Music video by James Taylor performing Secret O' Life (from Squibnocket). (C) 1993 Columbia Records, a division of Sony Music Entertainment vevo.ly/pnrrGK
My wife was one of the nurses who took care of me after being wounded in Vietnam 1968. We married 1974 without much accept our Lord and are love. Today we have our home, successful children and grandchildren, but only one granddaughter. I ordered a tee shirt that says on the front, YOU CAN"T TELL ME WHAT TO DO, YOUR NOT MY GRANDDAUGHTER. This song hits the nail on the head to the secret of life.
I’ve loved this song for decades. It helped give me strength following my 2008 stroke. It was among the songs played before my 2014 wedding. It continues to help me since I was diagnosed with stage 4 kidney cancer in 2019. Thanks JT!
No truer words have ever been spoken: 'The secret of life is enjoying the passage of time.' Everyone is always looking to arrive at that grand final station with the fireworks and the music and band playing and simply do not realize it's the trip that is what this is about and where true enjoyment comes from. That grand finale never happens as you are always looking for something better. Just enjoy the ride called Life. Stop waiting for something better and enjoy the ride my friends.
I came here for the exact same reason...but I'm wondering if it was actually Scott Grimes singing in the Orville episode. I know that Scott is an excellent singer, but I keep finding Joel McNeely's name associated with that particular performance. Any thoughts?
Twenty-six years ago I wrote the wedding ceremony for one of my daughters. James Taylor's version of "You've Got a Friend," had been our song ever since her teen years when her struggles included an attempted suicide (her mother and I were divorced). It was also the song I used for our father-daughter dance at the wedding, which I sang along to her as we danced. I opened the ceremony by simply playing a recording of this song, Secret O' Life. It was perfect. Really set the tone. My daughter just stood there and wept. I cannot even imagine a world without the music of James Taylor. What a gift he has been to us all.
Enjoy James in his later years verses his early. He was distracted in his early days and it showed when he performed. He smiles when he sings now and he's happy and at peace. God Bless James Taylor!
Funny but I didn’t really like James Taylor music back when I was in high school (1979 to 1982) but then I hit my 30s, 40s and suddenly it hit me like a bolt of thunder that this man was actually a musical genius and I began buying his albums and listening to more and more of him. Now I’m approaching 60 and I really understand and appreciate his music more than ever. James Taylor will grow on you as you grow and begin to understand the complexities and subtleties you will encounter in life. It’s an amazing talent to use music 🎶 to convey some of life’s wisdom and challenges, connect with your audience and make the music beautiful all at the same time. Thank you James! 🙏
I am so present to the "Secret O' Life' this afternoon ... I keep listening to JT's various versions over and over as I cook ... 1977! I want these words posted in front of me every day!
I never really like being bound by time. I love your line James Taylor that says, “now the thing about time is that time isn’t really real. It’s just your point of view. How does it feel to you?” This version truly conveys to your listeners a true invitation to relax, discard anxiety, and become one who loves others with an open heart.
I believe....one more heartbeat...I follow Love. I am the manifestor of love. heaven opened up and I felt that God given love. I have never felt anything so strong.....it is like the whole heavens opened up. and wexwere both fighting for Children to be loved. and Rainbows oh my goodness I will write how our Rainbows fiit together.
Listening to James Taylor brings me something close to the same peace I hear when I listen to the Original Carter Family or Elizabeth Cotten. Just reminds me home.
JT has always been my favorite guitar player, I missed his concert in Lubbock TX but have been sticking with learning youtube acoustic guitar tutorials of his songs for many years

Not knowing any better, or very much about the Vineyard, for months now, I've been reading these titles as "from Squidbucket." Eye exam may be coming up.
