Tallaght, Ballyfermot and Clondalkin are also southside. Obviously that pretentious woman with the bike refers to the areas of Ballsbridge, Dún Laoghaire and Dalkey. I have been working in Dublin for the past 3 years throughout North, South and West Dublin and I have met some of the nicest people from both sides of the Liffey. There are good and bad everywhere. I do find much more cultural diversity in the Northside of the city though, and people seem to be more approachable. There's an impenetrable old Dublin spirit in their banter and lingo in the Northside too.
@@jamiejaycar he may be Nigerian in ethnicity but he’s an Irishmen at heart. Well, a combination of the two cultures he’s embraced throughout his life. Not throwing shade at anyone here just pointing out that he is just as Irish in all the ways that matter.
This video is awesome! I'm an American who, a year ago, was in Dublin on holiday. Not knowing anything about the reputations of the different areas of Dublin, I booked a very nice Air B&B on Oriel Street. I had no idea that the adjoining street, Sheriff Street, was notorious. Everyone in Dublin expressed shock when I told them where I was staying. It would be like an Irish tourist staying in a high-crime part of Los Angeles that everybody here stays away from. And it happens all the time. In any case everyone I met in Dublin was friendly. I had just come from a week in London, where people would shove past each other without an "excuse me".

The south side of city centre is nicer for food and drinks....but the northside and south side of Dublin have their nice and not so nice areas...anyone that thinks there is a divide need to get out of Ireland and go travelling.
Based on this, if I was to move there, which would be a dream, I'd have to choose the North. The one tall, gentleman before Richard, did it for me. I liken his explanation to our American HOA's. And it sounds like your Southside is like our areas with HOA's and your North side would be like our HOA-free areas. HOA's are a big, giant pita, and the people that run them let the power go to their head, when really it means nothing. HOA-free is far more relaxed, like the gent said, willing to help each other, don't get twisted over little things, etc.
Dublin's true social and economic divide is East-West. Not North-South. Northside areas such as Clontarf, Raheny, Howth, Malahide, Sutton are devoid of social housing, like costal areas on the Southside.
I lived in Dun Laoghaire for a very long time and had a boulder thrown into my window 😂 not posh at all. Live in south Clondalkin now and it's nothing out of the ordinary.

Right - the whole north-side, south-side thing is bullshit. A work colleague once told me that he perferred the North-side to the South-side because the South-side was full of poncy gits. He lived in Malahide. So - when you say north-side, are you including the likes of Clontarf, Portmarnock, and Malahide? When you say south-side, are you including the likes of Kilmainham, Inchicore, Ballyfermot, and Tallaght? Now - I propose an exercise. Grab yourself a map of Dublin, and a red and blue pen, pick out 20 areas (preferably at Random), and Mark with a red, places that have the traits you'd associate with the North-side, and with a blue anywhere with the traits you'd associate with Southside. Have a look at how the places are distributed on the map. The social divide in Dublin is between west and east Dublin, or rather near the Irish-sea, and further away from the Irish Sea.

I’m a Culchie, born and bred in Co. Meath (but my Granny on my Dad’s side was a Dublin Liberties Mot) - I worked in Superquinn on the Northside for many years and I’ve also visited the Southside, but when I come home to Ireland now from the U.K. where I’ve lived in Manchester for 21 years, I prefer the Northside of Dublin, because the people there are real and not fake - this is why I love the Dealers of Moore St in particular - my next door neighbour Anne and her husband here in Manchester were both real Dubs from the Northside and they trace thier roots back to the Sheriff St flats and Fatima Mansions before they were overran with drugs
I like the guy who said that it's all Dublin, so it doesn't matter. That was a very diplomatic answer. As an Englishman (so my opinion doesn't matter here) I'd say the South side, as it's more cultured.
