As someone studying History at university, and someone who has always behaved and done well at school and never stepped out of line- it's this type of show I see as a total injustice. I would love just one of my lectures to be done by Starkey!
This is how ALL teachers should be in the classroom. What David did brilliantly is he used their modern interests (body building/riding etc) to get them interested in what he was talking about. Notice how bored they looked at the beginning and how much more involved they became in conversation after a while. We need passionate, educated teachers who can translate their interests over to the kids in a way that is relatable to THEM. and also we need to PAY teachers more!! It's no wonder no one wants to teach nowadays. Love David Starkey. Wish he had been my lecturer!
I wish I could give this ten thousand thumbs up. Dr. Starkey is always great to listen to, and it's nice to see these kids interested, involved and engaged. It can't be easy to help people see how the past and our present life are connected in powerful ways, but he does it superbly.
Starkey is brilliant, the way he engages with a bunch of thick, poorly disciplined teenagers. I used to hate history A level (Tudors actually), I wish David Starkey had been teaching it.
The 'fat' incident was necessary, because if you'll notice, this guy is trying to be the 'alpha male' amongst these peers - and anyone introducing any new idea, concept or norm needs to confront the alpha - brutal, but needs must...and if this is the 'last chance' for these kids, then this is a lesson well taught and a swallowing of his pride is the best lesson if any other will be forth coming
Just imagine how easier, productive and enjoyable this lesson could be with a few basic, traditional rules without compromise. Look to the front, no chewing, distractions or talking, no calling out (hands up). Even sitting up properly with ties straight. But it wouldn't make good TV.
difficult to believe they could behave that disrespectfully towards David Starkey. If he taught me I'd be looking for facts to bump up my GCSE grade, not lying on a table.
Shit students go into full victim-mode when confronted when basic truths about the way the world works. This whole series is great. The American school system could use Starkey too.
David Staryey. Your programme and the way you teach is second to none,if there were teachers such as you in our schools ther would be no problems with this country’s education system, woke could never have raised its head above the parapet. And to think those skunks had the temerity to cancel you.Hopefully the tide is gradually turning and those people will find a rude awakening.
Pure snobbery i'm afraid. Whether people are poorly educated or not doesn't mean anyone else should look down on them. They're showing the willingness to learn, that is the important thing.
I'm guessing alot of kiids just went on this for a shot at fame, so its wrong fromt he get go, its good to see that kid who Starkey called fat is taking an interest now, they will be good chums i think
better late than never, in the UK the metric system is the official system however road signs are still in miles and many many many people are so used to the imperial systems of measurements for things such as height in feet and inches and wight in pounds and ounces etc. I think the cost of changing the road signs to km would just be too ridiculously high and it would annoy many people in the UK. On a personal note using feet and inches for peoples heights just seems so much more correct for me. like i'm 6,1 or whatever rather than 185cm. Also i find it very strange how countries who claim to fully use the metric system France or Germany for example use imperial measurement when measuring surf boards i've never seen a surfboard sold in cm never in my life surfboards are always sold in feet and inches. Not sure why this is can anyone help me?
This guy's experience represents all teaching.... A waste of time and talent. When you first start teaching you think... Well, this teacher should have used a Powerpoint, or tried to relate the subject to the lives of the students more... He is also talking far too much..... Lectures don't really work...… But after time you realise … It doesn't matter. Regardless of the lesson plan.... They just don't care. This teacher.... No, way could he do this day after day.... far too much energy is spent.... He should not have accepted stupid answers, this led to swearing or him being interrupted.... It just got worse for him.....
Big Sigma actually, women played perhaps the most essential role of bringing up the youth. Also, in many monarchy's women played a vital advisory role.
But this is such a simplistic interpretation of things. By and large, no one had any rights at all, unless they were noble. And if you laid a handle on a noblewoman, you were in for a terrible time. You also fail to recognize any sort of informal power, not to mention the female monarchs that ruled their own Kingdoms (or Queendoms, if you prefer). I don't know why I bother. I can always count on feminists and their 'allies' to oversimplify things in the least charitable manner possible.
You mean like Eleanor of Aquitaine? The only catholic woman to ever get a divorce out of the Pope, from the King of France no less. Whose army he had to politely request to borrow so he could go on the crusades like a big boy, and acted like a child the entire way there because she was a powerful woman and he couldn't handle it? And despite all of this she's dragged out of a war chamber where she was planning the war with her uncle and generals, by her husband, and locked in the bedroom on her ship. And nobody did anything about this because despite all the power she wielded, she was still "just a woman"? That's patriarchy, mate. Maybe feminists HAVE studied history - and you need to study feminism rather than tilting (see, jousting joke, you condescending simpleton) at strawmen.
@@katsilva4277 What a ridiculous feminist cartoon interpretation. "The only catholic woman to ever get a divorce out of the Pope, from the King of France no less." How did she do that if your patriarchy was so all powerful? "Maybe feminists HAVE studied history " Yes, but never with a view to finding truth. *Always* with the primary purpose of re-interpreting it through a ridiculous feminist viewpoint - in order to use it for propagandizing their ideology. "You need to study feminism" I have. Andrea Dworkin, Gloria Steinem, Catherine MacKinnon, Germaine Greer. Feminism is a self serving, navel gazing political ideology dedicated to serving 1. itself and 2. 50% of the population. It deliberately set out to destroy the institution of marriage and the family unit and was successful and hence been an unmitigated disaster for optimal child rearing and by extension social relations. It's denigrated and undermined the role of motherhood, and caused women to lose the choice to be a homemaker. Camille Paglia is the only feminist worth listening to - but she's been ostracised by the extreme lunatics that now call themselves feminists. Feminists are and always have been the useful idiots used by the revolutionary leftists to accomplish their goals.
What is the point of Dream School? Isn't it, once again, the modern gladiatorial spectacle of humiliation. We are supposed to sneer at both Starkey and the poor students who are incapable of appreciating him. In the real world, Starkey belongs in a high-ranking university, and these children belong in vocational schools to become hairdressers and fork-lift truck drivers.
I haven't seen it before, but the intention seems to be to inspire a love of learning in these failing students. I don't find myself sneering at either Starkey or the students, instead I'm really enjoying it. He clearly inspires interest in them and he's inspiring interest in me.
i thought north american kids were disjointed from society, but after watching a few of these vids im totally shocked.. these kids may be 17 but they have the mental capacity of a 11 year old.. these children have such an amazing heritage and they could not give less f*cks about it.. empty vessels..
What a stupid comment. The school is supposed to take the students from the least-privileged backgrounds, who have been victims of poor teaching, both in school and at home, and to give them a taste of a 'dream-school' where you have your dream teacher in every subject. The intention is then to show the power of good teaching and instilling enthusiasm in learning, which many of the people watching the programme also may have missed out on. A lot of the teachers are fantastic and deliver great lessons. How has this gone over your head? How are we supposed to sneer at David Starkey? It also does a great job at bringing out the sort of dumb, snobbish comments you see in the comment-sections of this video from people who look down their noses and just insult the children. Like you: "these children belong in vocational schools to become hairdressers and fork-lift truck drivers". You're a prick. And an example of why a lot of the least-privileged children don't have a hope of bettering themselves with people like you grinding down any potential aspiration.
Judging by the sucking of lollipops and the chewing of gum, the swearing, the constant moronic shouting out, the falling asleep and the general stinking attitudes on display in more or less all of these videos, none of these insufferable brats have a 'dream teacher'. Or any dreams, come to think of it, at least ones that don't involve joy riding or alcopops. It also speaks volumes about Channel 4's politics that a group of their executive producers think that this kind of behaviour warrants reward. You're correct about bad teaching by the way: kids used to learn things in school, now they're simply indoctrinated with all the worst aspects of modernism and learn next to nothing about things like self restraint, culture, decency and philosophy, which goes some way to explaining why the majority of the group behave like chimpanzees when a lesson is being given. I blame the politicos.
Asinine? That's way too big a word for a peroxide blonde stupid bitch who doesn't know that men are physically (and I'm willing to say mentally) stronger than women.
