“These remarkable pieces invite you to think and feel whatever you want", says Lisiecki, "There’s no ‘right’ response to them, other than the one you’re having.”
For his latest Deutsche Grammophon album, the pianist has chosen to return to the music of Frédéric Chopin with a brand new double album featuring the complete Nocturnes. His new recording captures the spirit of Chopin’s pianism, featuring profoundly personal interpretations of some of the most beautiful and best-loved pieces ever written for solo piano.
Enjoy Jan Lisiecki's performance of Chopin's Nocturne in E Minor, Op. posth. 72/1 live from the historic setting of the stunning Imperial Hall of the Würzburg Residence Palace.

I see what he was doing. The song is somber. Sad and angry due to the death of chopins sister. Therefore I think slower means sad and faster means angry and wanting to get out, from an artistic approach this is a very good interpretation, just didn’t sound very pleasant, atleast compared to the slower interpretation

I don’t personally agree. Although I myself am not fond of this performance, there is no such thing as correct interpretation. Also what is “feelings” intended to mean. Either I hear non musicians or people who have a need to complain refer to it as that way.
@JohnDoe-qr4xu
@JohnDoe-qr4xu 8 месяцев назад
@libertytaxburnaby616 I am a musician and entitled to my opinion just as much as you are. And in my opinion it HAS lost feeling. It means what it means. It has no soul, it's dead, boring and not something I enjoy listening to. You might, I don't.
@libertytaxburnaby616
@libertytaxburnaby616 7 месяцев назад
@@JohnDoe-qr4xu You know, I am all ears for other opinions. I also have my own, but I will respect yours. But just because you don't cherish it, you should not hate it. Music is subjective, and we do not know how Chopin intended it to be, so you have no right to hate on it.

Lisiecki is a very talented pianist, great, really, and I am no expert, but I do know Chopin - and Beethoven, for that matter - were often depressed, perhaps, always so. Beethoven concertos are usually played like battles with pre-determined victorious outcomes. I like hesitancy, a sense of being lost, not certainty. I rarely hear that in the technical perfection now in style.

I am sure Jan is very talented and technical but it seems that he is not understanding Chopin's work deep enough. His rendition for this piece and op 48 no.1 is just... I can't even last to the end of the video.
@libertytaxburnaby616
@libertytaxburnaby616 8 месяцев назад
It is his interpretation and you should not judge it. Actually, there is no correct way to play it, it is up to the artist decision. It is not wrong, but it certainly stands out (not preferably).

Jesus, that's flawlessly fast. I'll stay with Horowitz or Rubinstein. I don't know what exactly happened here and I love other Chopin nocturnes played by Lisiecky, but he killed this one, literally. Three pages of Chopin's masterpiece gone. Such a shame for such a brilliant pianist
