James Stacy’s Tragic Downfall & Death 

James Stacy was a film and television actor that many audience members will best remember for his role on the 1960s television Western Lancer, which aired on the CBS network from 1968 until 1970. James had been trying to make it in the entertainment industry for years prior to his casting on the show, and the role provided him with his big break. Sadly, a tragic accident soon after the show came to an end was going to change James’ life and career forever.

James was born in Los Angeles, California, in 1936. After a failed attempt at being a college athlete, James dropped out of school and decided to become an actor. The young man’s first acting gig came in the form of a commercial for Pepsi-Cola. From there, the actor received some work as an extra in both film and television before moving up to bigger roles, such as in the 1963 Walt Disney musical Summer Magic.
Although James had worked steadily over the years in both film and television, 1968’s Lancer offered him his biggest role yet. The show followed the exploits of a rancher and his two sons, and James played one of the sons. Although the show only lasted for two seasons, it made James a hotter commodity than he’d ever been before. However, James’ upward trajectory in Hollywood was soon put to an end by a tragic 1973 motorcycle accident that killed James’ then-girlfriend and left the young actor a double amputee.
After James’ motorcycle accident, that actor had trouble receiving roles in Hollywood. He was cast in Kirk Douglas’ 1975 directorial effort Posse and had a critically-acclaimed role as a disabled Vietnam War veteran in the 1977 made-for-television film Just a Little Inconvenience. Despite James’ apparent success in Hollywood, things weren’t going so well in the actor’s personal life. In 1980, James was arrested for breaking an actress’s nose.
