Get your weekend off to a great start with this absolutely classic cocktail - the Bloody Mary. Jamie's going to show you how to make two versions - the classic Bloody Mary cocktail and the version from his restaurant Barbecoa, with a meaty BBQ and bacon twist. With the Bloody Mary, the possibilties are endless. How do you like yours? Created in partnership with Bacardi.
For Jamie's classic Bloody Mary recipe you'll need vodka, sieved plum tomatoes or tomato juice, lemon juice, a pinch of salt and pepper, Worcestershire sauce and hot sauce. Garnish with a celery stalk, another pinch of pepper and some aromatic herbs.
For the Barbecoa Bloody Mary recipe you'll need vodka, sieved plum tomatoes or tomato juice, lemon juice, Worcestershire sauce, barbecue sauce and a pinch of salt. Garnish with a celery stalk, some aromatic herbs, a crispy piece of smoked, streaky bacon, a dill pickle, an olive and a sprinkling of celery salt.

A Bloody Mary is just a Caesar waiting to happen. Same recipe except swap out the tomato juice for Mott's Clamato juice and you have what's been called Canada's unofficial national drink. Yum.

Bloody mary's can have multiple varieties, and this one is fine. But, since im a bartender and have made far too many of these, stirring and even shaking is not the traditional and in my opinion the best way to mix this drink, which is pour (officially ROLLING it) it from glass to glass a half dozen times. This mixes everything together evenly and does not make the tomato juice get bubbly or "lumpy" (not mixed well enough). and adding ice is always AFTER the ingredients are mixed.

B0nckers Perhaps, but rolling a drink is perhaps not a skill that comes easily to a non-professional bartender. We try and keep things nice and simple so everyone can join in. We hear you though.

The Barbecoa version is fantastic. I made a Thai spin on the Bloody Mary recently that's was heaps of fun. 45ml of Vodka and 15ml of Ginger Liquer* - *just make it all vodka if you have no Ginger Liquer 7-10ml of a half half soy and fish sauce mix 4-6 Thai basil leaves Small handful of coriander leaves A bar spoon of Ginger Marmalade - can be normal marmalade but ginger is better A bar spoon of a homemade pickled chilli, or soracha sauce, or a few drops of tobacco Pinch of pepper 15ml of lime juice 15ml of lemon juice And of course 100ml tomato juice Shaken without the tomato juice and then served over ice in a large pint glass with the tomato juice. Garnished with a cucumber, Thai basil leaf or two and some fresh coriander with a little wedge of lime.

Caesars are great, too. The brininess of the Clamato juice adds a little somethin' somethin'. You could probably get similar results by adding a little bit of clam juice to this recipe. I like mine with lime juice and horseradish.A little olive brine plays really well, too.

Can't beat a great Bloody Mary for breakfast. In the past I have added wasabi, pickled ginger, jalepenos, Chipolte paste.....and sometime substitute the vodka for gin. I find a pinch of sugar also helps balance the acid in the tomatoes, same as I would when cooking with tinned tomatoes.

I would go a little crazy and smoke the tomatoes first. Then have some Irish whiskey single malt to give some peppery notes to the savory tomato. Have some fresh chili’s added to it to spice it up. And instead of a lot of cubes of ice have two balls of ice and put the entire drink in a mason jar. That is my personal favorite way of doing it. An my inspiration came from the barbaccoa version shown here.

Tried one today with Liquid Smoke and Balsamic Vinegar. Liquid Smoke will give it a bit of a bacon flavor. The Balsamic Vinegar lifts up all of the flavors. Gonna try fresh basil this weekend.

Jamie Oliver's Drinks Tube The Canadian version is a bit different than Simone's recipe. Its a Ceaser! It's the equivalent of a bloody mary, but you sub. the tomato juice for clamato juice (still use tabasco and worcestershire and vodka is the traditional spirit), and you (near always) rim the glass with something, usually celery salt. No beer in ours, unless you're doing a cheeky variation :p The Ceaser is the quintessential Canadian cocktail, created in Calgary, Alberta! :D

@porsche911CarreraRSR
@porsche911CarreraRSR 8 лет назад
+Jamie Oliver's Drinks Tube OK. I have done a few experiments. Garlic cloves totally over power everything and they kind of destroy the texture. Anchovies on the other hand are INCREDIBLE. One anchovies per drink does it (although I bet more would be good too). I just chop the anchovy in to really tiny pieces and smash it with a chef knife, much in the same way chefs chop and smash garlic in to a paste. Also, I add a dash or 2 or Worcestershire to help make the anchovy paste a little less dry. This paste makes a KILLER bloody marry. It adds a subtle meaty funk. But the BEST part is that little chunks of the anchovies are suspended in the drink, so you get yummy little salty meat bombs with every sip. Try it.
@viveladecadence
@viveladecadence 8 лет назад
+Yanni mouzakis Now that you mention it: I usually don't have anchovis at hand, but I do have fish sauce which, let's face it, is basically the same thing without the chunky bits. I'll give it a try and add a few drops the next time I make a Bloody Mary. :)

While you've got the olives and pickles handy, add a bar spoon of the brine from each. You'll get the salt and tang adding another complexity to your drink. If you plan ahead, funnel off some vodka to a smaller bottle, now add 3-4 rosemary sprigs, a crushed glove of garlic and 3-4 rings of onion. Leave at room temp for 24-48hrs, when making your drink, use a little or a lot of this infusion (for taste) together with the pure vodka. You've just elevated it from a drink to a meal in every sip that would blow Willie Wonka away.
