I still remember the first time I went to a Lee awards. It was in the Chicago suburbs. And I think that is where my love of crafting started! It was a young crafters dream. Had to laugh when you said you are learning new things about yourself at 55. I just turned 65 and feel the same way. Not sure I like everything lol! Enjoyed your story about yesterday. We all like to know we are not the only ones who have days like that. Your stitching is beautiful as always.
LOL Dayle about still learning and not necessarily liking everything. Love that you had a Lee Wards in your area, too. I had no idea they were all over the country. So many great memories!
Watching the video and you're talking about Lee Wards!!! LOVED that store. Had one not all that far from my home while my kids were little and I believe I discovered them when I actually was in San Diego right after I got married. So much fun. But while living in WY for a couple of years, they had a Ben Franklin. At the time, I think they could be considered the last of the "dime store" type stores, so they had a wide variety of stuff. But their craft stuff was a lot of fun, I used to spend as much time there as I could.
Love your new start. Had to laugh about the smaller parking spaces. Now you know what I went thru when we moved here to Gemany. If you don't have a small car, well..... I fight with all the new SUVs that take up one and a half spaces.
Oh my! I would have a few words for them, too! But I also don’t understand how people get these huge vehicles parked! I basically just try to find a place as far from everyone else as possible. Lol.
So pretty.. the blue fabric is wonderful. Now I do have to say that I kind of got the giggles as you were telling your stairwell story. I know those things are awful at the time but it surely got me going. I could tell it was going downhill as you were driving around in the parking garage...crawling out the other door..oh my! Whew... you deserve a good rest and some stitching time. 😄💕
LOL. Thanks Chris. Luckily I could laugh about it the next day as well. And I now know to just head up to the roof of the parking garage where there aren’t as many people parking. Sounds good to me! Hope you’re having a great weekend!
Sounds like you had an “interesting” trip to “town”. I completely understand liking to be familiar with where I’m going. Don’t enjoy driving in unfamiliar places either but will if I have to.😀 have a great rest of your day!
Hello sweet birthday girl. I hope you’re enjoying your birthday week. I can so relate to the anxiety of driving in the city. I get scatterbrained a lot of times also, and I blame it on menopause. LOL!. I didn’t comment on your post the other day but do go for massage for your sciatic. I’ve had good results with clients getting massages.
Jan Hicks Make sure you communicate with your massage therapist of how deep you can handle. You have the control, do not let the massage therapist tell you just to suck up and put up with it. If it’s too much you tell them.
Oh your birthday sounded just exhausting! What a harrowing ordeal you had getting to the doctors! I’m so glad you can laugh about it today. The Aloha is going to be gorgeous - all those beautiful colors!!
Jan, Hobby Lobby near me has the new colors individually. I just got the tin of the entire set at Michael's with a 40% off coupon while visiting my daughter a couple weeks ago. My local Michael's doesn't have them. I can get the color you need and send it to you if you haven't been able to find it. I'd be happy to do it. Have a great birthday week.
Hey Jan you look or sound like you are having fun with your birthday bash. This on is going to be very pretty and great fabric n choice. Sounds as though yoy birthday was an adventure not funny when you panic thinking, they have trapped me in one of those horrible movies and I can't get out of the stair well 😭😡. Glad you were rescued. Glad you are laughing about all of that today. Happy late birthday. Be Blessed.
Ha! Yes, it was definitely like a bad movie, but thank heavens it wasn’t any worse than having the assistant come to my rescue! Lol. Thanks so much, Connie!
Aloha is looking great! Sorry you had such a sucky day yesterday, especially on your boy. I hate not knowing my way around, but you’ll be a native in no time! Michele 💕
I’m sorry about your tiring day yesterday, but I did have a chuckle about you being locked in the stairwell. If you decide you need some DMC 10, I’d be happy to send it to you. I enjoying stitching on Jacobean tree while listening to your video. 💕
Aloha! I was here....happy stitching today! 💕 Oh I wanted to tell you I use an app called Cross Stitch fabric Calculator. It is very useful to me. Ciao 🐈
I don’t think I’ve heard of that app. There is a fabric calculator in the XStitch app as well, so it’s pretty darn convenient to have it all right there.
I so love this one! But I’m really sorry Jan, I had to laugh when you were talking about the traffic and the parking stalls! I’m like you and don’t want to park in stalls where people are on the line! And yes the traffic is horrendous here! That’s why I go in to work early! Gotta beat the traffic!
I don’t blame you! And Mike was telling me he heard that when Pearl lets out, that whole area comes to a standstill. Hope it’s not too bad! But yeah, parking here is not my favorite. I just do my best to find a space as far away from everyone else as possible. And luckily, in general, traffic up in this area isn’t bad at all.
oh my goodness -- I didn't realize there were still Ben Franklin stores around. I have very fond memories of shopping there with my grandmother in small town Sheridan, WY. We would spend a few weeks with her every summer and my grandfather would take here there (she had never learned to drive) and wait patiently in the car while she would go in to pick up yarn to crochet her afghans. I was always shocked that the craft store was merged with the hardware store, as our BF in MT was it's own shop in the mall. LOL All of my framed cross stitch pieces were framed in their AWESOME frame shop. I was completely heartbroken when they closed (about 15 years ago) and haven't been brave enough to try a new frame shop. If I ever make it to HI that will have to be one of my stops. :) Just a question about the loop start -- do you find that your thread frays a bit easier? I used the loop start for years and years and then read something a few months ago about one of the threads not laying the same direction like when you would just use 2 strands and it caused a lot more wear and tear on the threads. I do see a difference and it seems that the thread seems more fluid going through the fabric.
Hi Kathy! Well, it is true that you have the twist of the threads going in opposite directions when you do the loop start, but I have never really noticed (or thought about) the threads getting worn out more quickly. I will have to pay attention to that the next time I use the loop start. If I happen to notice it, I’ll mention it on a video. Thanks for the tip!
I went both Ben Franklin 5 &10 , there are two Ben Franklin on the Main Land- one in New Hampshire and one in Massachusetts. Lee Wards was begun by Michaels and was known for there Specialty kits. There are none left. Sorry they do not have your floss. It’s a bummer here to find the new floss. The biggest disappointment is trying to order the floss online. Many it is pick up at the store only or ship only. Shipping is so expensive. It is twice the charge of the item. $28.00 dollars for a $17.00 item. It’s imploded.
Here is my BenFranklin Story. I was staying with my granny and i had $1 to spend, and it was right downthe street onthe corner. No i couldn't go in and get more loops for apotholdr, instead i looked down a little basket at these adorable baby ducks (yes it was Easter time). So i went back to my grannies with a duck. Theg had given me a little box to carry it in. We figured my mother was going to kill me. Lol. When my mother came to pick me up, she heard a noise, what is that noise then ibtought out my duck. Did i tell you we lived in town. I named him Skeeter Duck. He waddled all over tge neighborhood, he went to see the sheriff the little ladies next door. In the summer time we put a little pool up for him. He lived to age 3 when he got hit by a car and broke his hip.
