Please tell me what trent done lastnight apart from one interception. He was shocking could not control the ball and his tactical awareness as with his positional awareness were awful like a fish out of water . No good going on about yesteryear it's the now that counts and he was shocking

Yes he made a mistake for their shot but show me a midfielder that has never done that plus plenty of the other England players gave the ball away in the same game. We were great the first half and Trent was very much involved. He also put a ball on a plate for Bellingham which he should have buried. This whole narrative that Trent was poor is just lazy Bollox as he is an easy target. Kane and Foden were absolute dog shite and whole team struggled 2nd half due to poor tactics which put them all under unnecessary pressure but no let’s focus on Trent. The substitutes made no difference at all when they came on so it’s not like anything improved when Trent came off.

Yeah.. any midfielder could lose a runner, but Trent definitely will! :) The most infuriating thing is Trent's reaction when he gets done or loses the ball. He DOES NOT CARE. He's never in the hurry to recover.

Fair enough but if he's that quality why's he not playing Centre Midfield for Liverpool? Surely if he's just 'okay' at defending playing him CM and allowing him to pick passes would suit him perfectly? Personally just think he's overrated

@@DanielJ096 He is. You have to understand that modern football emphasizes more of 'role' rather than 'position' in the team. Trent's role in the Liverpool team is RB (out of possession) and no.6 playermaker (in possession). Play Trent in midfield allows the attackers like Bellingham Foden to position higher to receive the ball. More attackers higher up the pitch = greater threat. Furthermore, trent also allows your attackers like Saka Watkins to make that run behind defense line to 'cause chaos' and create goal scoring opportunities just like Nunez always does for us

Spot on. Why Southgate changed a perfectly good system I don't know. Bellingham played well at 10 for Madrid as they had no striker. Southgate follows suit and disrupts the whole system by playing Foden wide. Bellingham at 10 and playing TAA a right back in midfield just because he can pass the odd long pass. Southgate needs to go after this tournament.

@@BloodRedLFC TAA was the worst England player on the pitch just now. TAA had 1 shot, gave Mitrovic a great chance due to his poor 1st touch. Misplaced passes. A free-kick into the wall. He looked lost in midfield. It was a good job Rice was there to bail TAA out. As soon as Gallagher came on England looked a lot better in midfield. TAA just isn't a midfielder. Walker is just the better right-back.

@@chriswood753 I'm not blind to see that Trent did not have a good game, but i think Kane and Foden did worse than him. Where's Kane in the 1st half? To Trent's defense, Southgate is not using him properly to his strength. Trent is that playmaker that you want him to get the ball from your center backs or GK and starts dictating the play in front of him. This role is occupied by Rice. Trent is constantly being positioned higher up as a no.8 with his back to the goal during buildup. This is not playing to his strength in midfield. Or if not, that's where you play Trent as inverted RB with your right winger and right CM high and wide. Yet this role is occupied by Walker... Trent also play better with a Watkins rather than Kane in the team who will constantly look to run behind defence. Kane is more static or drops deeper. Can tell from the game that Trent did not feel natural or lack of that chemistry or synergy with his teammates. So yes if Southgate continues to play with this setup, i would rather him not playing Trent in the team!

@@sitaylor because Walker is in his way. For Liverpool, he tends to roam just in front of Konate and pick the ball up and starts dictating the play in front of him. Because Walker plays, he being positioned higher in the right hand channel instead
