James Stirling: An Architect Part Two 

Part 2 covers 1982 to his death in 1992.
With the competition winning new State Gallery in Stuttgart, Germany in 1982, there was transition to work with more historic references.
Part 2 traces this development, culminating in the controversial No 1 Poultry in London completed five years after his death. In this and all his work the very high caliber of site, building and urban design planning is often overshadowed by the unusual and frequently controversial facade & exterior design aspects of the work. Part 2 will also briefly address his life long teaching and the result of the 1969 Lima Peru, 'self-construct' housing competition.

About Ed Jakmauh:
Ed Jakmauh, FAIA, FACHA, Leed AP, is an architect and urbanist based in Philadelphia. He is emeritus principal at Ballinger, established in 1878, the oldest architecture and engineering firm in the US. Ed has spoken on urbanism and planning in Glasgow, Frankfurt, Montreal, San Fransisco and Boston. Locally he was the principal in charge of the Ballinger team working with Tod Williams and Billie Tsien, from New York, on the new Barnes Foundation building. In 1964 Ed met Jim Stirling and toured the Leicester Engineering building with him. Ed has degrees from Rensselaer and Harvard GSD; he was a Fulbright Fellow in Regional Planning at LSE, London School of Economics and Political Science.
