Miami Vice is the greatest tv show ever. I remember as a kid, I was glued to my tv on Friday nights watching my favorite Icon Don Johnson. It was surreal. Those were the best of times. I miss the 80s so much. I wish I could go back in time.
It’s all about the drums that is how this song always had me hooked…. I really miss the 80’s. I don’t think we realized just how good we had it. I feel homesick.
I agree, in it's genre. "THE WILD WILD WEST" was the best for TV westerns and "THE ROCKFORD FILES" definitely deserves some recognition, (theme songs, that is).
I know how you feel Judy! I'm older, so my similar situation was ages earlier. Friday nights, homework, shower quickly, then Wild Wild West, then Man From U.N.C.L.E. But The 80s were a magic time!!! And while Miami Vice was on TV, I lived on the beach in SoCal, and nearly everyone, including me, were Don Johnson wanna be's, ROFL. He was the epitome of coolness, and I still think he's the benchmark even today!
I turned 60 this month and other than the occasional other decade songs I have found i like, nothing compares to the 80's living. So great to still be alive and enjoy all of the songs even the not so well known.
I have no idea why, but somehow that windsurfer dipping her hair into the ocean at the 13 second mark is the sexiest move in the world. Long live the 1980's.

When I watch Miami Vice reruns or hear the theme music! I feel like quitting my shitty job, telling my boss to take a flying F! Sell my home, cash in 401K, tell my old lady to get lost & move to Miami Beach, buy a Armani Suit, cool shoes to match & a white Testarossa to drive on Ocean Drive day & night & live happily ever after!!!!!!
One problem with that pal, ... you'd have to convert your Testarossa into a time machine, and pull a ."'Back to the Future" to be alive in the 80s. Also, your Radio Shack 1985 Commodore home computer had a memory of 128 KB.(512 KB with "Floppy discs"), so there was virtually no internet. Plus, your cellphone was knickednamed: "The Brick." However, you still had a choice between Beta and VHS taped cassettes, and video recorders/players you could rent from "Blockbuster," and listen to music on cassettes (even 8-track), or vinyl on your sound-system, or the just cassettes on your portable Sony "Walkman."

When I go shopping especially the supermarket everybody avoids eye contact but I look straight at them and say "Morning All" - I just talk - my children run the other way out of embarrassment but I have met so many people and had wonderful conversations. Miami Vice, Literally a series that was ahead of it's time. What an era. The nostalgia is real man. Been re-watching the entire series these past months, and what a time. Don't think any show can come close too it these days. Sad that the era, is long past. Iconic storyline, themes, instrumentals, characters and so much more. Truly, legendary.
This is my favorite show. I loved living down in Homestead in 1991-1992 stationed at Homestead Air Force Base. Enjoyed cruising the strip in downtown Miami and Coconut Grove.
Better than the original ... thanks for leaving the Tig Bitties in the sequence. Watching +30 year old Don Johnson rolling on the floor was also a plus. Spray and pray sequences that injure the shoulder also rock the 80s. Thanks for the extended synth play. Thumbs up.
80's were the best years! There will never be another Miami Vice or rock n roll bands who actually sang lyrics with meaning inlike today's youth who think rap is the norm.
There were no other TV police shows like Miami Vice. Crockett and Tubbs were the coolest police detectives around. The show was very influential in pop culture in the 1980's.
I remember at the the age of 9 after never missing this intro (especially at the 0:15) and the sound of the music I was gonna go to Miami when I grew up and nothing else mattered 😄
Originally, James "Sonny" Crockett was to use a Browning BDA .45 ACP. He also carries a Detonics Pocket 9 chambered in 9mm Parabellum as a backup, tucked in his rear waistband near the small of his back. Ricardo "Rico" Tubbs was armed with a sawed-off double-barreled shotgun in the first season. In Season 2, he used an Ithaca 37 sawed-off pump shotgun called an Ithaca Stakeout, which he carried on a halter under his jacket. Beginning in Season 3 (and for the remainder of the show), he carried a modified, short-barreled Remington 870. As a backup, he carried a Smith & Wesson Model 38 Bodyguard with Pachmayr grips. He can also be seen using a SIG P228 in the series finale 'Freefall' and a Smith & Wesson Model 36 in the pilot episode.

This still sounds as fresh as the day it came out..it does not sound dated at all..you could get young people to listen to it for their first time and im sure they would think its awesome..
For the kids who weren't around then... Stereo tv wasn't even a thing when this show started.... stereo tv started a year later. So..... this theme was AMAZING back then to hear in stereo on your tv for the first time back in the mid 80s!! I wasn't a big Miami Vice fan..... but always tried to watch the opening to hear / see this in awesome stereo sound!! LMAO
My dad and I took a trip to Miami last month, I convinced him to let me go cruising around in his car and I had this song blaring while I was driving around.

Oh man...the memories! I once dressed up as Crockett for Halloween in grade school. I probably should not have been watching this in grade school, but man. Still one of my favorite 80s shows and the music as a whole was bad-ass, not just the theme song.
This show still holds up, but watching it in the 1980s was other-worldly. We could not believe what we were watching. God damn 80s, you were too good. What do we have now? Nothing.
This show was very popular when i was in high school. I only missed it when i had a date or had to work. It really influenced fashion. The retail store i worked at had a lot of tailored clothes like Don and Phillip wore in the show. I miss the 80s soo much! Great music and great times!
