What ppl read and saw in FS I will never understand. JD did his best with the appalling script and his horrid character. Did he personally deserve a critics mauling? Probably not. Did the trilogy deserve a mauling? Ofc it did.
I believe the reason these movies were such a success was because of the team work between Dornan and Johnson,the core of the movies was the love story,must people who did not like the movies did not see that!!Jamie was so believable in his role,and,Dakota brought it to the table with him and it was x3 movies,and,there are Millions of people who want SO much more of the two together in any movie!!!!These movies will go down in history regardless of the haters!!!!
Saw a smidge of the end of FSG then wanted to read the books to understand. Have read all 6 and watched/bought all 3 films. The only critic opinion important is mine! I loved it all and watch/buy JD and DJ projects. They are both talented and (he especially) seem very open, approachable and caring of the fan base.

Take away the sex scenes and both Jamie and Dakota did a great job with their characters. Dakota's character started as an innocent college student by the 3rd movie she had created a strong woman. Jamie's character started as someone only caring about himself and what he wanted and by the 3rd movie Christian really loved the strong woman Ana became. That's good acting to grasp the concept of your character and portray it.
Never read the books, only saw a few clips of movies for interviews. Not a fan of any of it. However, I have a good deal of respect for Jamies work. I hope he made a lot of money for him and his family and had a rather authentic reaction post movies that are quite humble. More power to him and his career. His coworker ummm..not so much. She doesn't appear to me to express any humbleness at all ever. Maybe just her interview style though. Purely just my opinion. I will co tinue to notice Jaimes career however. I am from an older era which likely influences my perspective and life choices. Life experiences change a person over a lifetime.
I listened to the books on audio format then watched all 3 movies on Prime Video over the Labour Day Holiday Weekend 2023. The chemistry between Jaime and Dakota were off the charts!
Film critics? They are some snobs! Movies are made for the public, without the public this film industry would not survive. Favorable criticism matters for the profession in the field. What is interesting is that the critics never take into account the public, although there are hundreds of films with huge success with the public.
There's no reason to hate it and there's nothing cringey about it at all. What's so cringey about a man falling in love and opening up to a woman, not bearing to be touched and finally finding happiness after literally being scarred for life?
