People criticising his playing- do you understand anything about playing live? You mess up, you keep playing! What do you want him to do? Stop and restart the phrase because he pressed a wrong note?
Chopin was only two years older than Jan Lisiecki when he wrote this nocturne. Such a delicate, moving... This is how I imagine young Chopin playing and melancholy Polishness
Outstanding performance as always.
@@Yellowstone300 Yeah. He did really well. People always try to act like they are experts and always try to point out people's mistakes in everything as if they are perfect themselves.
The conclusion is very clear. Those who can actually play the song never experienced the same way as those who cannot play any instruments. They are worried about notes and perfection and criticism about the performance, and they never really enjoy the way us mortals let every note leaks through every crack in our soul. No, musicians never shed a tear with this. They suffer the music.
This is one of my favourite Chopin nocturnes. Despite some of the comments by the trolls in this thread, I think he played it very nicely. The piece was so serence and gentle. I found it to be a very emotional performance. I am playing this at my Christmas recital and draw inspiration from his performance.
i bet theres a HUGE "APPLAUSE" screen overhead or "NO APPLAUSE") I saw this stuff a few times and i should say that its quite usefull. ESPECIALLY when i was on Bach's Toccata and Fugue in D minor peformance people start clapping after Toccata part (like on 3rd minute) just before the Fugue got started. I felt so ashamed that i wanted to disappear out of that concert hall... Whats wrong with u ppls... And yeah. xcuse my english.
EwaT Piano, an encore is by definition unannounced, so there's no way for a concertgoer to prepare by listening to recordings in advance. But common sense should work well enough. If you don't know the piece well, wait for the performer to lower his/her hands, or wait for applause from a substantial part of the audience; there's no prize for being first to clap!
This young man has the making of a real pianist. Those who are so concerned with mistakes rather than interpretation and expression, please don't give up your day jobs!
The way he literally dripped with sweat. This is one of my all time favorite piano pieces and one of all time favorite performances of it. This is amazing
@deanna04. I completely agree, and this from Chopin is one of my two all time favourite pieces of piano music. The other is Liszt Standchen. Listening to them one after the other is bliss.
A million thanks Jan. You made me happy and made my day with this Chopin's Nocturne so beautifully played. I'm 80 years old but your music makes me feel younger and happier each time I hear you. Keep going, young man and may God bless, protect and keep you in the highest range of His love.
Excellent interpretation, feeling nervous is a sign of not being arrogant, but humble and simple. Playing Chopin is one of the most complicated things for pianists, and this young man does it extraordinarily.
I’m a sophisticated place like that u never clap until the musician takes their hands of the instrument, so I don’t they think it was the audience who respected it
Now i am seriously shocked. I heard the C-sharp minor from many including the very classical best but i was not mesmerized like this time. It is like Chopin was sitting next to him and playing it as chopin wanted. BRAVO !!!
That scale towards the end. Measure 48. He played it so well. I have problems playing that scale at the accuracy and speed he does in this piece. I think it is one of the most beautiful Nocturnes Chopin ever composed.
Tamir Burstein That was the piece for me where i really had to get the whole 2 hand thing also, took my a long time to learn, but after that you won't really have a problem.
Ok... Mom is crazy over the left hand... I can never seem to get it right! I have a competition on this in 1 one month, and I can only play up to measure 20 both hands!!!!😭😓😞😨😰😓😩😭😪😫😫
People are acting like such snobs about his interpretation, I mean yeah, we get it, he messed up a bit on that particular section, but he pulled it off incredibly well. It's frustrating that people only choose to point out the negatives in order to make them look smart, but why is nobody pointing out the fact that he has a really beautiful and crisp sound or an amazing control and technique, especially for an 18 year old at the time? You people need to stop being so harsh, unless you can do better than that, and given the circumstances (it was an encore, for God's sake; it's not like this was taken from a CD that he had recorded in a studio with no audience), I really don't think you can. That being said, it might not be the best interpretation of this piece and you cannot compare it to Rubinstein's or Engerer's or Olssohn's or any other "well-known" ones, but that's only because the *context* of every performance is different. Just think about that.
cheekbone prince totally agree ! I’ve tried playing this and it’s not easy. Why do people think everyone’s interpretation should sound the same anyway !
He didn't mess up one bit. If you're talking about the slight mistouching of keys after the time signature change and calling it a mess up, you clearly have no idea how to listen to classical piano recordings.
I remember playing live once and I hit a blank. I was very young at the time. I had to go back the same night and play a different piece. The second piece was flawless. This is how we learn. There is no such thing as perfection. So, strive for greatness- perfection is God’s business - unknown
Saw him live at Konzerthaus Dortmund, Germany. Believe me, he is already world class at his young age. And this piece, well known from "The Pianist", is nothing more than perfectly interpreted. ♥
What a beautiful interpretation! Very inspiring to see a pianist go a little beyond the script to add in his own nuances of reflection upon this masterpiece.
how far did you get? it took me around 10 months to play it fluently. but i still struggle with the big run at the end. and it's so hard to hit the right dynamics!
Sublime, Inspirng, Brilliant, The piano blends at the touch of his hands so perfect in body and soul my deepest admiration. no doubt this is music from heaven thanks a million for posting this master piece
Chopin... Even though I am Polish, I've somehow dropped into his music now... When I'm 35 yo. Perhaps I had to be mature enough to get it ... I had to listen his music for about 6 months to be able how to understand this kind of sounds. This man created such a masterpiece "Nocturne" should be always saved for the generations. I'm proud to be Polish. Chopin and his music will be always a good reason to get as much as we can from our lives bcoz it makes you think about ourselfes in first place. Just enjoy.
I came to this video hoping that my original feelings about this piece will be restored, and it has :) I've been playing this piece for way too long, till the point where i stopped feeling as emotionally involved as i did when i first started playing this piece, and watching Jan's interpretation of this beautiful nocturne has made me fall in love with it once more.
I am in tears. Many years of Mercy for this wonderful young artist! I mean just listen, how he is beautifully breathing the music. Greetings from Finland!
The mistake was very trivial. This was a beautiful performance, and Jan Lisiecki has been one of my favourite pianists for some time now. His recordings of the piano concertos of Mozart and Beethoven are wonderful.
If you are half as beautiful inside as your interpretation of this wonderful piece, you are truly a blessing to the world. Exquisitely Lovely! Thank you
His touch and interpretation are so beautiful. This is one of, if not my absolute favorite piece for piano, and now I have found my favorite performance.
i think this is one of the finest renditions of this piece that ive heard. Not perfect, but incredibly soft and pleasant to listen to. Lots of emotion. Well done from Jan Lisiecki
Beautiful, simply beautiful. So thankful to my 7th grade choir teacher who introduced me to Chopin when she did . Out of the 21 pieces this is by far my favorite one
In this piece, each note is a separate emotion and a separate image. You can listen for hours and still discover something new. One of the most beautiful pieces of music in the world.
Really moving. He never looks at the piano, he doesn't need it. His body is only the perpetrator. It all comes from his soul. And the mistake doesn't matter.
What counts is the music and Chopin dedicated this work to his older sister, Ludwika Chopin. And he said " To my sister Ludwika as an exercise before beginning te study of my second concerto". The melody of this music is so beautiful that I never get tired of listening to it. This piece was famously played by holocaust survivor Natalia Karp, and because of the way she played it, her life was spared. I am Learning this piece of music and I only am an amateur. But I try as I can.
Simplemente perfecto!!!
This is witnessing music being channeled in its purest form via the conduit of a musician. The fact his eyes are closed the whole way through makes it so visceral. So stunning
Tim Fouraker Here you are: some " educated" persons have pathological hatred towards classical music; some of them don't like this particular performer. And there's a numerous group of trolls who dislike everything they watch:).
Not sure about the trolls, as I doubt such people would even be watching something like this, so it must be down to a proportionally large number of music enthusiasts who do not like this particular pianist, for whatever reason that may be.
I've been listening to classical/ romantic music for just over a year and a half now when I started piano. Playing. Chopin nocturnes is one of things that makes me most happy in life
What an absolutely divine rendition of this piece, totally enthralled me! Timing, dynamics faultless. Those trills are so hard to perfect, for absolutely every pianist I ever heard. He got them all and absolutely nailed some of them! And the long fast run that turns the piece from intermediate difficulty to really very hard - also nailed - but with perfect touch and musicality.
ManonLc14 ikr? But it’s not that difficult as it’s just an e major scale. Still, has to be played in the speed of just 2 beats which is pretty difficult
@@ayhamshaheed7740 not necessarily, the polyrhythms at the end are the hardest part for this piece. and playing live in front of hundreds of people is pretty nerve racking.
@@c4mi223 yep thats what i was referring to. It's quite easy except the 2nd one of the four runs, which i rly struggle with getting fast enough. However, if you just practice getting the e major scale fast enough youve already done 80% of the work.
