World rally champion and long-time icon of Czech motorsport, Jan Kopecký says that genes are important for success, but it is more important that a person knows how to work hard and follow their dream. Jan Kopecký and I talked about his relationship with his father, racing genes, conscientious work on himself and personal determination to be the best. All this in the new episode the Athletic Longevity podcast.
Jan Kopecky's career is closely linked to his father, who was his teacher, mentor and helper during his years behind the wheel. In the early days of the young rider, his dad was even his rival on the track. As Jan revealed to me in the interview, his initial sporting steps did not lead to behind the wheel at all. Maybe that's why he still enjoys racing even today, when he already feels that his pilot's cup is completely full. He never felt pressure from his dad, the successful Czech rider Josef Kopecky, to follow in his footsteps. He decided on motorsport himself only at the age of 11, when he sat in a go-kart for the first time. But the genes didn't fail and young Jan got an age exception at the age of 15 and started on circuits in the Fiesta Cup series.
About how his career continued to develop, how he got into rallye racing, what helped him overcome the crisis after a nasty crash at a young age, how fate linked him to Škoda Motosport for many years and what made this tandem reach the top finish of the world championship rallye, we talke with Jan Kopecký in the next episode of the Athletic Longevity podcast.
I invite you to enjoy the episode and if you like it, do share it and recommend it to your friends. As a result, the Athletic Longevity community will continue to grow. Don't forget to subscribe to the podcast on your favourite platform and keep track of new episodes.
