his own moral fall many years ago. They just go on with their ministries with no retribution. Like Jimmy Swaggart and his family. I never watched his ministry after that. Now Donnie has his exwife back after all those years they were divorced. His second wife just disappeared suddenly, and low and behold the second wife was gone. No explanation was ever given. Pastors dont want any accountability to anyone, but they need that!

His church (if it could be called a church) accepted his resignation? Why, oh, why was he not fired?

Why would JR even mentor, support, promote anyone who had had even moral failures? Morris has been in JR’s show many times. Jr promoted Morris’ books. JR has been at Gateway for many conferences. All while knowing Morris had “moral failures”. Morris admits in one of his books that God told him to get out of ministry. Why did Morris disobey God? Why did JR help Morris after surely having read or heard of this dictate from God? It’s all just too coincidental to be believed.

I cannot tell you how devastating sexual abuse is as a child. I experienced it also. It was not dealt with properly making me feeling even more shameful then the abuse itself. I was the one who was condemned. I supposedly brought it on. And I was under 5. Then again at 13 ….. by a guy who was 18. Thankful to God who saved me in more ways than one.

I had a very close relative who screamed when 'the church Sunday school' visitor came to their house. The tiny child refused to go to /sunday School but was not talking in sentences yet, . I can only hope this child is still not carrying abuse in his memory FROM church.. It's out there folks -- and not just in the Catholic Church.

Jail ! You don’t coddle criminals. No statutory limits when it comes to sex crimes especially for children.

Pastor Morris had so many opportunities to tell the truth. Instead he chose to twist the circumstance and "confess," his "affair". This is one of the most hideous aspects of sexual battery on children. Even more tragic that Mrs. Morris participated.
