Tbh, this song wasn't really on the list of JT songs that I listened to much…until I saw him live in Frankfurt, Germany, last November. This was the last song, and there couldn't have been a better song to finish up. One of my choir mates was at the same concert and said to me afterwards that it would be a great idea to do this song with the choir. Our choir being a German men's choir with lots of pensioners who don#t like singing in English we decided to form a quartet to put this song on our set list; and I am working already on a 4-voice a cappella-version. It is challenging but it will be great! :) Now this song has become one of my favourites.
Remembering the first time I saw James Taylor on TV - it may have been the Phil Donahue show, 1972, '73? The week before, I saw Tom Rush sing Sweet Baby James and I had to see the writer of that song. I remember him saying he wrote Sweet Baby James for both himself and his nephews. I've been a fan ever since.
Love Linda Ronstadt's version, too. But then again, I love anything she sings. Ashamed to say I only recently learned she and James sang back-up on Neil Young's "Heart of Gold."
Went to this concert. Tanglewood thunder showers forced us to leave the lawn and miss this rendition. Having seen JT many times, it was sad to see this lifelong favorite singing past his prime. Hopefully his continued appeal benefited the Tanglewood community.
@@michelleshafto4141 He sells out because millions remember him from their youth. Then go to the concert and find he sings less, sings out of tune, as his back ground vocalists sing over him, to mask his not so great voice. Nice guy, generous guy, but I wouldn't attend again to hear a once great singer 'sound good'.
@@ConnectCommit yeah I get it, I haven't been to one of his live concerts since 1975 or so. I grew up 3 miles away from Tanglewood and am certainly close enough now to go to one but I haven't. So as I said, I can't say much more than I've already said, but I wonder what you could possibly expect really. He's seventy five, would you expect him to sound the same.
@@michelleshafto4141 Exactly. I now know not to expect him to sound the same. I guess it's the same thing as people still flocking to see Mick Jagger and the RS's. Elderly folks performing for elderly folks guess.
James should have let Henry play the song, and James just backing vocals. That would show where Henry's style is at... on one hand it's kind of sad, that James has this precious family in his 60-70's instead of his 30's. James is 75, and Kim is 66. Kim found a sarigot Mom, and had two boys Henry and Rufus. JT found his love in Kim, and thou older, he has made the most of his life! Happy and fulfilled. That's all that matters.
