James Stacy was a film and television actor that many audience members will best remember for his role on the 1960s television Western Lancer, which aired on the CBS network from 1968 until 1970. James had been trying to make it in the entertainment industry for years prior to his casting on the show, and the role provided him with his big break. Sadly, a tragic accident soon after the show came to an end was going to change James’ life and career forever.

James was born in Los Angeles, California, in 1936. After a failed attempt at being a college athlete, James dropped out of school and decided to become an actor. The young man’s first acting gig came in the form of a commercial for Pepsi-Cola. From there, the actor received some work as an extra in both film and television before moving up to bigger roles, such as in the 1963 Walt Disney musical Summer Magic.
Although James had worked steadily over the years in both film and television, 1968’s Lancer offered him his biggest role yet. The show followed the exploits of a rancher and his two sons, and James played one of the sons. Although the show only lasted for two seasons, it made James a hotter commodity than he’d ever been before. However, James’ upward trajectory in Hollywood was soon put to an end by a tragic 1973 motorcycle accident that killed James’ then-girlfriend and left the young actor a double amputee.
After James’ motorcycle accident, that actor had trouble receiving roles in Hollywood. He was cast in Kirk Douglas’ 1975 directorial effort Posse and had a critically-acclaimed role as a disabled Vietnam War veteran in the 1977 made-for-television film Just a Little Inconvenience. Despite James’ apparent success in Hollywood, things weren’t going so well in the actor’s personal life. In 1980, James was arrested for breaking an actress’s nose. However, an even more serious arrest a little over a decade later was going to end the actor’s Hollywood career for good. Join Facts Verse as we explore James Stacy’s tragic downfall and death.

I am sorry to tell you that some of the information you had on this video was inaccurate. I knew James personally and his girlfriend Antigoni. For the most part, James and Antigoni didn't live together. Antigoni is a dentist and lived back east where her practice was. She flew back and forth to be with him in Ventura , California where he lived, as often as she could. Also,, when he had his tragic motorcycle sccident, the girl who was killed, named Claire Cox, was not his girlfriend. She was the girlfriend of a friend of there's. There had been an argument of sorts between them, so James was taking Claire out for a hamburger when the accident happened. And finally, James' limbs were not amputated at the hospital. His arm was because it was mangled so bad on impact it had to be, but his leg was ripped off at the scene. How do I know this? James told me himself blow by blow everything that happened that horrible night.

Derek, I have been madly in love with James since I was about 15. But then so were thousands of girls! I am confused on a couple of facts about him. This article says Antigoni was his girlfriend since 2000. But wasn’t he still in prison at that time? 1996+6 years. That makes it 2002 when he got out. Also I’ve read that Claire Cox was married and had a daughter. True? Anyway, hope you can clear the confusion I’ve had for years on my very first celebrity crush. Thank you! 8:05 8:05

Did you also read that the girl who said she was molested later admitted she lied? He apparently went through a time dealing with alcohol and that was when he scared some young girls who lived close to him. He didn't deserve six years in prison. If the announcer says "James" one more time.... Oh wait I did turn it off. We know who the narrator is talking about. And, it's really annoying narration. I remember him fondly for his varied TV roles -- Perry Mason, he met Kim Darby on Gunsmoke, Connie Stevens wasn't in Summer Magic with him which is the Disney movie referenced and I didn't have to look any of this information up -- I grew up watching him and reading about him in movie magazines which was far more interesting than this piece.

I saw James in 1976 on TV in the film, "Flareup" and fell in love with him. My hero from 1975 (when I was 15)was James Dean and I was forever trying to find an actor to replace him. I thought Stacy was quite similar in Flareup. However, it's only very recently after I got a PC and was online, that I read about Stacy's private life, and was upset to read of the things he had done wrong. Actually, he was no replacement for the lovely James Dean. I haven't seen "Flareup" since 1977 and I would love to see it again because I loved it all those years ago. A sad accident and sad ending to a star however.

"The other guy" was Canadian-born US Navy veteran Wayne Maunder. He was a classically-trained actor who originally worked on the New York stage. After a 15 year career he decided to return to the east, where he had family and business interests. He died in 2018, aged 80. He was the last surviving member of the Lancer cast. Ironically, though he played the elder Lancer son, he was younger than his co-star.

There are so many things wrong, factually with this piece it's almost a joke. His DOB is incorrect, where he got the name stacy is incorrect, also his prison sentence was overterned when the young girl told the court he had lied. IF you are going to do a piece like this then I suggest you have the decency to get the facts correct and maybe ask the family and close friends if it's ok to do so. OR you can just make stuff up. Appalled by the inferences and missinformation. But I guess dead people cant defend themselves can they.

I found it troubling, your statement when I did research and found out your statement is erroneous, why? He was born on December 23, 1936. James Dean was an idol of his and he had a cousin named Stacy, hence, James Stacy. He was convicted in 1995 and served six years, quietly, at Chino Institution for Men in California. Anyone can do research but you didn't do yours, there are records of events and you have the nerve to use the word misinformation? Post his accident, the demons arose in the late James Stacy, he had great promise as an actor, he couldn't let go of his demons, Fact Verse is correct.
@karenturner2487
@karenturner2487 3 года назад
@@mattja52 he was born in 1933. It wasnt his cousin at all he took Stacy from his brothers daughter, his neice. As for his accident, it was just that an accident. @Patricia Walters The conviction was not overturned. Had it been overturned, he could have sued the State of California for wrongful conviction and incarceration, and he would have won. He was listed on the California and Federal Governments Sex Offenders registry until he died; when his "mug" shot was taken down and he was listed as deceased. The molestation, however, was not the only sex related crime he was convicted of; the State of Oregon prosecuted him for two class C felonies in 2007; one of which was for indecent exposure. He was, without a doubt, a decent actor; but he was also a very troubled individual whose difficulty with law enforcement began when he was just a teenager.
